Bisannagkalain-lain ang mga abilidad ngaginhatag sa tagsa-tagsa sa aton, kitaisa lang ka lawas bilang lawas niCristo.13 Kay kita tanan, Judio man ukonindi, ulipon ukon hilway,ginbautisohan sa isa lang ka Espirituagod mangin isa ka lawas. P AROCHIAL V ICAR This Sunday, the Sunday after theFeast of the Blessed Trinity is the feastof the Corpus Christi, commonly known in the Western CatholicChurch as the Feast of the Body andBlood of Jesus.The appearance of Corpus Christi asa feast in the Christian calendar wasprimarily due to the 13 th century Augustinian nun Juliana of Lige.Juliana had veneration for the BlessedSacrament and longed for a specialfeast in its honor.

The celebration of the Corpus Christi became widespread in 1263 whenPope Urban IV investigated claims of a Eucharistic miracle at Bolsena, in which a consecrated host began to bleed. In 1264 the papal bull entitledTransiturus de hoc mundoinstituted the feast of the CorpusChristi on Maundy Thursday throughout the entire Latin Rite. TheFeast of Corpus Christi wasestablished to create a feast focusedsolely on the Holy Eucharist.

During the time of St. Thomas

Aquinas he was commissioned to write a new liturgy to be used not only during the Feast of Corpus Christi butalso at events related to the BlessedSacrament. The hymn Aquinascomposed entitled Pange Lingua isalso used on Holy Thursday duringthe procession of the BlessedSacrament to the altar of repose. Thelast two verses of the hymn, theTantum Ergo is also sung atBenediction of the Blessed Sacrament.O Salutaris Hostia another hymnsung at Benediction of the BlessedSacrament makes up the last two verses of Verbum SupernumProdiens , Aquinas hymn for Lauds of Corpus Christi. Aquinas alsocomposed the propers for the Mass of Corpus Christi, including thesequence Lauda Sion Salvatorem .The epistle reading for the Mass wastaken from Pauls First Epistle to theCorinthians (1 Cor 11:23-29), and theGospel reading was taken from the

Johns version of the gospel(Jn 6:56-59).

In 1970, the feast for the Body of Christ held every Thursday afterTrinity Sunday and the Most PreciousBlood of Our Lord Jesus Christ withits feast on July 1 were combined asone and is celebrated every Sunday after the Trinity Sunday.

In the Western Catholic Church, evenin our predominantly Catholic nationthis popular devotion would not becomplete if there is no procession of the Holy Eucharist through thepublic streets of a particular parishfollowed by Benediction of the Blessed

Sacrament. Through the passage of time, however, it seemed that thisCatholic custom was left forgotten.

The practice of processing the Holy Eucharist in the streets of Catholicparishes these recent years is now undergoing a new and revitalizedresurgence in many Catholic nations worldwide. The adoration anddevotion of the Real Presence of Christ in the Holy Eucharist is atpresent experiencing an amazingrenewal. This is visibly seen in thepresence of the Eucharistic chapels in various parishes all around thenation. After the Catholic faithfulreceived the Body and Blood of Jesusin the Holy Communion, they join theprocession into the streets, pausingonce in a while for solemn worship,singing hymns of adoration to theEucharistic Lord enthroned inside theMonstrance.

This procession is a symbol of theenduring redemptive mission of JesusChrist to the world. I have some fondmemories of this beautiful event which stretches back to my early seminary formation in the Semi nary of St. Pius X in Roxas City, Capiz inthe early eighties. Fully of mundanetraining I found myself joining theseannual processions during my seminary training. The Archbishop of Capiz used to lead the processionfrom his residence while holding the

monstrance followed by the priestsof the Archdiocese then by usseminarians and followed last by thelay faithful until we reached theCathedral about two and a half kilometers away.

During the procession the Body of Jesus present in the Holy Eucharistis enthroned in the monstrance,

a sacred vessel made of precious metalfor public worship. This procession or worship is not limited within theconfines of the Church sanctuary butrather it flows into the major street of the parish. Through and by this way we allow our faith to inform andtransform all facets of our lives asCatholic Christians.

In this external act which is thepublic procession, the people arereminded that God loves the worldthat He still sends His Son inperpetuity through us as members of His Sons Body here on earth theChurch. This procession also remindsus of the baptismal calling of every Christian - to carry on the mission of Jesus through the Church until Hisreturn at the end time.

At the interior level, it also stands forthe universal call to sanctity, to acontinuing conversion in Christ. We who were baptized are also called toenter int5o an abiding and realcommunion with the Trinitarian God.Our God comes to dwell within us and we live our lives now in Him by letting Him to reign in all facets of ourlives. This is known as unity of life.

Through the Sacrament of Baptism,our participation in the sacraments,particularly through the Eucharist, wenow abide in God. We live in God and

The whole month of June is devoted to the Sacred Heartof Jesus.

There were four great revelations of the Sacred Heart toSt. Margaret Mary. Four times Christ appeared to herand left in her custody precious secrets, many of which

have been buried with her in the grave. From that small Visitation Convent chapel where our Saint received hereternal Commissions, there has gone out a veritableavalanche of love, of divine piety and of supreme joy.

There has always been Catholic devotion to the SacredHeart. St. Margaret Mary emphasized and developed itsdetails. Christ urged St. Margaret Mary to prophesize thedevotion of the Nine Fridays, the devotion of Communions of Reparation and the devotion of the Holy Hour. For there are faithful especially receiving Holy Communion of the First Friday of nine consecutive

months, the following promises were made:1. I will give them all the graces necessary for their

state of life.

2. I will establish peace in their families.

3. I will console them in all their pains and trials.

4. I will be their assured refuge in life and especially in death.

5. I will shed abundant blessings upon theirundertakings.

6. Sinners will find in my Heart an infinite ocean of mercy.

7. Lukewarm souls will be rendered fervent.

8. Fervent souls shall rise rapidly to greaterperfection.

9. I will bless every house in which an image of Sacred Heart shall be exposed and honoured.

10. I will give to priests the talent of moving thehardest hearts.

11. The names of those who propagate this devotionshall be written in My Heart from which they shallnever be effaced.

12. Publish, and cause it to be published, all over the world, that I will set no limits to My grace for thosesouls that come to seek them in this, My Heart.

With these, we are inviting each and everyone to attendthe Novena everyday before the 6:15 AM mass. TheSolemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus will be onJuly 1, 2011, first Friday of the month.

May the Sacred Heart of Jesus shower us withHis abun dant blessings!

God lives in us, as said. As the monstranceis being carried along the streets of theparish, we carry Him into our home andinto the streets. As we receive His Body andBlood we possess that divine life within us -Jesus life, the life of the Father and that of the Holy Spirit. So, clear are the reasons why

the Feast of the Corpus Christi follows theFeast of the Holy Trinity in our Churchscalendar. It is to show the profoundconnection through the Eucharist we areinvited into a Trinitarian communion andthen sent into the world to bring Jesus sothat all peoples may join us.

This feast is an invitation for us to onceagain affirm our faith in the implications of the Incarnation of Jesus. To a Christian isfundamentally a relational truth.Consequently, however, this reality demands from us a kind of a nonconcomitant life to the world. We mustmake a stand and fight off those temptationsthat lead us to us to choose the banal overthe holy.

It is very clear then that this feast is amystery whose end is to anchor its roots ina very profound manner in all aspects of ourlives. The feast of the Corpus Christi is a gift

to be received and lived by us. AsChristians it is our basic calling to commune with the living and true Triune God. Thisoneness will result into an active day to day meeting with our God who continuously calls us to incessant conversion. Thisconversion happens in every facet of ourlives and in less expected moments like ourinward struggles towards sanctity, in ourtravails and failures, in the midst of problems and anxieties and even in our

pain. The God of love Who knows us muchmore than we know ourselves is justpurifying and refining us just like therefiners fire that refines the gold to be usedin making the many monstrances that willhold the sacred Body of Jesus Christ ourLord.

May the gra ce of this feast fill us withcoura ge to live our baptismal vows asauthentic members of Christs Body here in ear th the Church.
