1 Connect the suppliedAC power adaptor to theDC IN 3 V jack on theunit.

What is pairing?

Bluetooth devices need to be“paired” with each other beforehand.Once Bluetooth devices are paired,there is no need for pairing again,except in the following cases:• Pairing information is deleted

after repair, etc.• This unit is paired with 9 or more

devices.This unit can be paired with up to8 devices; if a new device ispaired after 8 devices have beenpaired, the device whose latestconnection time is the oldestamong the 8 paired devices isreplaced by the new one.

• When recognition of the unit bythe device to be connected isdeleted.

• This unit is initialized.All pairing information is deleted.

Procedures of pairing

1 Place the Bluetoothdevice within 1 m (3 ft)of this unit.

2 Press and hold thePOWER button for7 seconds or more tostandby for pairingwhile the unit is turnedoff.

Notes• After about 3 seconds, power is

turned on and the indicator (blue)and indicator (red) flash togethertwice. Keep the button pressedwithout releasing until bothindicators start flashing together,then release the button. This unitenters into pairing mode.

• If pairing is not established withinabout 5 minutes, pairing mode willbe cancelled and this unit will turnoff. In this case, start over fromstep 1.

3 Perform pairingprocedure on theBluetooth device todetect this unit.The list of detected devicesappears on the display of theBluetooth device. This unit isdisplayed as “DR-BT50.”If “DR-BT50” is not displayed,repeat from step 1.

4 Select “DR-BT50” onthe display of theBluetooth device.

5 If Passcode* input isrequired on the displayof a Bluetooth device,input “0000.”Pairing is complete when theindicator (blue) flashes slowly.The message standing for“Pairing complete” appears onthe display of some Bluetoothdevices.

* Passcode may be called “Passkey,”“PIN code,” “PIN number,” or“Password.”

6 Start the Bluetoothconnection from theBluetooth device.This unit memorizes the deviceas the last connected device.Some Bluetooth devices mayconnect with the unitautomatically when pairing iscomplete.

When pairing with aBluetooth device thatcannot display a list ofdetected devices or thathas no displayYou may pair the device by settingboth this unit and the Bluetoothdevice to pairing mode. For details,refer to the operating instructionssupplied with the Bluetooth device.

Tips• To pair with other Bluetooth devices,

repeat steps 1 to 5 for each device.• To delete all pairing information, see

“Initializing the unit” (page 26).

1 Make the Bluetoothconnection (HFP orHSP*) from theBluetooth mobile phoneto this unit.Refer to the manual suppliedwith your Bluetooth mobilephone for operation details.The list of recognized devicesappears on the display of theBluetooth mobile phone. Thisunit is displayed as “DR-BT50.”When you use the Bluetoothmobile phone features both HFP(Hands-free Profile) and HSP(Headset Profile), set to HFP.

NoteWhen connecting to a Bluetoothmobile phone which is different fromthe last connected one, make theconnection following the aboveprocedure.

Check the following beforeoperating the unit.– The Bluetooth function is active

on the mobile phone.– Pairing of this unit and the

Bluetooth mobile phone iscomplete.

using the voice-dial function bypressing the multi function button.

– You can call the last dialed number bypressing the multi function button forabout 2 seconds.

Calling while playing back musicThe Bluetooth connection using HFP or HSP as well as A2DP is necessaryto make a call while playing back music.For example, to make a call using a Bluetooth mobile phone while listeningto music on a Bluetooth compatible music player, this unit needs to beconnected to the mobile phone using HFP or HSP.

Make a Bluetooth connection between this unit and thedevice in use following the procedures outlined below.

1 Make a Bluetooth connection between this unit andthe mobile phone in use with HFP or HSP followingthe procedures outlined in “Calling” (see page 16).

2 Operate the Bluetooth device (music player or mobilephone) used for playing the music to make aBluetooth connection to this unit using A2DP.

To receive a call whileplaying back musicWhen an incoming call arrives, themusic pauses and the ring tone isheard from this unit.

1 Press the multi functionbutton and talk.After finishing the call, press themulti function button. This unitis switched back to musicplayback.

When no ring tone is heardeven if an incoming callarrives

1 Stop music playback.

2 When ringing, press themulti function buttonand talk.

To make a call whileplaying back music

1 Press the multi functionbutton while playingback music (page 18), oroperate your Bluetoothmobile phone to make atelephone call.If no dial tone is heard on thisunit, press and hold the multifunction button for about 2seconds.

Disposing of the unitThis unit has a Lithium-lon rechargeable battery inside the right unit.For environmental conservation, be sure to remove the built-in rechargeablebatteries from the unit before disposing, and dispose of the batteriesappropriately.

1 Detach the righthousing from the rightunit.1 Remove the ear pad from the

right unit.2 Remove the 3 screws.3 Remove the right housing.

2 Remove the jog switchfrom the right housing.1 Remove the screw located at

the side of the rechargeablebattery.

2 Lift up the circuit board onwhich the jog switch isinstalled together with thejog switch cover.

3 Disconnect therechargeable batteryfrom this unit.1 Remove the screw.2 Remove and turn over the

circuit board on which therechargeable battery isinstalled.

3 Pull out the connector on thecircuit board.

4 Slide out and removethe rechargeablebattery.

PrecautionsOn Bluetooth communication• Bluetooth wireless technology operates

within a range of about 10 meters(about 30 feet).Maximum communication range mayvary depending on obstacles (person,metal, wall, etc.) or electromagneticenvironment.

• The aerial of this unit is built into thehousing for the right ear. The sensitivityof Bluetooth communication willimprove by placing a connectedBluetooth device on your right side.

• The following conditions may affect thesensitivity of Bluetooth communication.– There is an obstacle such as a person,

metal, or wall between this unit andBluetooth device.

– A device using 2.4 GHz frequency,such as a wireless LAN device,cordless telephone, or microwaveoven, is in use near this unit.

• Because Bluetooth devices and wirelessLAN (IEEE802.11b/g) use the samefrequency, microwave interference mayoccur and resulting in communicationspeed deterioration, noise, or invalidconnection if this unit is used near awireless LAN device. In such as case,perform the following.– Use this unit at least 10 m (about

30 ft) away from the wireless LANdevice.

– If this unit is used within 10 m (about30 ft) of a wireless LAN device, turnoff the wireless LAN device.

– Install this unit and Bluetooth deviceas near to each other as possible.

• Microwaves emitting from aBluetooth device may affect theoperation of electronic medicaldevices. Turn off this unit and otherBluetooth devices in the followinglocations, as it may cause an accident.– where inflammable gas is present,

in a hospital, train, airplane, or apetrol station

– near automatic doors or a fire alarm• This unit supports security

capabilities that comply with theBluetooth standard to provide asecure connection when the Bluetoothwireless technology is used, butsecurity may not be enoughdepending on the setting. Be carefulwhen communicating using Bluetoothwireless technology.

• We do not take any responsibility forthe leakage of information duringBluetooth communication.

• Connection with all Bluetoothdevices cannot be guaranteed.– A device featuring Bluetooth

function is required to conform tothe Bluetooth standard specified byBluetooth SIG, and beauthenticated.

– Even if the connected deviceconforms to the above mentionedBluetooth standard, some devicesmay not be connected or workcorrectly, depending on the featuresor specifications of the device.

– While talking on the phone handsfree, noise may occur, dependingon the device or communicationenvironment.

• Depending on the device to beconnected, it may require some timeto start communication.
