Jubilee Year of Mercy November 13, 2016

As this Jubilee Year of Mercy comes to an end, Jesus’ first disciples ask what every age seems to wonder about the end of the world: “Teacher, when will this happen? What sign will there be?” (Luke 21:7). But instead of what we’d like to know, Jesus tells us what we need to know. Don’t be terrified by natural disasters, human violence, personal sufferings. Because God’s mercy abounds, all is grace. “It will lead to your giving testimony” (21:13). So Malachi promises “the sun of justice with its healing rays” (Malachi 3:20a); and Jesus describes how we should welcome the end: “Stand erect and raise your heads, because your redemption is at hand” (Gospel Acclamation, Luke 21:28). Rather than worrying about ourselves and the future’s perils, both Jesus’ gospel and Pope Francis’ Jubilee Year of Mercy bid us go forth to spend our lives proclaim-ing God’s promise of boundless mercy, but also translating God’s mercy into living deeds of unfailing compassion and enduring comfort. —Peter Scagnelli, Copyright © J. Do I give back to God each week at least what I spend on entertainment for myself, such as movies, hobbies and going out for dinner? I think this is something we Catholic’s should seriously reflect on. On average most folks tip 15-20 percent on a restaurant tab. Doesn’t God and His Church deserve our support more than a tip? With this thought in mind is 5% of our earnings really too much to give back to God? 5% basically equals to 2 hours out of a 40-hour weekly wage. Heck, even on a daily basis we are constantly paying 9.5% on sales tax of which most goes towards the State coffers. I honestly believe 5% of our personal weekly wage is a reasonable weekly “sacrifice” when it comes to offering God our gratitude, supporting and maintaining our house of worship (“God’s House”) and in helping us better serve our parishioners and those seeking God’s help through our church. Before I entered the seminary in 2003, as a parishioner I used to financially support my parish church, St. Clement in Hayward with an average of $50.00 per week. And now as a priest, I earn less money than before but I pres-ently support St. Joseph the Worker with $50.00 per week from my own monthly priest wage. Won’t you please join me? Our weekly goal in order to properly operate and to continue improving our parish is $8,875 per week – Your support is very important and necessary for us to continue moving forward.

“When you give, give generously and not with a stingy heart; for that, the LORD, your God, will bless you in all

your works and undertakings.” Deuteronomy 15:10 Last Sunday on November 6th, we received approxi-mately 33.5 % of our weekly goal: 8:00am Mass: $1147.30 9:30am Mass: $1183.13 11:00am Spanish Mass: $654.86 --------------------------------- Total: $2,985.29 Your spiritual and financial support makes a huge difference. Thank you. Pax Christi, Fr. Kenneth Nobrega

Deuteronomio 15:10

El domingo pasado el 6 de noviembre, recibimos aproximadamente el 33.5% de nuestro objetivo semanal: 8:00am misa: $1147.30 dólares 9:30am misa: $1183.13 dólares 11:00am misa en Español: $654.86 dólares --------------------------------- Total: $2,985.29 dólares Su apoyo financieroy espiritual y hacen una diferencia enorme. Gracias. Pax Christi, P. Kenneth Nobrega

Prayer of Pope Francis for the

Jubilee

Oración de Papa

Francisco

Lord Jesus Christ, you have taught us to be merciful like the heavenly Father, and have told us that whoever sees you sees Him. Show us your face and we will be saved. Your loving gaze freed Zacchaeus and Matthew from being enslaved by money; the adulteress and Magdalene from seeking happi-ness only in created things; made Peter weep after his betrayal, and assured Paradise to the repentant thief. Let us hear, as if addressed to each one of us, the words that you spoke to the Samaritan woman: “If you knew the gift of God!” You are the visible face of the invisible Father, of the God who manifests his power above all by forgiveness and mercy: let the Church be your visible face in the world, its Lord risen and glorified. You willed that your ministers would also be clothed in weakness in order that they may feel compassion for those in ignorance and error: let everyone who approaches them feel sought af-ter, loved, and forgiven by God. Send your Spirit and consecrate every one of us with its anointing, so that the Jubilee of Mercy may be a year of grace from the Lord, and your Church, with renewed enthusiasm, may bring good news to the poor, proclaim liberty to captives and the oppressed, and restore sight to the blind. We ask this of you, Lord Jesus, through the inter-cession of Mary, Mother of Mercy; you who live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit for ever and ever. Amen.
