WJEC offers a suite of QCF (Qualifications and Credit Framework) language

qualifications. The qualifications formally accredit learners for demonstrating

their competency in communicating in another language.

They are designed to recognise the achievements of young learners and

provide a platform for learners to pursue a modern foreign language in

secondary education and beyond.

The qualifications which are currently available are:

• French

• German

• Italian

• Japanese

• Mandarin

• Spanish

These qualifications are ideal for use in a range of settings including:

• Primary school learners

• Lunchtime or afterschool language clubs

• KS3 pupils who are starting to learn a second foreign language

• College students

• Adult learners in a work context

• Lifelong learning courses

� Formal accreditation which acknowledges the achievement of the learner

� Each qualification requires 10 hours to deliver and complete (20 hours for

written non-roman scripts)

QCF IN MODERN LANGUAGES.

QUALIFICATION CONTENT AND STRUCTURE.

The qualification is available at:

• Entry Level (3)

• Level 1

• Level 2

Each qualification consists of individual units and these units cover 5 key themes:

• Communicating Personal Information

• Social Activities

• Organising and Planning

• Giving and Receiving Information and Instructions

• Education and Employment

The units are available as spoken communication (understanding and speaking) at

all levels and written communication (reading and writing) at Levels 1 & 2.

The units are internally assessed and externally moderated. Candidates’ evidence

can be entered in the January or June series of moderation each year.

Each qualification requires 10 hours to deliver and complete (20 hours for written
