SOARING HIGH ON THE WINGS OF SUCCESS
WIRI WHISPERER WEEK 4 TERM 1 2020
Dear Parents, Carers and Community,
As we get stuck into week 4 we are full steam ahead
with teaching and learning at Wiripaang Public
School. Here at Wiri we encourage you to be actively
engaged in your child’s/children’s education and we
are only a meeting, phone call or email away to
answer any questions you may have to support our
students learning and wellbeing. Together we are
improving and developing new skills and knowledge
on our learning journey for all. Together we can and
will make a positive difference for all of our students
at Wiripaang PS.

School leadership opportunities
We held our assembly last Friday, that included our
leadership induction of our elected school leaders. It
was a wonderful moment to see such great
community support for our students as they accept
the great responsibility of being a leader to their
peers and representing our school. Children showed
great pride in accepting their badges and reading
their oath and we look forward to them evolving and
enhancing their leadership skills in various settings
throughout the school year.
Zone Swimming Carnival
The East Lake Macquarie Swimming Carnival will be
held this Thursday and Friday at Charlestown pool.
We congratulate our students’ representatives that
qualified and wish them luck as they represent
themselves and our school.
‘Meet and Greet’ your teacher
On Monday 24th February we will be holding a
teachers ‘meet and greet’ from 2.30-3.30pm. You
are invited to come and visit your child’s classroom,
have a look at the work that have been completing
and meet their teacher.
Pets not to be onsite at school
Just a reminder that pets are not to be onsite at our
school due to Health and Safety regulations. We
appreciate your understanding and cooperation with
this.
High School students picking up siblings
Please notify us if your child at high school will be
picking up their sibling on certain days of the week
so that we can ensure a smooth pick up and safety
for all. The high school students must wait in the
permitted area at the front of the school under
supervision and not disturb other members of our
school community whilst waiting for our students to
complete their lessons. Students not picking up
siblings are not permitted onsite. We thank you in
advance for your support in this matter.
Literacy and Numeracy is our core business – Early
Action for Success
You will hear our teachers speak about this as this is
our belief – literacy and numeracy is our core
business. Our goals are to ensure your child leaves
our school at the end of Year 6 with the key literacy
and numeracy skills to set them up for success in
their high school years. To lay the foundations for
them to choose whatever career path they wish and
for them to be the most active and informed citizens
in our community.
In order to achieve this we need your assistance in
making sure attendance is as great as possible at
school for our students, by engaging in the
information sent home and by sharing in this
partnership and assisting our school to be the best it
can be. Please see your class teacher to find out how
you can help achieve our collective goal.

We acknowledge and pay our respects to the elders, both past and present who have walked this land before us and now walk alongside us. We honour their totem Biraban the Eagle Hawk and his little brother Wiripaang which our school is named after. Meet some of our wonderful stage 3 students

RESPECTFUL RESPONSIBLE LEARNERS TERM 1 WEEK 4
Stage 3 have been developing our independence and preparing to take on leadership roles by
participating in the Peer Support Program. We focused on skills which develop our leadership
capacity, such as team work, problem solving, time management, effective communication and
being a positive role model. It was at times, challenging however everyone persisted and we all
agreed that lollies are essential!
Stage 3 are also learning to take ownership of our learning by collecting work samples for our
Learning Intentions Evidence (L.I.E). Each week we will need to prove our learning in Math and
English by participating in lessons and documenting our knowledge. We have all set our goals
and now are working hard to accumulate our L.I.E’s. Come in to school foyer to learn more about
us.
