a o we o w your ona on e a s as eensuccessful in creating a Telemedicine Clinic in a village calledLEstere in rural northern Haiti. Telemedicine is connecting doctorsto patients by video link and innovative diagnostic equipment. Currently our clinic attends to approximately 100 patients perweek, plus up to 20 urgent care patients who would not otherwisereceive medical attention. We have been able to provide mostmedications that have been required; however there has been adramatic increase in patients requiring intravenous bags (IV bags),which we do not have funding for. The cost of these isapproximately $5.00 each (US) and they must be bought in Haiti. Ageneral income per household in Haiti is $2.00 per day. Donations

Telemedicine in HaitiLifePaths Telemedicine Clinic has provided essential care toover 12,000 rural Haitians since it was established in August2010.

Through Telemedicine, specifically Tele-videoconferencing, patients and doctors arno longer required to make lengthy trips(sometimes four or five hours) for medicalappointments. And the health care isdelivered for free, including medication.These are the poorest of the poor, so if they have a choice to eat or go and find ouwhy they have a sore throat or an ear

infection, theyll go buy food, Elaine noteThats why we provide the health carefree. In two-and-a-half years, LGA has providedcare for more than 12,000 people.

What is the update on the LifePaths Telemedicine Clinic?

The LifePaths Telemedicine clinic is currently open two days a week - Wednesdays and Saturdays. Wesee approximately 50 patients for primary care, in addition to 10 urgent care patients per clinic day. Wehave three-trained Telemedicine Assistants (TMA) who are local Haitians, living in LEstere. They are

gaining an extraordinary amount of experience under Dr. Joeys direction and training program. We are

seeing an increase in womens needs; therefore we want to increase clinic days to include one extra day per week, which would be dedicated to womens issues

What is the most empowering improvement you have seen the earthquake?

Obviously the LifePaths Telemedicine Clinic has been empowering to all involved. The next substantial improvement has been the build out of the national highway. What used to take 5 hours to get toLEstere, now only takes 2 hours. During every trip, I am able to visually experience improvement whiletraveling to the rural areas. The national highway has been repaved, and road signs/symbols have been

posted. Garbage is consistently collected which is improving the overall look. Some tent cities havecome down, however there are areas that are still devastated and will continue to need support.

What is ahead for LifePaths in 2013?

We want to build up our Clothing and Jewelry Boutique in LEstere. Local Haitians design the clothing and jewelry and it is simply stunning. We have been recently contacted by an organization that creates adatabase and places these boutiques on a GPS map- that is accessible online to the public. Jean Eddy,our General manager and Community Lead attended a seminar on selling, marketing and exporting

products. This job creation program is offering local Haitians an opportunity to be trained, earn incomeand gain independence and dignity. There are many talented tailors and designers in Haiti, so this project will provide national attention for further growth. Extended profits are donated to the LGA TelemedicineClinic.

If you had a magic wand with 3 wisheswhat would they be??

I) I wish I had 100 wishes! Seriously, I wish that we could secure sustainable funding to continue to grow our Telemedicine clinic.

2) - I want our economic programs: boutique, Internet caf and the rice field project to become morefruitful and successful to create job sustainability.

3) - I wish the international world looking at Haiti continues to be educated on what they have done -what needs to be done - and will support the future of Haiti.

Travel with a PurposeLifePaths relief trips are oneweek long. The cost of the tripis $1000 USD per person, forone week. This cost covers allground transportation withinHaiti, lodging, breakfast anddinner daily, security andtranslators. The cost of flightsis not included in this price,but an average cost is about$600 - $700 per person for around trip. Many volunteerschoose to fundraise for theirtrips, and we can provide taxreceipts for this purpose. Why I Fell in Love with HaitiMy first trip to Haiti was in 2008, before theearthquake, when not many people knew much about theisland. On that trip I felt like I had discovered a gem and I hadto let the world know about this beautiful place andits amazing people. At first I didn't give much thought to whyI fell in love with the country, I just continued with my workthere, building relationships and memories. However, as Istarted encouraging others to join LifePaths relief efforts in

Haiti, I started thinking more and more about whyI, myself was drawn to this small island so much. I believe theone thing that caught my attention the most and right awaywas this presence of a deep-rooted respect for humanity thateveryone on the island seemed to exude. It was refreshing andinspiring at the same time. To explain it a bit more, I noticedthat relationships were not based on money or status; therewas nothing superficial about them. Instead, they were builton simple human natures such as our desire to havecompanionship, our fondness of sharing, and our goal to behappy in life and to be liked. My experience in Haiti so farhas been a learning curve and I hope to continue practicingthese small lessons in life that are so monumental to ourbeing.

Thanks Milk Bag Ladies!

There is a wonderful group of senior ladies that havebeen aptly named, The Milk Bag Ladies. They are aenior community in London. Thursday afternoons,hey meet in their local community room and create

amazing Milk Bag Mats that they generously donate tovarious organizations that are involved in internationalmission trips. LifePaths was recently one of the luckyecipients of their craft.

A couple of weeks ago LifePaths had the opportunity tomeet with the Milk Bag Ladies again and receiveanother generous donation. Elaine Knight, founder of LifePaths took the opportunity to explain our role inHaiti and shared the story of delivering their Milk BagMats to some very fortunate Haitians during ourecent trip to Haiti.

The Milk Bag Mats are being used as a warm welcomeo many of our little Haitian friends. Whether they areerving as a warm dry place to sleep, or a cozy place tohare toys, the Milk Bag Mats offer a refuge against

parasites, by keeping tender bottoms off the direct mudloors.

The generous donations of the milk bag mats, handrafted toys and collected items are sincerely
