Moisture evaporates in the air.

Snow falls into warm air and melts into rain.

An ice storm is a type of winter storm caused by

freezing rain.

An avalanche is a moving mass of snow that may contain ice, soil, rocks, and uprooted trees.

Frozen precipitation melts while falling into the warm air layer, and then proceeds to refreeze in the cold layer above the ground.

Light and fluffy snow is often called powder.

Snowstorms with high winds are often called blizzards.
