Winter 2018 FOCUS ON An update for supporters of the MVH Foundation In just a few days in my new position at Monongahela Valley Hospital, I made a happy realization: the Mon Valley is a truly unique and giving place. Here there is a tremendous sense of community and a commitment to support each other. I’ve learned that our neighbors are not just friends, but friends that become like family. This community takes care of one another and I am honored to be part of such a wonderful network of people and businesses. What makes me most proud though, is the value that our neighbors place on our community hospital. That support is on display every day and evident in all that we do. From Light Up Night to our Partners in Health Care and the Ducoeur Breast Cancer Walk, the Mon Valley community has always provided dedication and generous support to our efforts. As many of you know, the Office of Fund Development recently became the Monongahela Valley Hospital Foundation, a 501(c)3 organization whose mission is to provide and ensure support and sustainability to Monongahela Valley Hospital. With this change to a Foundation, we have already seen great growth and new opportunities. In the year ahead, we are devoted to working hard on behalf of our Hospital and this community and hope that you will continue to join us in this tremendously important work. This year was no different as we took nearly 600 guests to a galaxy far, far away with the theme “Galactic Night”. This event was especially distinctive with the announcement of the newly created Monongahela Valley Hospital Foundation. “Seven years ago, we created our Office of Fund Development to establish a formal fundraising program,” said Louis J. Panza Jr., president and CEO of Monongahela Valley Hospital, “We are now taking our fundraising efforts to the next level with the creation of the Monongahela Valley Hospital Foundation.” The newly formed foundation will help strengthen individual and corporate relationships; enable the health system to further partner with small businesses and other organizations to directly impact quality care; allow the hospital to remain on the cutting edge of health care with upgraded technology, state-of-the-art equipment and the creation of new programs; help to foster a culture of philanthropy and awareness of community health and wellness needs; and be instrumental in supplementing the shortfall in payer reimbursements. continued on page 2 Guests dance while Finesse performs at MVH Gala 30. The Wig Salon at MonongahelaValley Hospital (MVH) was giftedfunds raised at a Spaghetti Dinner
honoring the life of a local woman.This past spring, Hugo’s Restaurant in
Centerville was filled with communitymembers for the inaugural Carolyn G.Bundash Memorial Spaghetti Dinner.The event was hosted by Carolyn’shusband, Michael Bundash III, anddaughters, Michelle Alton and MelissaFitch.Carolyn fought cancer for 24 years
before she passed in April of 2017.Despite an active and fierce battle,her family remembers Carolyn playinggames and doing crafts with themregardless of how her chemotherapytreatments made her feel. Hergranddaughter, Sarah Fitch, notedthat Carolyn attended most of thegrandchildren’s activities and cheeredas loudly as she could.Like many patients, Carolyn, lost
her hair during those treatments. Whenshe was fitted for a new wig at MVH’sWig Salon, her family rememberspeople telling her that the wig lookedso good they couldn’t tell it wasn’t herreal hair.The event organizers chose The Wig
Salon as the recipient of the fundsraised from the dinner because of thecare the staff provided to Carolyn andher family. They credited the new wiggiving her added strength to fight thebattle of cancer. Carolyn alwayscommented that she wanted to ensureothers going through cancer wouldhave the benefits of The Wig Salon.In addition to wigs, the Wig Salon alsoprovides other comfort items such as,brushes, scarves, lotions and hats.“Everyone involved in her care at
MVH were so supportive, and attemptedto not only treat the illness, but to healand support the person and the family,”said Carolyn’s son, David Bundash.Michael Bundash added, “My wife
was an amazing, loving, person. Shehelped others even in the most difficultyears in her life. Her love for herfamily, her faith and doing for othersfilled her smile every day. She rarelycomplained and was always gratefulfor the care she received throughoutthe years at MVH.”Michael Bundash, along with his
family, presented MVH with a checkfor $5,000 from the Spaghetti Dinner’sdonations and proceeds. MVH will usethe money to continue the work TheWig Salon does for the community.
