NC Alternative Placements
• Alternative schools and programs reported 14,090 student placements in 2011-12, only three fewer than in 2010-11.
• 12,874 individual students were placed in alternative programs over the course of the 2011-12 school year.
• Males were placed in alternative programs at higher rates than females, African-Americans at higher rates than other ethnic groups, and ninth graders at higher rates than other grade levels.
