______________________________________________________ Summary: This report lists more than 110 popular and technical articles and books that deal with various aspects of Wisconsin’s native amphibians and reptiles. It updates previous Wisconsin-specific listings and is intended to be inclusive for the period January 2011 through December 2015. An addendum includes works published prior to 1993 that were missed in previous compilations. Some entrees refer to physiological, morphological, taxonomic, toxicological, or other studies in which specimens collected in Wisconsin were used. All contribute to our understanding of the state’s biological diversity. Indices cross-reference the bibliographic entries by taxonomy, geography, and general subject. Parasite species are listed in the subject index. Contents 1. Introduction 1 2. Methods and Organization of the Bibliography 1 3. Acknowledgments 1 4. Without keeping up with the literature, I can’t know what other people are doing or conceptualize my work. In addition, through reading the literature, I can find potential solutions to the barriers I am facing in my own research.

- L. Kmaerlin

Our job is to push the frontier of what is already known, so we need to be aware of where this frontier is. However, trying to stay up to date with the literature is tremendously difficult… The number of journals and venues is very large, and it continues to grow.

- B. Masia

Our function as scientists is to push the envelope and create new knowledge and understanding, so we always need to be as up to date as we can be in our areas.

- J.C. Austin

Wisconsin Herpetology, 2011-2015

1. Introduction The bibliography presented herein supplements previous Wisconsin-specific listings1. It includes over 110 popular and technical publications that deal with all aspects of Wisconsin’s native amphibians and reptiles. Many of the papers present natural history observations or the results of ecological investigations. Some entrees refer to parasitological, physiological, taxonomic, toxicological, or other studies in which specimens from Wisconsin were used. The bibliography is intended to be inclusive for the period January 2011 through December 2015. In addition, a smaller number of titles published prior to 1993 and missed in the original compilations are included in an addendum. This listing can aid local managers and researchers in understanding what species occur in our state, as well as their phylogenetic relationships, geographic distributions, and life history and ecological traits, aspects important to modern conservation practice. 2. Methods and Organization of the Bibliography I followed the methods described by Watermolen (2013) to compile and organize the bibliography. As with previous listings, some entries include brief annotations to aid users, particularly when titles are obscure or the Wisconsin connection is not immediately clear. Indices cross-reference the entries by species, geography, and subject. Every attempt was made to ensure the accuracy of the entries; users, however, will want to check citations against actual references to avoid perpetuating any errors that may have crept into this listing. Additions and corrections can be sent to me at the address listed on the title page or via email to [email protected]. Such contributions will be acknowledged. 3. Acknowledgments This bibliography results from the scientific, conservation, and educational contributions of numerous scientists, resource managers, naturalists, and amateur enthusiasts who have taken the time to document and publish their observations, survey results, and research findings. Science wouldn’t advance if it were not for efforts like theirs. Andrew Badje and Rori Paloski, Bureau of Natural Heritage Conservation, provided various papers and reports over the past several years. I also appreciate receiving additional citations and suggestions from Gary S. Casper, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Field Station, and Joshua M. Kapfer, University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Their contributions included references that may have otherwise been overlooked. I appreciate their willingness to share.
