    Quality education is our ultimate goal at I.S. 230. Students will be taking theNew York State English Language Arts assessment on May 3, and May 4, 2010. Thenumber of passages and the number of questions on this assessment have greatlyincreased. In order to help our students prepar"fo, this challenge, we are sendinghome a homework package to be completed over the holiday seeson.

    Included in this package are several dffirent ways students can respond to theboolrs they are required to read over the holiday. All students are required to read aminimum o-f 90-120 minutes ner dsv if they are to increase their readins scores. Themust los their reading on the holiday reading loe. All students must read at least onebook on their indenendent reading level and write a reading response.four nights perweek during the holidays. In addition, students must then complete one of the writingactivities listed on the next page.
