Season’s Greetings! It’s hard to believe that we are in the last days leading up to the Christmas holidays. WMCI has been an extremely
busy place over the last few months! We have had our Annual Awards Night, participation in various sports, field trips
and environmental studies, the weekly nutrition program, fundraising for Grad, cancer research, and Food Hampers,
and practicing for the upcoming Band and Choir concert, not to mention prepping for the traditional WMCI Christmas
Dinner and Morton Cup!!
Thank you to WMCI Staff and to community volunteers who come out to cheer on our teams, encourage academic
achievements, drive students to meetings and practices, and give unselfishly of their time to help our WMCI students
have the best experiences possible. During this holiday season, take time to enjoy your friends and family and take time
for yourself. I wish each and every WMCI Warrior and their families a blessed Christmas season and all the best in

GRAD TEA & BAKE SALE
On Friday, Nov. 25 the Grad Tea and Bake Sale was held in conjunction with Gladstone's Moonlight
Madness. The gym was decorated in traditional festive colors of red, white and green with the addition
this year of a “memory tree” decorated with photo memories of the graduating class from their Kindergarten to
Grade 12 school years. It was a nice way for the students and community members alike to walk down memory
lane. The community was once again very supportive of this event. A big thank-you to all those who attended the
tea and purchased baking and raffle tickets as well as those who baked for and helped with the set up and clean-
up. As well, thank you to all the businesses and individuals who donated to the raffle table. A total of $1500.00
was raised due to everyone's generosity. Proceeds will help offset costs for this years graduation.
From WMCI’s Graduating Class of 2017, the Grad Committee members and Staff—THANK YOU!!

The MANITOBA THEATER FOR YOUNG PEOPLE presented the play Routes at WMCI on Nov. 22nd.
Author Collin Doyle shares the story behind the story...
“It’ll never change.” I think that’s a fear for a lot of teenagers. In the play, it’s Tom’s fear. When I was fifteen it was my fear.
Since the only experience I can reference when it comes to being a teenager is my own, a lot of my life is in this play.
Being fifteen was hard. Like Tom, I was overweight, friendless, and I had problems at home. At school, I found ways to stay
invisible. I think fifteen is the age when you’re still a child but you’re starting to view the world as an adult. It was when I be-
gan to see my parents not as grown-ups who always knew what was best, but as adults with their own problems, fears, and
mistakes. I began to see how complicated life was for my family: my father was struggling with his drinking; my mother was
struggling with the decision to end her marriage; my brother, sister, and I were struggling with all the fears, problems, and
anger that came from being children of an alcoholic. At fifteen, I was convinced that it would never change.
When I started to write Routes, I struggled with trying to provide a solution for change. I wanted to show teenagers how
they could stop bullying. But it’s too complicated; there isn’t a simple answer. So instead, I tried to explore the lives of the
characters and show the routes that lead them to being victims of bullying, witnesses to bullying, or instigators of bullying. In
the play, Tom’s hope is that it will change. In my life change happened because the members of my family, in their individual
ways, decided our lives could no longer go on as they had been. My mother, with the support of her children, left my father.
My father, with the support of the family, sobered up. And because of those changes, I stopped trying to be invisible. None
of this was simple or easy. Change happened because we, as a family, did it together. My father has now been sober for al-
most 25 years. My parents have reconciled. My family is close. I still don’t have an all-
encompassing solution to stop bullying but I do know that if you’re hoping for change, you
need to reach out and ask for help—a family member, a friend, a teacher, someone.

JUNIOR VARSITY GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL The WMCI Warrior Junior Varsity Volleyball team has wrapped up for another season. Nine girls took to the court
for practice in early September in preparation for league games against Carberry, Erickson, MacGregor, Minnedosa,
Neepawa and Rivers. The Warriors finished the regular season with 4 wins and 2 losses and advanced to the first playoff round
against Rivers. WMCI defeated the Rams 3-0 and extended their season to the final playoffs on November 14th. The Warriors
were up against the 2nd place Erickson Eagles and fell 2-0, wrapping up their season. A highlight of the season was the Mac-
Gregor Invitational where the Warriors won an emotional B Side Championship.
A special thank you goes out to Teri Duclos for helping with coaching the Junior Girls team this year. Her assistance and
knowledge, passion and enthusiasm were very much appreciated by myself and the girls.
Finally, a sincere thanks to the graduating players. Christyn Blondeau, Jennica Ejercito, Brenna Roberge, and Amber Starr-Elk
will move on to Senior Girls Volleyball next year. Thank you for your commitment to this great game!! To the rest of the play-
ers…..enjoy your next year of Junior Warrior VB!

STUDENT COUNCIL
In November, Student Council’s Cancer Awareness Committee took part in Movember, with nine boys growing their facial hair and four girls growing their leg hair. The winners have yet to be announced and will receive bragging rights for the rest of the year! The required five dollars paid by each of the participants will be donated to a local cancer charity along with the money raised from the Hat Day at the end of the month.
Christmas is coming, and with that, all the fun shenanigans and festive activities hosted by the Student Council! We will be selling Candycane-o-grams at noon during the month of December; these are passed out at the Christmas dinner, so be sure to buy some for your friends! The Student Council Christmas Spirit Committee is planning many Christmas themed dress days and activities in the coming weeks … look for these to be posted on the large calendar in the front foyer, as well as listed in daily announcements.
WMCI Student Council would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
