Message from the PresidentDear WNA APN Forum members, advanced practice nurse colleagues,

students and friends,

Welcome to the 25th Annual Pharmacology & Clinical Update sponsored by

the Wisconsin Nurses Association Advanced Practice Nurse Forum!

This year marks the historic anniversary of the first annual educational

conference of the WNA Nurse Practitioner Council held in 1986 at the

Stevens Point Sentry World Sports Center. That first conference (with

approximately 30 attendees) was organized by a small group of APNs who

were committed to the idea of working together to provide high quality

continuing education and pharmacology credits in Wisconsin. This began

the long tradition we are celebrating this year.

The annual conference brings content experts from all areas of clinical

practice for several days of intense learning opportunities. Conference

participants are able to reconnect with classmates, educators, and mentors

and network with professional colleagues old and new. The conference

provides valuable updates in state and national practice, legislative and

policy issues. The goal of the planning committee each year is to challenge

and inspire you, refresh and support you, and encourage you to go back to

your practice settings with some new ideas to better care for yourself, your

patients and their families.

The key to the success of the Annual Pharmacology and Clinical Update is

the bond we share through the Wisconsin Nurses Association. For 101 years

WNA has been the professional voice for registered nurses in Wisconsin.

It was WNA members who formed a special interest group called the NP

Council (the precursor to the APN Forum) in 1976. It was WNA that provided

the framework and support for early efforts to organize and work together

on common goals, moving our profession forward. And it’s been our

membership in WNA which allows us to work with our colleagues to do more

together than we could ever do alone.

The Annual Pharmacology and Clinical Update is an example of the

synergistic effort of WNA members and staff, becoming the largest annual

nursing conference in the state, attracting almost 600 registrants and 60

exhibitors. Through 12 professional skills workshops, and 35 course offerings

in five clinical tracks- Pediatrics, Women’s Health, Adult Health- Acute Care,

Adult Health-Primary Care, and Psychiatry—participants can earn up to

13.75 contact hours.

I’m excited to welcome you to the Monona Terrace and Convention Center

for our historic 25th Annual Pharmacology and Clinical Update!
