WOODBERRY DEPTH

TOO MUCH FOR HOST FUMA

A seemingly lonely weekend at FUMA turned into the back drop of perhaps the best Prep League meet ever. FUMA figured to strug-gle against the deeper Tigers of Woodberry Forest in the six team meet. The home team got off to a great start in the field events and weathered many of Woodberry’s better events but in the end succumbed to a seven point defeat. The last time the Blue Devils lost a Prep League Meet on home soil was the 2004 Indoor Championship—to the Tigers. FUMA racked up wins from Clyde Gross (hurdles), Charlton Larkins (throws) and Russ Garver(800). Larkins has been among the more consistent performers on the year. Garver shook off the accelerated schedule in the 800 to claim his first ever title. Freshman Alex Lomong notched a huge personal best in the 400 with a 50.19, a performance that would win most years was good enough for fourth. The show stopper came in the 4x400 where WFS and FUMA both ran 3:24. Unfortu-nately, like the meet the Tigers were just a little ahead.
