This feedback will help you take steps to reduce your energy consumption and save money. The WIRELESS Solar Energy Monitor will show you:

Notes on Safety

Caution ● Please read all instructions before you use the monitoring system.

● Please shake the Energy Monitor and the Power Transmitter first before installation. In case you hear any sound from inside of the part, please don’t use it. Please replace it with your reseller.

● Keep the Energy Monitor, Power Transmitter and Sensor Clamp away from sources of heat, water or any other liquid.

● Do not locate the Energy Monitor, Power Transmitter and Sensor Clamp within reach of children.

● Do not open the product other than to replace the batteries.

● Do not use the monitoring system if you find your electric wire in abnormal conditions, such as loose wire, exposed copper wire, burnt mark on wire insulation layer, holes on wire layer or damage on electric meter. In case of such abnormalities, please consult a professional electrician immediately.

● Periodically check all wires and components to ensure there is no damage.

● Use a dry cloth to clean. Don’t use solvent, abrasive cleaners or water.

● Do not reply on the displayed information to calculate the cost of your elec-tricity bill. The WIRELESS Solar Energy Monitor is an educational device and is NOT intended to replace your energy supplies energy meter.

● Do not use this product where the use of radio frequency products can cause malfunction in other equipment (for instance hospitals, aircraft, etc.).

● Do not dispose of old batteries in a fire as they may explode.

● Do not open or mutilate the batteries. Released electrolyte from the bat-teries is corrosive and may cause burns or injury to the eyes or skin. The electrolyte may be toxic if swallowed.

● Always insert batteries correctly with regard to polarity (+ and -) marked on the battery and the equipment.

● Do not short battery terminals.

● Do not mix old and new batteries. Replace all of item at the same time with new batteries of the same brand and type.

● Remove dead batteries immediately and follow local codes for disposal.

Setup

2 Settings before startYou have to finish below required settings before you start to use, other-wise the Energy Monitor will not work probably.

The required settings will finish the settings for YEAR / MONTH / DAY / TIME / VOLTAGE / CURRENCY / TARIFF continually in the order as described.

Step 1 • Power ON the Energy Monitor

Step 2 • Setting Mode - Setup for Current YEAR

After being powered ON, the LCD screen will display (as Fig. 1) for about 3 seconds. This full LCD Display means Energy Monitor is in Setting Mode.

The display will shown the default setting for the year is [ 2011 ] and the symbol [ Y ] is flashing (Fig. 2). Now press the [ Set button1] shortly.

The thousand - digit will flash. Then use [ Up button2] or [ Down button 3] to adjust the thousand - digit to the correct value for the year.

Press the [ Set button1] shortly and operate the same way as for the YEAR setting to finish the setting of the month value (range 01 - 12).

Step 4 • Setting Mode - Setup for the DAY

After you press [ Down button3] to confirm the setting of MONTH and then will enter into day setting interface. The default setting is [ 01 ] and the symbol [ D ] is flashing (Fig. 5).

Press the [ Set button1] shortly and operate the same way as for the YEAR setting to finish the setting of the day value (range 01 - 31).

To confirm the setting of MONTH, press [ Down button3].

To modify the MONTH, please press the [ Set button1] again to re-start the MONTH setting.

To confirm the setting of DAY, press [ Down button3].

To modify the DAY, please press the [ Set button1] again to restart the DAY setting.

Setup

Press [ Set button1] to confirm and you will see that the hundred - digit of the year begins to flash.

Do the same way until you set the correct value of the last single - digit.

After you set the last single - digit, press the [ Set button1] shortly to confirm. The confirmation of the last single digit will make the complete 4 digits number flash (Fig. 3).

Step 3 • Setting Mode - Setup for the MONTH

After you press [ Down button3] to confirm the setting of YEAR and then will enter into month setting interface. The default setting is [ 01 ] and the symbol [ M ] is flashing (Fig. 4).

To confirm the setting of YEAR, press [ Down button3].

To modify the YEAR, please press the [ Set button1] again to restart the YEAR setting.

Step 6 • Setting Mode - Setup for the VOLTAGE

After you press [ Down button3] to confirm the setting of TIME and then will enter into voltage setting interface, where you will find three dashes to be set as the correct voltage value (Fig. 7).

Press the [ Set button1] shortly and the dashes [ - - - ] will automatically turn to be [ 0 0 0 ] and then the hundred-digit will flash

Use [ Up button2] or [ Down button3] to adjust the hundred - digit to the correct value for the voltage. Then press the [ Set button1] shortly to confirm and do the same way until you set the correct value for the last-digit.

After you set the last single - digit, press the [ Set button1] shortly to confirm. The confirmation of the last single digit will make the complete voltage value flash (Fig. 8).

The voltage are generally in the range 100-240V. Check carefully the voltage level of your country before set up.

Step 5 • Setting Mode - Setup for the TIME

After you press [ Down button3] to confirm the setting of DAY and then will enter into time setting interface. The symbol [ ] is flashing (Fig. 6).

Press the [ Set button1] shortly, the hour value of the clock will flash. Use the [ Up button2] or [ Down button3] to adjust to the correct hour.

Then press the [ Set button1], the time value will flash. Use the [ Up but-ton2] or [ Down button3] to adjust to the correct minute.

To confirm the setting of TIME, press [ Down button3].

To modify the TIME, please press the [ Set button1] again to restart the TIME setting.

To modify the VOLTAGE, please press the [ Set button1] again to re-start the VOLTAGE setting.

To confirm the setting of VOLTAGE, press [ Down button3].

Setup

Use [ Up button2] or [ Down button3] to adjust the first digit to the correct value, then press the [ Set button1] shortly to confirm and do the same way until you set the correct value for the last digit and press the [ Set button1] to confirm for the rate of TARIFF 1.

● No matter the applied tariff is single tariff or 3 tariff, the tariff setting will go through tariff 1 to tariff 3 accordingly.

● For single tariff, please enter [ 00:00 ] as the starting time of tariff 1.

● Please only enter the starting time of every tariff.

The confirmation of the last digit will make the clock value [ - - : - - ] flash. The starting time for TARIFF 1 will be set next.

Press the [ Set button1] shortly to enter the location setting of decimal point. Use the [ Up button2] or [ Down button3] to adjust the deci-mal point to the correct location, and press the [ Set button1] shortly to confirm.

Step 7 • Setting Mode - Setup for the CURRENCY

After you press [ Down button3] to confirm the setting of VOLTAGE and then will enter into currency setting interface. Totally there are 7 kinds of currencies [ £ / € / R / $ / R$ / KR / Rs ] that can be selected (Fig. 9).

Press the [ Set button1] shortly and the first currency will flash. Use the [ Up button2] or [ Down button3] to adjust to the correct currency.

Press the [ Set button1] shortly again to confirm the currency.

To modify the CURRENCY, please press the [ Set button1] again to restart the CURRENCY setting.

Step 8 • Setting Mode - Setup for the TARIFF

After you confirm the currency (eg. $ ), press [ Down button3] to enter into TARIFF setting interface, where you will find the default tariff value is displayed as [ $ - . - - - ], the time value is [ - - : - - ] and the symbol [ ] is flashing behind [ TARIFF ] as (Fig. 10). It means TARIFF 1 will be set first.

To confirm the setting of CURRENCY, press [ Down button3].

Step 9 • Setting Mode - Setup for the Solar TARIFF

The last pressing of the [ Down button3] will finish the all the setting and the LCD screen will return to unpaired HOUSE COST Mode (as Fig. 13).

To enter into the Setting Mode from the HOUSE COST Mode

1. Press the [ Set button1] for about 3 seconds. The LCD screen will display full LCD Display.

2. After the LED light flashes twice, release the [ Set button1] and the LCD screen will enter into the Setting Mode.

Do the same way to set TARIFF 1 and press the [ Set button1] to con-firm the setting for of Solar TARIFF.

After you set the tariff, press [ Down button3] to enter into Solar TARIFF setting interface, where you will find the default tariff value is displayed as [ $ - . - - - ] and the decimal point is flashing as (Fig. 12). It means Solar TARIFF will be set.

Press the [ Set button1] shortly, the hour value of the clock will flash. Use the [ Up button2] or [ Down button3] to adjust to the correct hour (range: 00-23).

Then press the [ Set button1] shortly to confirm and the minute value will flash. Use the [ Up button2] or [ Down button3] to adjust to the correct minute (range: 00-59).

Press the [ Set button1] to confirm the starting time of TARIFF 1. The display will then automatically lead to setting interface of TARIFF 2 (as Fig. 11), follow by TARIFF 3. Please operate the setting same way as Setting of Tariff 1. symbol [ ] is flashing behind [ TARIFF ].

● For single tariff, you can set any starting time for TARIFF 1 or just leave the dashes unchanged go to (Step 9 • Setting Mode - Setup for the Solar TARIFF).

● For 3 tariff, you have to set the starting time according to the real case. And do the same way to set TARIFF 2 and TARIFF 3 as the set-ting of TARIFF 1.

When the pairing is successfully finished, the antenna icon stops flash-ing and stays on the top right corner of the LCD screen. The paired LCD screen will return to the HOUSE COST Mode (as Fig. 15). In case the Power Transmitter begins to send data, the HOUSE COST Mode will show the data accordingly.

The pairing may take up to 60 seconds.

To pair more Power Transmitters with the Energy Monitor, operate the same way as described above.

If the pairing can’t be finished successfully within one minute, the LCD screen will return to unpaired HOUSE COST Mode.

3 Pairing for entire house useStep 1 • Prepare for Energy Monitor

Step 2 • Prepare for Power Transmitter

In the HOUSE COST Mode (Fig. 13), press the [ Down button3] and hold it there for about 3 seconds when the antenna icon is flashing at the top right corner of the LCD screen. This means the Energy Monitor is ready for pairing.

Pull out the clear plastic tab (marked with “REMOVE BEFORE USING”) from the back of the Power Transmitter. The tab is an insulation sheet, once it is pulled out, the built-in batteries will make the Power Transmitter start to work immediately.

Keep the Power Transmitter as close to the Energy Monitor as possible. Use a slim stick to push into the pairing hole of the Power Transmitter (as Fig. 14) and hold it there until the LED light of the Power Transmitter flashes quickly. The Power Transmitter is now starting to pair with the Energy Monitor. Fig. 14

5 Pairing for Solar System useStep 1 • Prepare for Energy Monitor

Step 2 • Prepare for Power Transmitter

From the HOUSE COST Mode, press the [ Set button1] 2 TIMES to switch to the SOLAR ENERGY Mode (as Fig. 17).

Now press the [ Down button3] and hold it there for about 3 seconds when the antenna icon is flashing at the top right corner of the LCD screen. This means the Energy Monitor is ready for pairing.

You may choose to put the Power Transmitter in a dry place near the moni-tored object or stick the Power Transmitter on the wall near the monitored object.

The Sensor Clamp immediately starts to sensor the current and the moni-toring system starts to work.

Fix the Sensor Clamp

Fix the Sensor Clamp around the live cable of the monitored object, as be-low (Fig. 16) is shown (Don’t fix the clamp around the ground wire). Make sure the cable is passing through the clamp.

If the monitored object use a 3-phase power supply. You need two more sensor clamps (available to purchase on our webshop and your reseller. Please visit www.wattsclever.com).

Connect the DC plug of each sensor clamp into the DC sockets on the back of the Power Transmitter.

10 Mode of Energy Monitor

1 HOUSE COST ModeThe HOUSE COST Mode is what the user usually sees from the LCD screen of the Energy Monitor.

It is the forecast of next hour’s total electricity cost of all channels based on current power under consumption. The TARIFF No. will always display on the LCD screen and automatically reflect the applied tariff for current period.

The change of the power consumption will change the forecast of next hour’s cost.

Press the [ Up button2] or [ Down button3] from the HOUSE COST Mode will allow the user to view the HOUSE COST for channel 3 to channel 15 (as Fig. 22). In that case, the clock icon and numbers will be replaced by the channel number.

10 seconds idleness on each channel display will return the LCD screen to HOUSE COST Mode.

No key operation under any other displays will return the LCD screen to the COST Mode.

There are two units (watts and kW) involved in this Mode. For data equal to or below 999.9 watts, the unit displayed is watts, for data over 999.9 watts, the unit will automatically switch to kW (Fig. 26).

From the HOUSE COST Mode, shortly press the [ Set button1] 3 TIMES to switch to the COST BALANCE Mode (as Fig. 32), which displays the bal-ance forecast between the HOUSE COST and SOLAR Yield for next hour based on current power. In case the SOLAR Yield is lower than HOUSE COST, the negative value symbol [ – ] will appear.

To view the history data of solar electricity output of an exact day, from the SOLAR ENERGY History Mode, press the [ Up button2] for about 3 sec-onds until the display enter into the history date input interface (as Fig. 31).

The numbers before the decimal point is for month and the numbers after the decimal point is for day.

If you want to view the history data of an exact month, just input the day value as 00 after the month value and confirm.

The historical data of an exact day is available for the past 31 days. The historical data of a specific month is available for the past 12 months.

From the HOUSE COST Mode, shortly press the [ Set button1] 4 TIMES to switch to the ENERGY BALANCE Mode (as Fig. 35), which displays the balance forecast between the power of home consumption and the power generate by Solar System. In case if the SOLAR produced power is lower than the power consumed, the negative value symbol [ – ] will appear.

Balance of energy cost of a specific day

To view the history data of balance energy cost of an exact day, from the COST BALANCE History Mode, press the [ Up button2] for about 3 sec-onds until the display enter into the history date input interface (as Fig. 34).

The numbers before the decimal point is for month and the numbers after the decimal point is for day.

If you want to view the history data of an exact month, just input the day value as 00 after the month value and confirm.

The historical data of an exact day is available for the past 31 days. The historical data of a specific month is available for the past 12 months.

Reset of Energy Monitor

Resetting and Data ClearanceTo clear the history data (resetting), please follow the instruction as follows:

Step 1 • Take out the batteries and unplug the power supply from the Energy Monitor.

Step 2 • Press and HOLD at the same time [ Up button2] and the [ Down button3], then plug in the power supply (or install the batteries) into the Energy Monitor.

The LCD screen will display full LCD display characters as below.

Balance of electricity energy of a specific day

To view the history data of balance electricity energy of an exact day, from the ENERGY BALANCE History Mode, press the [ Up button2] for about 3 seconds until the display enter into the history date input interface (as Fig. 37).

The numbers before the decimal point is for month and the numbers after the decimal point is for day.

If you want to view the history data of an exact month, just input the day value as 00 after the month value and confirm.

The historical data of an exact day is available for the past 31 days. The historical data of a specific month is available for the past 12 months.

Use the [ Up button2] or [ Down button3] and the [ Set button1] to select the date. Press [ Set button1] will make the selected date flash.

Then press the [ Down button3] to display the balance of electricity en-ergy for the selected date.

Buzzer Mode of Energy Monitor

Buzzer ModeFrom the HOUSE COST Mode, press the [ Up button2] and [ Down button3] at the same time for about 3 seconds to enter the Buzzer Mode.

If the buzzer is set on, the display unit will makes a “BEE” sound every time the key is pressed.

Then you see the symbol [ bOFF ] on the screen (as Fig. 39), it means the buzz-er was set to be OFF status during production default setting.

Now press shortly the [ Up button2] or the [ Down button3] to switch be-tween ON and OFF status.

When the buzzer is switched to ON status, it makes a “BEE” sound. In (Fig. 40) [ bON ] is the screen symbol of buzzer on status.

After switching to desired status, press the [ Set button1] to finish the set-ting and return to the COST Mode.

Reset of Energy Monitor

Step 3 • After the LED light flashes, release the [ Up button2] and [ Down button3]. The LCD screen will display the programming version (as Fig. 38).

Step 4 • After the LCD screen display the program version, unplug the power supply (or take out the batteries) from the Energy Monitor again.

Step 5 • Then re-install the batteries or plug the power supply again into the Energy Monitor and follow the instruction of 2 Settings before start on P. 6.

How electricity is measuredPower is the ability to do work. Electric power is measured in Watts (W), and for large values, in kilowatts (1000 Watts, or kW). A typical incandescent light bulb consumes 60 Watts. A typical microwave oven consumes 1 to 2 kilowatts.

Energy is power used over a period of time. Electric energy is measured in kilowatts-hours(kWh). If you leave a 60W light on for one hour, it consumes 60 Watt-hours, 0.06 kWh. If you leave a 2 kW microwave oven on for 15 minutes, it consumes 0.5 kWh.
