PROGRAMME OVERVIEW

Our Advanced Professional Programme is delivered in four modules over a 12 month period. Between training modules you participate in peer learning and coaching practice groups. The full programme takes about 300 hours to complete. A breakdown of hours can be found on page 9.
Programme aims & objectives are to:
- introduce and build on core theory attitudes and competencies of coaching and mentoring
- develop a deeper understanding of the art and practice of coaching
- provide participants with opportunities to develop skills, knowledge and confidence in
coaching & mentoring to a high standard and cultivate their unique coaching style
- develop ability to use a range of techniques and approaches with awareness and flexibility
- to encourage effective application of these approaches and techniques in different contexts
- introduce reflective practice, reflexivity and champion ‘ethical’ practice in coaching
Module 1 introduces basic theory, models, practice and purposes of coaching. The learning
can be applied immediately within your current field for exceptional results both personally
and professionally. This first module Foundations: Core Coaching & Mentoring Skills may be
taken as a five day stand alone course and in total covers 55 hours of training and study
including coaching practice, independent reading and written work.
In Modules 2, 3 and 4 you develop a deep understanding of the art and practice of
coaching. During these Advanced Programme in Coaching & Mentoring modules you will
gain the competencies and perspectives you need to become a professional coach and
refine your unique, signature coaching style. This course is suitable for those who intend to
become a qualified coach, coaches with basic training who wish to extend their knowledge
and skills and other professionals who wish to integrate a high level of coaching expertise
within a current role.

COURSE CONTENT

Module 1- Foundations in Core Coaching & Mentoring Skills Module 1 aims to introduce basic competencies, models and theory of coaching & mentoring,
apply these to real life situations at work and develop awareness of ethical practice.
By the end of this course you will be able to:
• Clarify the responsibilities, attitudes and behaviours of an effective coach/ mentor
• Build rapport and maintain a strong coaching or mentoring partnership
• Create clear contracts that support ethical practice
• Clarify and set goals and manage the coaching process
• Apply tools, techniques and practical skills: e.g. listening, questioning and feedback
• Support clients to take action, holding them accountable to agreements
• Use a range of models and frameworks and work on a range of issues
• Work with clients to explore values and deepen motivation
• Evaluate and analyse own effectiveness reflective practice, self assessment, peer, staff
and client feedback
• Apply learning to own professional context and coach in the workplace

Module 2 – Values and Vocation In Module 2 you will explore how to help clients create meaningful change, address
issues of balance, meaning and fulfillment and develop the self-awareness to challenge
the gaps between the values we say we hold dear and the often unconscious patterns
of behaviour we actually enact –a key skill for supporting leadership with integrity.
Module 3 – The Challenge of Change
This module aims to equip you to work effectively with change and understand and develop
strategies to address blocks to change. Many people choose coaching at a time of transition
it is vitally important for coaches to have a thorough grounding in challenges of working in
this area.

Module 4 – Wider Networks
Module 4 focuses on wider relationships, interdependence and stakeholder connectivity,
provides tools for network mapping and explores coaching for wellbeing in the workplace as
well as deepening understanding of ethical practice in coaching.
On completing all four modules you will meet Foundations objectives plus be able to:
• Consistently and confidently apply the key principles of effective coaching & mentoring at
a range of management & leadership levels
• Identify opportunities for developing leaders through coaching
• Understand the conditions, responsibilities, attitudes and behaviours that create effective
and ethical coaching and mentoring partnerships
• Manage professional boundaries: contractual, emotional and organisational
• Establish effective and trusting professional partnerships through an appropriate balance

• Establish and modify client goals as necessary, review outcomes, evaluate progress and
sustain focus

How will my work be assessed?
At Wise Goose assessment has been designed to be congruent with the coaching process and our
participative philosophy of learning. In coaching, responsibility for learning lies with the client who is
held accountable for carrying out agreed tasks between sessions. Similarly, you are expected to take
responsibility for your work between modules.
Your portfolio will be self and peer assessed in your learning group, who along with staff will act as
examiner for the course. You will present your portfolio during the last weekend. Clear instructions to
help you complete required work are provided and staff will be on hand to give support you and
answer your questions. Training staff and validators monitor portfolio standards and the rigour of the
assessment process.

WORKING IN A PEER LEARNING GROUP
The learning group is a vital component of the programme. You will be working in a group of six to
eight people. The group provides a collaborative environment for peer learning and models coaching
by providing support and challenge through relationships based on trust, respect and empathy. It is a
setting to practice listening and feedback skills. This is both challenging and enriching giving you the
opportunity to develop outstanding feedback and assessment skills which are essential for coaching.
The group holds you accountable for progress and you will be expected to:
• Discuss and agree individual learning goals
• Assess each other’s work
• Explore the process of working together as well as content covered

Both our Foundations and Advanced courses are endorsed meeting ILM quality

ILM are the European market leader in leadership and management qualifications and

You can also obtain an Association for Coaching (AC) ‘Accredited Advanced Diploma in
Coach Training’ (AADCT) with Wise Goose. This level of accreditation shows that you
have received an advanced training that develops an expert knowledge and deep
understanding of the art and practice of coaching. Coach training may be accredited at
one of four different levels depending on the length and content of the course, ranging from initial
training (our ILM recognised Foundations course) to advanced programmes for coaches looking to
develop coaching mastery. We are proud to be delivering a programme that has been recognised as
providing training at the highest level.
The Association for Coaching is a leading independent, and not-for-profit professional body dedicated to
promoting best practice and raising coaching standards worldwide. The AC Advanced Diploma is
recognized globally, so will be relevant to those who work beyond the UK and Europe. An additional
benefit for our students is that training providers with AC Accredited Coach Training Courses qualify to
access AC Student Affiliate Membership a high value 12-month reduced-fee.

Our training venue is the Barefoot Barn Chagford 35 minutes from the M5 and 45 minutes from Exeter Airport with it’s low cost flights to London City Airport, Belfast, Manchester, Newcastle and beyond.
Chagford www.visitchagford.com is a pretty and vibrant town set in an area of outstanding beauty, on the edge of Dartmoor National Park. The venue has stunning views and offers opportunities for practicing outdoor walking coaching; drinks and refreshments are provided and there are fabulous cafes a 5 minute walk away where you can enjoy a delicious lunch. There is plenty of free car parking at the venue. We can also suggest places to stay at reasonable rates, contact us for more information.

WHO SHOULD APPLY?

BREAKDOWN OF HOURS The complete Advanced Professional Programme in Coaching & Mentoring is covered in
four modules usually taken over a 12 month period. This comprises of a total of 18 days
(excluding Taster Day) which gives you 126 contact hours with the Wise Goose staff team.
It takes about 350 hours to complete through a comprehensive innovative mix of
teaching, discussion, practice, personal study and reflection.
This includes undertaking in your own time, outside of the taught input days, participating in
a peer learning group, this along with required reading and written work contribute
approximately 175 hours independent study and reflection time, plus 60 hours independent
coaching practice between modules. We also require you undertake 2 hours supervision
with an allocated coaching supervisor (not for Foundations) this is included in the course fee.

If you opt to take the Foundations in Core Coaching Skills & Mentoring Skills as a standalone
course you will need to allow about 55 hours to complete; 35 contact hours (not including
Taster Day) plus an additional 20 hours independent study & practice.

COURSE FEES

The ‘early bird’ fee for the full programme (Modules 1, 2, 3 and 4) is £2,990; a limited number of
early bird places are allocated on a first come first served basis. Once these places have been
taken the full price of £3350 will be payable.
Module 1, the Foundations in Core Coaching & Mentoring Skills maybe taken as a standalone
course at an ‘early bird’ rate of £890.00. We also run an instalment scheme (not available for early bird discount) as shown in the table below:

VAT will not be added to these fees.
Fees include course materials, all classroom tuition, 12 months Association for Coaching Student
Affiliate Membership, 2 x one-one supervision sessions (only on full 1 year professional
programme) and assessment. ILM enrolment fee (currently £69) is extra. Please note that if you
enrol for the Foundations and at a later date decide to continue on to the one year professional
programme an additional £69 ILM enrolment fee for the Advanced Programme will be payable
as ILM class it as a separate course. If you enrol for the one year course from the beginning only
a single payment of £69 will be necessary.
A deposit of £100 will secure your place. Fees must be paid at least 6 weeks before the start of
the programme or if paying in instalments all payments must be made by the due dates. Full
details will be sent with offer letters.
Once registered, you become responsible for payments on the due dates. If your place is
sponsored by your employer invoices can be sent directly to their offices. For more information
