PRESIDENT’S REPORT
Meeting Report June4th 2018
I really enjoyed presenting the tale of my travels to Morocco with my aunt Helen. Lots of highlights (and some low lights too) came back to me as I skimmed through my photos and notes. My take home message is that we are such a lucky country and community. This is why I feel we can use the vehicle of Rotary to benefit those in countries not so lucky and those less lucky in our community
• Two applicants have put their names forward from PEGS, (a girl and a boy) to attend the National Youth Science Forum at the end of the year. I obtained their applications last Monday and Mark, Vanda and I will interview them and their parents in the next week or two. • A group of about 15 Days for Girls contributors went to Jenny Foster’s (President of RC Essendon) farm for fun and frivolity last weekend. We celebrated to recognize all the work that has been done by them for the hygiene kits being prepared for East Timor and an early start to grandma Win’s 101th birthday.
• The Pitch for Funding evening will need some volunteers on Wednesday 13th June at Club Italia in Furlong road Sunshine. Please put it into your diaries Gerard will coordinate.
• The upcoming Milleara mall BBQ was held on Sunday 27th May and we started about 9 am. We had a separate table with promotional material to educate passers-by about our club and it all went very well finishing about 3.30 with all snags sold.
• Brimbank Central is having a dinner to recognize the many years of service they have supplied to the community. We will have a number attending on the 8th of June. Come if you can. See the email Chris has circulated earlier.
• A group of about 15 intrepid Rotarians and their offspring attended DIK on Saturday for a general clean-up of much of the medical material that were donated by many hospitals who were updating their equipment. 3 medical students from Monash medical school came and went off with boxes of items to take on their work/study tour to Tonga.
• The District 9800 changeover was held yesterday, Sunday the 3rd of June at the Brighton International events centre. Bronwyn Stephens is our new District Governor and is passionate about the World of Difference project in Cambodia. The upcoming winter in July dinner in Strathmore will work with her to help the Cambodian kids in their new school.
• The Rotary Action group for MS Awareness had its Global lunch last Sunday and Alex and I attended a well organised event at a winery in New Gisborne. About $4,000 was raised and will go to support MS research.
District Changeover was held in Brighton on Sunday 3rd June. 2018-19 DG Bronwyn Stephens received the chains of office from outgoing DG, Peter Frueh.
