The St. Albert Family Resource Centre (SAFRC) offers an in-house subsidy for

individuals and families wanting to take a SAFRC program who are on a limited

income. Qualifying families can receive a family membership, and annual

assistance of up to $100 per person, or up to $300 for a family of four or more

for all registered programs offered by SAFRC.

This is a great opportunity for parents, care givers, or grandparents to come and enjoy our

Early Learning Centre with their children. The Early Learning Centre offers a comfortable

and secure play environment that engages children in activities which will promote their

growth and development. Come meet new friends or connect with old ones!

EXPLORING THE SENSES (Ages 0 to 18 months) Help your little one explore the world around them through their senses. Enjoy facilitator

lead activities that promote their sensory development through music, hands-on play,

movement and touch.

GIGGLES & GAMES (Ages 18 months to 2.5 years) Hey Moms and Dads! Are you looking for fun and new ways to interact and play with your

baby? Do you want some simple ideas that don’t involve fancy and expensive toys? This

course is designed to allow you and your baby to spend some time together

strengthening your bond, while enhancing your baby’s brain development through simple

games, songs, finger plays, and movement activities.

MUGS & HUGS (Ages 2.5 years to 5 years) Come in and enjoy some quality time with your child, which will include crafts, songs,

games and more. Not only will you participate and cuddle with your child, you will also

enjoy time socializing with others. Indulge in a “mug” of something warm and you never

know…you might even make a friend or two!

LITTLE HANDS, ARTS & CRAFTS (Ages 0 to 18 months) Little hands offers child–driven interactive activities where parents can enjoy creating arts

and crafts with their little one. Don’t be afraid to get a little messy in this program!

TINY TOT CREATIONS (Ages 18 months to 2.5 years)

Creativity, imagination and sensory play are all things that your tiny tot will experience in

this program! Simple creative activities are some of the building blocks of children devel-

opment. Join your child as they are encouraged to express themselves all while develop-

ing their fine motor skills, language development, visual learning and inventiveness. Make

sure that you dress for a mess as we are bound to get there!

LITTLE CHEFS (Ages 2.5 to 5 years) Have you ever wondered what kinds of dishes your child could make in the kitchen with a

little help? Discover a variety of enjoyable kid friendly cooking activities & recipes in this

highly interactive session for you and your little one. The many talents of your “Little Helper”

may surprise you! *Due to the intensity and hands-on nature of this program, if attending

with more than one child, we require that each individual child be accompanied by an

adult.

COME PLAY WITH ME with Transitions (Ages 0 to 5 years) Come and join the fun! This playgroup is co-facilitated by St. Albert FRC and Transitions

Early Intervention Program. It is designed to provide activities that will encourage growth

and learning in many aspects of child development. Through repetitive songs, stories,

movement activities and more, parents and children will have opportunities to meet new

friends, actively play and learn together. Limited spaces.

DISCOVER & LEARN (Ages 2.5 to 5) Weekly Program During Discover and Learn, children will be engaged in planned activities along with free

play using our learn-through-play philosophy. Children will explore science, literacy,

problem solving, socializing and much more. A nut free snack is also provided. Registration

& payment must be made in advance. Registration is per class, up to one month in

advance. *Please note: This is a members only program.*

WORRY WOOS “DON’T FEED THE WORRY BUG!” (Ages 5 to 6 years) Sometimes emotions can be scary or confusing, especially when we don’t understand

them. Based on Andi Green’s “ The Worry Woos” program and books, this class is filled

with fun activities to help children deal with the worries that they encounter in today’s

society. Wince, The Monster of Worry will be with us through games, discussions and story

time to help us understand what we are feeling and how we can express those feelings in

LOOK AT ME, I WANT TO BE... (Ages 4 to 6) Every child has heard the question “what do you want to be when you grow up?” Well this

class will allow your child to dive in and learn about various occupations through struc-

tured and unstructured play. Perhaps they will be a construction worker, or a doctor, or

maybe even a teacher! Let them decide for themselves what they want to be.

ERIC CARLE (Ages 3 to 5) Eric Carle, an American designer, illustrator and author, has blessed many with his creative

stories and enticing artwork. Let your child discover for themselves just how magical his

important life lessons through creative play, crafting as well as song and dance.

FESTIVALS AROUND THE WORLD (Ages 3 to 5) Beads, bright colours and masks! This class has all the sites and sounds of festive

some little known celebrations!

LITTLE VAN GOGH (Ages 4 to 6) Not only does art enhance creativity, imagination and self-esteem it greatly encourages

cognition, critical thinking and learning in children. In this class, your child will explore the

history and techniques of various famous artists; be amazed as they re-create these artistic

masterpieces.

RHYTHM & RHYME (Ages 3 to 5) Parents, now is a perfect time to introduce your child to the concept of rhythm and rhyme

through engaging songs and games. Rhythms characterize body functions such as eating

and toilet training, whereas rhyming sounds actively boost brain activity and a child’s early

literacy ability. Let your child explore the world of opportunities through song and dance,

finger play, musical instruments, and much more.

enormous Diplodocus. We will be walking with the dinosaurs through our stories, crafts,

and other activities. If you were a dinosaur, which one would you be?

SNOWED IN! (Grades 1 to 6) With Want to have some fun while escaping the chilling sub-zero temperatures? In this

program imagination and silliness come alive. Children will engage in fun filled winter

activities such as crafts and games. This program will enable children to express

themselves while improving communication skills, building self-confidence, problem-

solving skills.

JUNIOR EINSTEINS (Grades 2 to 6) Slime, lightning, magnets and explosions are what this class is all about! Children will

spend the afternoon exploring science through hands on experiments that will be sure to

test their theories and expand their knowledge. This fun and interactive science class is

sure to get messy!

DIY CREATIONS (Grades 2 to 6) Is your child passionate about building or crazy about crafting? Well if so, this hands-on

course will focus on giving them the building blocks they need to make their own marvel-

ous creations out of anything! From popsicle stick catapults to homemade chalk, your

child will engage in projects that will not only stimulate their imagination, but also foster

skills around engineering, problem solving, and creativity.

HOME ALONE (Grades 4 to 6) Parents, have you been asking yourself if your child is ready to stay at home alone? This

program offers children the opportunity to learn and practice many skills that will help

them make good decisions and be more independent. Some topics to be covered

include: responsibilities & safety inside the home, street smarts, rules, internet safety,

boundaries & communication. *Please bring a nut-free lunch and snack.*

STRANGER DANGER (Grades K to 1) Parents know that teaching their children about stranger danger is important, but many

are unsure of how to approach the subject while not scaring their children at the same

time. Through an interactive DVD, this course will help your child understand the how's and

the why’s of staying safe by providing them information about safe adults, unknown

adults, the use of code words, and what to do in situations where they may encounter

strangers, while still being fun and engaging.

JUNIOR CHEFS & GYM CLASS HEROES (COMBO CLASS) (Grades 2 to 6) Hey parents, do you have a future Chef on your hands? Then have them join us for some

crazy culinary creations! This hands-on program will help familiarize young chefs with food

choices and delicious taste experiences from start to finish, while learning basic cooking

skills and kitchen safety tips. In the afternoon, we will release some energy and enjoy some

classics (and not so classic) gym class games, such as: Dodgeball, Tag, Steal the Bacon,

Noodle Poppers, and much more. We guarantee your kids will have fun and sleep great

after this class!

WORRY TOO MUCH (Grades 1 to 3) This program will help guide children in techniques used to help ease the feeling of

anxiety. Worry Too Much will teach your child a new and more successful way to think

about and manage anxiety. Using how-to steps, drawing, writing, and hands on activities

that will help teach children how to reduce anxiety. Through discussions this program will

help children think positively and create different ways to cope with anxiety.

**Parents please be aware that this program is an entry level program for children learning

about anxiety.**

TAMING YOUR WORRY DRAGONS (Grades 4 to 6) Using a booklet as a guide, children will learn about anxieties/worries and formulate strate-

gies to tame those worries. Through a variety of activities participants will create their tool

box of strategies. Children will also learn to shift from negative to positive self-talk, helping

to feel more confident in themselves and practice their detective work to keep track of

successes. Parents, please be aware that this program is an entry level program for chil-

dren learning about anxiety.

TRIPLE P Join us for Triple P group sessions, targeted for parents and caregivers of children aged 4

to 12 years old. The aim of Triple P is to increase parental confidence and have the ability

to deal with many parenting challenges. Triple P is a toolbox of solutions where parents

choose the strategy that best fits their family. This unique group will run for 4 weeks of in-

class sessions. Follow up telephone consultations with our Parent Coach are available as

well.

ANXIETY IN CHILDREN Anxiety is a common health concern for children. There are many practical strategies and

tools that a parent can utilize to help their child manage anxiety. Learn how to recognize if

your child is feeling anxious and how to talk about it with them. As part of the strategies

children will learn to recognize their strengths and

successes. Our facilitator will guide parent discussions in how to best support their children.

Developing Good Sleep Habits; Sibling Rivalry; Worry Too Much, and many more.

Outreach courses can be designed for any organization, including:

Registration Information

Registration is taken on a first come, first serve basis.

Payment must be made in full upon registration.

Participants must meet the program requirements to register.

Registration for programs can be made during our regular office hours, by:

*Phone, at 780-459-7377, with Visa or Mastercard, or,

*Drop-in, with Cash, Cheques, Visa or Mastercard.

Early Childhood program requirements *including toilet training policies*

The following requirements are in place for health and safety reasons:

Children 3 and over, who are registering for an un-parented program, must be potty- trained.

Children attending Discover & Learn, must be in the process of being potty-trained, and must wear a pull-up or diaper, due to sanitation concerns. Our staff will still encourage children to use the washroom. If you require any tips and strategies to accelerate the toilet training milestone, our family support team will be happy to assist you.

Parents are strongly encouraged to participate in our parented programs prior to registering their child for an un-parented program.

Cancellation Policy**

You must notify us a minimum of five working days prior to our program start date to receive a partial refund.

An administration fee will be deducted from all refunds.

No refunds will be issued less than five working days prior to the course start date.

Cancellation of our weekly, members’ only, registered program, Discover & Learn, must be made by noon, the previous working day. *Refunds are not available for this program; however, your child will be moved to another available course date.

*Please be advised: we cannot ‘hold’ a credit; credit must be moved to an actual date within the same program calendar year.

St. Albert FRC reserves the right to combine, postpone or cancel classes due to insufficient registration. Course cancellations may occur due to reasons beyond our control. Full refunds will be issued for courses cancelled due to insufficient registration.

Our Parent Coach is available to meet with

Home Visitation The Home Visitation program is a long-term

family education and support program

serving families throughout pregnancy until

their child enters kindergarten. It is availa-

ble to families who reside in St. Albert and

require information on parenting and child

Health for Two

Are you pregnant and need support? Health

for Two offers prenatal education and

community resources to women during their

pregnancy and following the birth of their

baby. This free program is designed for wom-

en who may face social or economic risks to

a health pregnancy. These risks include one

or more of the following :

The Health for Two program is delivered one-

on-one by a Family Educator. We provide

free bus tickets, milk coupons, prenatal vita-

mins and more .

We believe every woman deserves a safe ,

stress free and happy pregnancy .

Developmental Screens

Would you like to know how your child is

developing? Are they meeting their

developmental milestones? Our staff are

trained in using Ages & Stages and

Nipissing child development screens.

The questionnaire is family friendly and

you will receive immediate feedback.

Our staff will be happy to provide you

with strategies and activities to try at

home with your child. Referrals can also

be made to other early childhood

programs that will continue to enhance

your child’s development.
