A Christmas MessageBy The Revd.Nick Cornell - Curate

It amazes me that every Christmas, the excitement levels don’t drop! Our son started his Christmas list back in May and every day as Christmas gets closer, the level of anticipation mounts.

That sense of excitement is evident as we celebrate Christmas at All Saints’ Church. Christmas morning is abuzz with children and adults celebrating that God sent his son as a little child to bring us all closer to each other and to God.

The trouble is by the New Year, so often our excitement levels have dropped a little. It’s a shame really - that good news of Christmas - that present of God’s son - is something that should cause us to buzz with joy all year long! Why not join us this Christmas and fi nd out why Christians have a year long celebration?

All Saints’ Church – who are we?By The Revd. Robert Lovatt - Vicar

We see churches on many street corners and sometimes we see the faithful few walking into or out of them. Most people however, only set foot in them occasionally such as for weddings and funerals. What is church all about?What do we stand for?Why might you be interested?

All Saints’ seeks to be a community of people who together worship Jesus Christ. The church is primarily the

people and not a large Victorian building. Our hope is to care for every one of our members. Our faith in Christ is current that energises us and our desire is to build each other up in faith. Prayer, Bible study and seeking God together lies at the core of our church life .

Being part of a church is not an austere duty but a joy and so we seek to have fellowship with each other and when the occasion arises to celebrate. Doing things together and sharing meals is commonplace.

As a church we are Evangelical. You don’t need to have ‘arrived’ as a supersaint before attending we welcome those know their spiritual life is a long way from perfect.

In fact we love to welcome into our community those who are searching or unsure of where they stand spiritually. Often we run courses such as Alpha for people who are wanting to fi nd out more.

Every age group is represented in All Saints’ from centenarians to the newly born. Everyone is valued and we always want to try and build links with the local community.

Our premises are often used for concerts and other community events and we hold many activities such as parent and toddler groups. Come and fi nd out for yourself.

J21:12 Men’s Breakfast is ‘arrested’ by PC Tony Stamp

At the recent ‘Men’s Breakfast’ guest speaker was Graham Cole, who played PC Tony Stamp from The Bill. Graham gave an inspiring and fascinating talk about being a Christian in the very secular world of entertainment.

His strong message to us was to encourage more Christians to get involved in the arts and in particular TV to help stop the tide of secularism.

Watch out…as All Saints’ youth and kids are in for a great time as we roll out the musicians and loosen our larynx ready for a musical feast at our new look Carol Service 4pm on the 20th December at All Saints. Plus our Crib service as always is a fi rm favourite for all the young families on 24th December at 3pm

Our mid week clubs, the 14-18’s (CYFA group) and the toddlers never miss out on the fun and festivities at our Parent and Toddler group PANDA, and Toddler Praise (I do believe in santa!).

If you are secondary age and love to sing, dance and act then don’t miss the auditions and rehearsals for our Magical Musical due to be staged in February Half term 2011.

We’re off to Neverland - Oh yes we are!By Julian Dale - Co-Director of Peter Pan

I can hardly believe this year’s production of Peter Pan is the All Saints’ Player’s eighth pantomime and during that time we’ve had over 80 members of the congregation onstage with us including 2 vicars, 2 curates and a bishop!

Originally organised by the wonderful John and Cathy Newton, before their departure to Somerset, this is my seventh year at the helm and I’m delighted to welcome Emma-Jane as my co-director, fresh from her triumph two years ago as Robin Hood.

Similarly, I couldn’t be happier that David Churchyard and his band have agreed to provide the music - there are many professional pantos who would be jealous of their virtuosity!

As for the purpose of a Church pantomime? Well, to my mind, its primary purpose is to provide a festive entertainment that the entire church family can enjoy (and can invite their friends to). God gave us a wonderful imagination and I’m certain that the sound of our laughter must cheer his heart, just as the sound of my girl’s laughter fi lls me with joy.

It’s fun to believe in fairies, panto crocodiles and fl ying boys; I don’t believe that we diminish our sincerely held beliefs, or our ability to share those beliefs, by the innocent pleasure of a pantomime.

So, brush of that fairy-dust, warm up those vocal chords and set course for “the second star to the right and straight on till morning.”

All Saints Panto Peter Pan is being performed at the Big School Theatre at Eastbourne College on the 21st, 22nd and 23rd December. Tickets cost £4 for children, £5 for adults. Performances are 7pm on 21 & 22nd December and at 6pm on 23rd December .Mulled wine and other refreshments will be available in the interval. Tickets are available from the Church Offi ce on 01323 732823 or from Julian & Hiliary Dale after the Sunday 10am service.

Past productions have included Aladdin, Cinderella (above) twice, Snow white, Jack and the Beanstalk, Dick Whittington, and Babes in the Wood
