Notes for company applying for reimbursement

1. The Maritime and Aviation Internship Scheme (Aviation) (the Internship

Scheme (Aviation)) will cover registered intern positions taken up by a

student who is: –

(a) a Hong Kong resident;

(b) lawfully employable in Hong Kong; and

(c) (i) a non-final year full-time local student of any undergraduate or sub-

degree programme of the eight University Grants Committee (UGC)-

funded institutions, Hang Seng Management College (HSMC), Hong

Kong Shue Yan University (HKSYU), the Open University of Hong

Kong (OUHK) and the Vocational Training Council (VTC); OR

(ii) a secondary six school leaver#.


2. Out of the monthly honorarium that each intern receives, the MATF will

contribute up to 75% or $6,000 (whichever is lower) for an internship

period of a minimum of 4 weeks up to three months within the same

calendar year.

3. Allowances (such as travel allowance, overtime allowance etc.) are not

reimbursable under MATF.

4. The reimbursement will be by cheque to the company that has registered for

the intern positions. The same company should be the employer who pays

the honorarium to the interns as supported by proof of payment.

5. For the purpose of calculation of the internship period, a month is taken to

be one calendar month from the start date of the internship.

6. If the internship period is a month (e.g. 10 Jun to 9 Jul), MATF will

reimburse to the company 75% of the total honorarium paid to the intern for

that period, or $6,000, whichever is lower. If the internship period is less

than a month, e.g. 4 weeks (e.g. 10 Jun to 7 Jul), MATF will reimburse to

the company 75% of the total honorarium paid to the intern (i.e. honorarium

for 28 days counting from 10 Jun to 7 Jul), or the pro-rata rate of $6,000 (i.e.

$6,000 x 28/30 = $5,600), whichever is lower. In cases where the internship

period is longer than three months, MATF’s reimbursement will only cover

up to the first 3 months of the internship, the rest will be the responsibility

of the company concerned.

# Not applicable to the students from any undergraduate or sub-degree programmes in the education

institutions as mentioned in item 1(c)(i).
