We started with week off with one of my favorite events of the year: The fifth grade musical. This year our fifth grade teachers directed the students in a performance of Theseus and the Minotaur (with a twist). This play was chosen due to the fifth graders’ interest in mythology, and the students were in charge of the set design, singing, and choreography. The dress rehearsal was performed for the entire school on Monday afternoon, and then again for friends and families in the evening. Great job to our entire fifth grade! Our fourth graders held their Living Biography this week for an impressed group of parents and family members. As guests visited each child’s station, they were greeted by the student, dressed in character, who presented a speech about the historical significance of their character’s life. Be sure to see the group photo later in the newsletter. Our third graders attended two field trips this week to enhance their learning about the history, geography and government of Massachusetts. One trip was to the State House in Boston and the Granary Burying Ground where famous historical figures such as Paul Revere are buried. The other trip was to the local historical sites in Hamilton and Wenham, with the high school AP History students as their tour guides. Our kindergarten classes were visited by Curious Creatures where they were able to see and learn about animals and their habitats. Earlier in the week Ms. Pasmore’s students performed The Little Red Hen for families. If you have a kindergartner in Ms. Kropilak’s class, they will be performing their play on June 1. Families, please mark your calendars: Mon., May 22, 6:30pm, Combined Elementary Chorus and Band concert at Buker School Gym Wed., May 24, 6:45pm, Family Orientation Night for grade 5 families at Miles River M.S.
