BACKCHAT
We like to acknowledge our hard working
staff and we’re delighted that so many
choose to stay with Greenshields JCB for
lengthy spells of their working life. The
following staff are all in our ‘20+ years and
still going strong’ club.
Trevor Farr – 31 years
Stewart Watling – 27 years
Trevor Alexander – 29 years
Andy Moore – 27 years
Keith Wilson – 28 years
Peter Doe – 26 years
Glyn Godman – 27 years
In support of our in-house training programmes
we have recently opened a dedicated training
facility at our headquarters in Farnham. Used
predominantly to train our own engineers, the
facility is also available for use by our customers
and quick on the uptake was the AFI Group.
Mark Jones, AGI Group Training Manager,
was very complimentary on his experience;
“Greenshields was a pleasure to deal with. I
was consulted at every stage from scoping out
the training right through to the final day of
delivery. The degree of professionalism made
this a simple task for me and feedback from
our engineers has been most pleasing. It was
obvious from my site visit that the team at
Greenshields worked hard to deliver a solution WELCOMEWelcome to the winter edition of Greenshields JCB Backchat.
The summer has well and truly departed but what a summer it was. Since we sent you our last newsletter the construction market has been exceptionally buoyant and the UK is now the fastest growing market for JCB globally.
Our own activity reflects this, particularly being based in the busy South East, and it’s very pleasing to report that equipment sales are thriving. The autumn forecasts from the Construction Products Association are also upbeat and estimate a construction output growth of 4.8% in 2014 and even more impressive 5.3% in 2015.
As the private sector continues to be the main driver of growth, we are actively seeking an additional depot location to service the ‘Nine Elms’ regeneration project near Battersea – the largest project of its kind in the EU and bigger than both the Olympics and Crossrail. A huge opportunity for us all.
Therefore, we wish everyone a busy last few months of trading for 2014 before a well-earned festive break, and look forward to working with you all for an exciting 2015.

that exceeded my expectations. I wouldn’t
hesitate to recommend them and will certainly
be using them again myself.”
Our courses are bespoke designed for
customers to meet their personal needs and to
ensure they have all the knowledge they need
to successfully manage their JCB machinery.
Popular member of staff, Sue Falla, retired
on 30th October after 14 years as PA to MD,
George Greenshields and HR Administrator.
Renowned for her infectious personality and
wicked sense of humour Sue’s big smiles will
be missed every day at Farnham HQ.
Sue certainly lives life at a fast pace - none of
us here can keep up - and she’ll no doubt be
keeping herself busy with an action packed
retirement. In fact we’re never quite sure how
she ever fit work in to her itinerary.
Good luck Sue and here’s to a long and happy retirement.

ENGINES FULL OF FEATURES, NOT FILTERS!
IN THE SPOTLIGHT....
The JCB EcoMAX is the ONLY T4i/IIIB compliant engine available which doesn’t have a bulky SCR or DPF after treatment.
That means no worrying about the regeneration process and potential extra expense. Instead the JCB EcoMAX engine has been packed full of features to be at the forefront of the market, such as:
Clean Burn TechnologyUsing a highly efficient and clean combustion process means the JCB EcoMAX does not produce high levels or emissions so does not require after treatment.
NO DPF or SCRThe removal of exhaust after treatment systems mean the JCB EcoMAX is extremely compact without compromising visibility or manoeuvrability.
Oil SavingsBecause the JCB EcoMAX doesn’t need exhaust after treatment, it doesn’t require costly heat-resistant lube oils.
Simplified ServicingThe removal of the DPF and SCR means the JCB EcoMAX is easier and quicker to service.
Versatile Fuel MappingOur innovative recalibration option allows the JCB EcoMAX to run on lower grade fuels.
High Torque at Low SpeedJCB EcoMAX produces high levels of torque at engine speeds as low as 1200rpm for maximum fuel-efficiency.
Proven ReliabilityJCB engines are tried and tested for 110,000 hours in 70 different machines across the toughest applications.
Examples of machines fitted with the JCB EcoMAX engine include the JCB 3CX, 531-70, 535-95, 535-125, 535-140, 540-170, JS130 and the new JCB 85Z.
THE FACTS...
JCB EcoMAX engines are fully compliant with T4i/lllB legislation.
JCB machines do NOT need a DPF to meet this legislation.
JCB machines achieve very low emission levels by using a highly efficient and clean combustion process.

JCB’S NO-DPF EXCAVATORS
COINFORD CONSTRUCTIONSEXTENDS RANGE WITH JCB
POPULAR WITH CUSTOMERS When JCB launched their fuel efficient Tier 4i/Stage IIIB EcoMAX engine they did so following consultation with customers who would be affected by the changes to their machines. An innovative solution that focussed on designing a system to prevent the creation of pollutants – rather than curing them in the machine tailpipe – led to the creation of the world’s first ‘no DPF’ engine fully compliant with emissions legislation.
The technology has proved highly popular with customers who don’t have the hassle of costly after-treatments and benefit from low emissions and reduced fuel consumption.
The upturn in construction activity, particularly
in the housebuilding sector, continues to
benefit companies in the civil engineering and
groundworks sector who are in turn placing
orders for new machines keeping all of us in the
construction sector busy.
New Greenshields JCB customer, Coinford
Construction, has picked up contracts
throughout London and the South East on
behalf of the major housebuilders including the
prestigious Park Royal Development in North
London, Weston Homes in Basildon and a 300
property development in Harefield.
Their in-house plant division, Coinford Plant,
manages all plant and machinery requirements
for the company and has recently increased their
fleet of telescopic handlers to include 5 of JCB’s
market leading Loadalls – 2 of the 9.5m 535-95’s
and 3 of the Hi-Viz, 12m lift height 540-120’s.
John Bowers manages procurement for
Coinford Plant and specified the JCB’s following
a competitive evaluation and demonstration:
“The JCB machines were just the right specification
for the work we have in hand. I think we will make
good use of the Livelink feature – especially
in monitoring fuel performance and machine
location – which comes as a standard feature on
the machines. However it was the overall package
of servicing and warranty from Greenshields JCB
that made it the right deal for us and I’m looking
forward to good, long term care from them.”
0411 - JCB Backchat GREENSHIELDS Q4 2014 Print v3.indd 7 11/12/2014 10:15
We’re also pleased that existing customer,
Johnson Plant, has confirmed their on-going
trust in Greenshields and JCB machinery
with a recent investment in 5 large JS tracked
excavators as well as 6 midi models.
Specialising in ground works and civil engineering
across the south east of England, Johnson
Plant invested in the excavators to support
the increase of projects due to the current
house building boom. The JCB excavators,
which range between 5 and 22 tonnes, were
chosen specifically for their no-DPF engines,
which eliminate the requirement for costly
regeneration processes now associated with
most excavators.
Customer service also played a major part in
securing the new business which is testament to
the importance we, as a business, place on our
after care.
Multi-disciplined construction company, The
Hague Group, hadn’t previously considered
using JCB excavators but following an evaluation
of excavator manufacturers they found feedback
on JCB machines to be very positive. Their
fitter foreman had also previously worked as a
mobile engineer for a JCB dealer and helped
to initiate initial communications with the
Greenshields sales team. A visit to JCB Heavy
Products was organised to highlight build quality
and processes and this was quickly followed by a
machine demonstration.
Fiona Smith is Plant Manager for Hague
Plant (South East), the arm that oversees the
company’s machinery requirements;
“Our trip to JCB really highlighted the
importance JCB places on customer feedback
and machine development. That, combined with our operators’ positive feedback on the machine,
led us to conclude a deal for 6 machines from 5 to 22 tonnes and so far we are very happy with the
service provided by Greenshields. They understand time is money and resolve any issues very quickly”.
The company is also taking advantage of Livelink, fitted as standard, to manage their
maintenance schedules and for security purposes.
Speaking on behalf of Johnson Plant, Kevin Lynch said, “When Johnson Plant started, Greenshields
JCB guaranteed us a full service back-up and a fast response time if there were any issues. They have
proven that to us over the last 14 years, rapidly dealing with few minor issues that we have had.”

Grease Oil change Filter change Clean Check levels
It’s a known fact that the majority of main problems encountered by machines are caused by a lack of maintenance.
Something as simple as a regular application of grease to your machine will keep it working to the best of its ability for longer as well as making full servicing much easier and saving you money.
Use the table below as a quick ‘at a glance’ maintenance checklist for JS130 excavators:
PREVENTIONIS BETTER THAN CURE
Lubricants• Wide range of specialist lubricants for all applications • Up to 30 times cleaner than lower cost alternatives, preventing potential system contamination
Filters• Maximised engine performance and therefore reduced running costs• Compliance with emissions legislation• Wide selection available
Grease• Wide range of products to suit all applications• Selection of accessories for the safe handling and application of the grease
Don’t forget, only approved JCB Hammer Greases should be used for JCB Breakers as damage can occur if standard machine greases are used.

We’re very proud of the sporting achievements
of one of our apprentices. 17 year old Connor
Nash is definitely not someone you want to
mess with. A judo champion here in the UK:
he was recently awarded the great honour
of representing his country in competition in
Holland. Having practised Judo since he was
just 6 years old – competing for the last 8
years - Connor is currently a brown belt and
should achieve his ultimate aim of his black belt
early next year. In the meantime the St Albans
club member was selected to compete in
the British Judo Squad thanks to his excellent
performances at national level. Competing
in the 81kg class he triumphed with a hugely
creditable 3rd place in the 81kg weight class.
Huge congratulations from all the team at
