The 19th National Winter Fair takes place this year Sunday the 11th and Monday the 12th of October 2015. Irelands longest established winter fair for real cattle enthusiasts is an event not to be missed.

Rules and Conditions of Winter Fair 2015

1. Intending Exhibitors are particularly requested to peruse carefully & not enter an animal for exhibition, unless they are prepared to comply strictly with the regulations.

2. The onus of having each Exhibit entered in its proper class rests with the exhibitor.

3. No person, whatsoever, shall in any way communicate with the judges, prior to judging. The Judges decision is final.

4. No animal will be allowed to compete in more than one class other than the pairs.

5. Entry fee €30 per animal MUST be paid with entry, No Refunds. A commission of 2% of the sale price will be deducted.

6. All animals MUST be haltered & led except for Class 1, 2 & 3

7. Class 1, 2 & 3. No Clipping, No Halters, No Soap, animals should not have been previously shown.

8. In the event of animals changing Teeth after entry, they will be entitled to enter the next suitable class. Note: It is up to the exhibitor to regularise the entry on Show morning in such circumstances.

9. There will be no class for bull calves exceeding 500kgs, Or sale of bull calves exceeding 550kgs

10. Calves other than those mentioned in Rule 8 can move to the class appropriate to their weight. Ensure you are aware of your appropriate class before judging commences.

11. Whilst every care will be taken in the preparation of the catalogue, the Committee do not accept responsibility for errors, omissions etc.

12. Department of Agriculture Rules and Regulation apply in every respect.

13. Exhibitors are requested to extend their public liability insurance to cover attendance at shows.

14. All vehicles or property of any kind is at owner’s risk.

15. Entries will only be accepted on official Entry Form, tag numbers MUST also be stated for each animal.

16. In the event of an animal appearing to present a danger, the Safety Officer shall have the authority to direct the exhibitor to remove the animal immediately.

17. Any exhibitor found repurchasing owned animal(s) will be barred from exhibiting at all future Winter Fairs and will forfeit award & prize money.

18. All Champions & Winner of Class 19 must not be removed from the grounds before 2pm on Monday 12th October.

19. All 1st prize winners must present themselves for photographs.

20. All exhibitors from class 4-33 must wear a white coat or white shirt and commercial society tie in the showing ring if possible.

21. The Committee, who decisions shall be final, in all respects, shall decide all disputes, objections and other questions, relating to the Show and Sale.

22. All heifers are presumed maiden unless otherwise stated.

23. All Champion Prize Winners MUST attend the dinner dance to receive their crystal.

24. Animals exhibiting UK id tags must adhere to Department of Agriculture rules.

25. No exhibitor who owes entry fees from previous years will be permitted to enter until all arrears are paid in full.

26. Items purchased at the auction on Monday must be paid for in full to Roscommon Mart on the day.

27. Sale will run strictly in catalogue order.

Young Handlers of the futurePrizes: 1st - €50, €10 each to end of line.Class A & B - Entry fee- €5.00

Class A. Intermediate Stockperson, Age 12 to 15 years old on day of show

Class B. Senior Stockperson, Age 16 to 19 years old on day of showNote: Proof of age may be required. Entrants for class A & B must use a calf born in 2015

Prizes: 1st - €200, 2nd - €150, 3rd - €100, 4th - €60 and 5th - €50 (unless otherwise stated)

1. Super Beef Cow, Un-haltered (Judged on Monday Morning) PLEASE NOTE: Maximum number of entries per exhibitor for this class is 3 entries. This class is limited to the first 25 entries received.2. Heifer Weanling, Un-haltered under 450kgs (Judged on Monday Morning) PLEASE NOTE: Maximum number of entries per exhibitor for this class is 3 entries. This class is limited to the first 25 entries received.3. Bull Weanling, Un-haltered under 500kgs (Judged on Monday Morning) PLEASE NOTE: Maximum number of entries per exhibitor for this class is 3 entries. This class is limited to the first 25 entries received.4. Belgian Blue Cross Bullock retaining calves mouth5. Belgian Blue Cross Heifer retaining calves mouth6. Belgian Blue Cross Bullock showing 2 or more permanent teeth7. Belgian Blue Cross Heifer showing 2 or more permanent teeth8. Charolais Cross Bullock retaining calves mouth9. Charolais Cross Heifer retaining calves mouth 10. Charolais Cross Bullock showing 2 or more permanent teeth11. Charolais Cross Heifer showing 2 or more permanent teeth12. Standard Classes

15. Irish Blonde male or female calf. Female under 400kg, Male under 450kg (must be out of blonde sire and BA on ID card)16. Irish Blonde breeding heifer under 24 months (must have blonde breed characteristics and be suitable for breeding and must have BA on ID Card)17. Hereford Cross Bullock or a heifer under 30 months, suitable for Hereford Prime, sired by Hereford Bull18. Aberdeen Angus Cross Bullock or Heifer suitable for the Producer Group. Weight between 500 – 700Kgs19. Super-market Heifer, under 24 months between 490kgs and 600kgs. (Ideally Fat Score 3-4L.) Animals entered in this class must be for sale and 1st Prize Winner must be sold.20. Heifer suitable to make best Suckler Dam holding not more than 2 permanent teeth on the day of show.21. Simmental Cross Maiden/In-Calf Heifer born before 01/09/2014. (Class judged on ability to make a Suckler Dam and all entries must have SI or SIX on NID Card).22. Simmental Cross Weanling Heifer born on or after 01/09/ 2014. (Class judged on ability to make a Suckler Dam and all entries must have SI or SIX on NID Card)23. Aberdeen Angus Cross Calf, Male or Female. (Continental Crosses Excluded). Male under 410Kgs, Female under 360Kgs24. Limousin Male Weanling, under 500Kgs. 25. Limousin Female Weanling, under 450Kgs. Weanlings overweight for this class are allowed move to Class 13 26. Male Calf under 500Kgs. (Ref Rule 8)27. Female Calf under 450Kgs.28. Male Calf under 400Kgs.29. Female Calf under 350Kgs.30. Male Calf under 325Kgs.31. Female Calf under 300Kgs.32. Best Pair of animals any age, any breed, from the same herd

Champion and Reserve Champion of each breed - Angus, Belgian Blue, Charolais, Hereford, Irish Blonde, Limousin, Simmental, Calf Champion and Young Handlers will be presented with Crystal at the Dinner Dance on Sunday Night.

EXHIBITORS INTENDING TO SELL STOCK WOULD BE ADVISED TO HAVE ANIMALS FRESHLY EXPORT TESTED,

SUITABLY VACCINATED AND DULY CERTIFIED SO.
