“Karen Hadley, will
be celebrating her
25th anniversary of
member service in
early November!
Karen has touched
the lives of hundreds and
hundreds of
members during her
tenure here.”
Club News
From the General Manager
For the past two months or more, Mary Anne MacArthur, Brittany Bartlett and I have
been working closely with MembersFirst, our website provider, on a complete
overhaul of our website. This labor of love has involved countless hours spent re-
writing existing content, gathering a multitude of new content including photographs
and bios, and providing input and signing off on the look and design of the new site.
In the first half of October on a day yet to be determined, you will all get to see the
results of this effort. There will be a brief period of less than a week where our site
will be temporarily down as MembersFirst works on loading the new site. We are
excited about this and are confident that you will see a significant improvement over
our now dated site. I’m sure that in the first few weeks we will continue to refine
content as we have a chance to review the “live” product. As just a couple of examples, additions over what
we currently have include a full pictorial golf course tour, which in the coming weeks will include a drone
flyover of every hole, and an expanded weddings and events page on the public side.
Our very own icon of hospitality, Karen Hadley, will be celebrating her 25th anniversary of member service in
early November! Karen is both a fixture and a living legend at the Club. Karen has touched the lives of
hundreds and hundreds of members during her tenure here. She constantly amazes me with her positive
outlook and the way she interacts with all of you, not so much as employers and owners of this business, but
almost as family! I’m sure that there are scores of you who consider Karen family. When you see Karen,
please take a moment to congratulate this very special woman on her huge milestone.
Until next month, we will see you around the Club,
Bill Robinson

From the Director of Fitness
Since fall has decided to arrive overnight, we have been
seeing a lot more members enjoying the fitness center. It is
great to see members utilizing our facility. Classes are
getting busier, as well as our floor space, but we still have
plenty of room in classes for those who are still interested
in joining us.
We all hate when the piece of equipment we like to use breaks.
Unfortunately, it is common that the Fitness Staff will go a few days
without knowing a piece of equipment isn’t working correctly, unless we
use it ourselves because sometimes we are not here when the piece
breaks. In an effort to ensure prompt repair, I have left a bundle of paper in
the cardio area in order for members to make note of any issue they may
encounter during times when we are unstaffed. Just slip the note under my
office door and we’ll work on repair as soon as possible.
The fitness staff has been working hard to improve the current
programming we offer. Whether we are personal training, teaching classes
or researching new training exercises and philosophies, we strive to deliver
the best programming we possibly can. With this in mind, we will be adding
these classes to the fall schedule:
Ski Conditioning
Evening Spin
Saturday Strength and Spin
Exercising Etiquette
Often, we are rushed to get a work out in. Other times we have more
time to think about what we want to do, as well as reflect on the day
between sets. Whether you are a “Go-Getter” or a “Maximize-My-
Recovery” type of exerciser, please do your best to allow others to work
in. Also, you shouldn’t hesitate if someone is sitting on a piece that you
intend to use. A friendly “do you mind if I work in” is a great gesture so we
can all complete our exercise routines.
As always, thanks for making this a friendly and fun place to work out.
Damian

Foundation Brewing Company
BURNSIDE BROWN ALE
5.1% ABV
Burnside is a traditional brown ale, with
roasted notes of coffee, burnt sugar, and
chocolate. Deeply roasted flavors are
tempered with malty sweetness to provide a
smooth yet dry finish, partly due to the Maine-
grown oats used in the recipe. Burnside pairs
perfectly with grilled, roasted, smoky and
caramelized flavors, but it is also great on its
own as an easy-drinking pint.
Moat Mountain Brewing Company
OPA’S OKTOBERFEST 5.2% ABV
A German-style lager of course! Amber in
color, the nose has mild sweetness, toasted
bread, dried grass and faint spices. Taste is
smooth and slightly crisp with medium body
and endearing toasted malt. Hints of biscuit
and nuts, herbal hop and spice lead into
balanced bitterness and a clean, semi-dry
finish. Prost!

Golf
From the Director of Golf
As we move into fall, it is especially
important to repair all ball marks and
replace all divots so that the greens and
fairways have the ability to recover before
the growing season is over.
Cool Weather Golf
Here are a few tips to make your Fall golf
more enjoyable:
Dress in layers: Three or more layers can work wonders if
they permit a free flowing swing. Don't worry, you can always
peel off the outers if the afternoon temperature creeps up to a
balmy forty-something degrees.
Acclimate: Take 20-30 minutes for a cold weather pre-game
warm up on the practice range. Use the time as you normally
would for stretching, hitting balls and swing practice, but most
importantly get used to being outside. Use the extra time to fine
tune your outerwear and headgear before you step up to the
first tee.
Let's get real. You can suit up with the best cold weather gear
money can buy and you'll still be using an abbreviated swing.
Don't expect record breaking distances off the tee or massively
long iron play. Add one or two clubs to your normal shot
distances
Play a softer golf ball: A hard rock ball like a Top Flite XL will
feel like a steel ball bearing on a cold day, so opt for a softer
option, like the Srixon Q Star or Soft Feel.
Keep your hands warm! This is the single most important tip
for cold weather golf! Your hands are your only link to the
club, and you need feel to play good golf. If your hands are
frozen, you lose all your feel and your game will suffer,
especially around the greens. Get yourself a nice pair of mittens
and/or some hand warmers for your pockets. Wear the mitts
whenever you aren’t hitting a shot, and take them off prior to
hitting.
Thank you,
Doug Van Wickler, PGA

A frost delay of, for example, one
