Dear Members and Friends, June is always such a busy month with so much going on including the school year ending, graduations, weddings, family reunions, work-related company picnics, and vacations to name just a few. As we move into these summer months, I want to invite you to join us every Sunday morning for worship at either 9:30am for our traditional service in the sanctuary or 11:40am for our contemporary service in the fellowship hall. If you are away on vacation or are unable to attend our worship services on Sunday, please be reminded of our Immersion Service every Wednesday at 7:00pm in the parlor. We had such a wonder- ful celebration for our Preschool on Sunday afternoon, May 18, 2014 at 2:00pm in our fellowship Hall. We celebrated thirty- two years of faithful service both to our Lindenwald Church and the surrounding neighborhood communi- ties. In fact, the total number of students who graduat- ed from our Preschool in those years totaled 3,665. So many, many children received a solid educational foundation through our Preschool’s ministry. We thank especially our Director, Mrs. Jane Dickey, for her outstanding leadership over the course of those thirty-two years. We also wish her well in her retire- ment. My Mother Is A Teacher . . . by Brent Dickey

My mother is a teacher, she lives her life to teach

Who knows how many kids whose lives she got to reach

She loves to teach, and those she taught gave her so much great joy

She remembers so much about each girl and boy.

My mother is a teacher, she lives her life to teach

She tried to teach oh so much but sometimes could not reach

She tried to teach me piano, but I would just laugh and giggle

I would sit upon the piano bench, and fidget, squirm and wiggle

At parties she will want to know, your life story and so much more

She will ask a thousand questions, and block you from the door

She will poke and prod, like the most skillful of physician

You come away having just survived the grand inquisition

The reason she asked so many questions is because she truly cared

She wanted to make sure that, for life you were prepared

The Education and Ministries Trust now has funds

available for grants.

Two kinds of grants can be made. The first is for

projects of almost any kind which advance or facili-

tate the ministries of the church. The second is for

scholarships for non-church related education at

the bachelor’s level or lower.

A completed application is required for any grant

to be considered. Applications are available in the

church office.

A Warm Notes of Thanks . . .

Dear Pastor Val and LUMC,

Thank you very much for the Cheesecake Factory

gift card. I’m sure to enjoy it; that was very nice.

I’ve enjoyed working there at the preschool the past

17 years, always told people it was my “fun” job.

The church staff have all been very friendly. If I

wasn’t already a Lutheran member, I’d definitely

consider Lindenwald. Thanks again!

Sincerely, Chris Allen

Pastor’s Page continued ...

She taught thousands of kids and wanted to fill their lives with fun

And to our total amazement, she remembered each and every one

How could this woman that I could easily pat upon the head

Simply grit her teeth and glare at me and fill me with such dread

She is a rock and on her convictions will not sway

She will always say to get things done “if there’s a will there is a way”

My mother is a teacher, she lives her life to teach

I’m so very proud of her, but I’m not here to give a speech

She taught so many great lessons and at times her words were few

But the greatest lesson she ever taught was “I love you”

Thanks, Brent, for such a beautiful poem!

See you in church this summer! The following items are needed for our Lindenwald

Feeding the Body & Soul Community Meal offers a free

meal to those who may be hungry and have no food.

This meal is free and open to the public and will be

served on the third Saturday of each month from

5:00pm to 6:30pm.

Our food pantry is also open during those same hours

and bags of groceries are given to those in attend-

ance.

If transportation is an issue and you live within the

limits of Butler County, Ohio, we will arrange to have

our church van pick you up and take you home.

Prayer Drive ThruPrayer Drive ThruPrayer Drive Thru

What’s a Prayer Drive Thru, you ask? Well, it’s

kinda like a regular drive thru, except in place of

the soft drinks and snack items, we offer prayer.

We open our parking lot to our community for

drive thru prayer. As you're driving home on that

evening, stop in and our prayer team will listen

to your request and pray with you.

The next Prayer Drive Thru will be on Thursday,

June 19, 2014 from 4:30 to 6:00pm.

Volunteers are always needed to help with the

drive thru. Call Pastor Val (863-8822) if you’d

like to help.

their continued service as Song Leader at the 9:30 a.m.

worship service.

I’d like to thank everyone who

voted for me to be the honorary

bat girl at the Reds Mother’s

Day game. It was an honor and

lots of fun to be nominated.

They chose a couple, Patty Stump and Mike

Schroder. They were very deserving winners.

Thanks again and God Bless you all,

Phyllis Scales

To LUMC,

The men’s group gave me a beautiful folding Christ-

mas card. It features Charlie Brown, Peanuts the dog,

the piano player, and the girl pitcher, who is great

on the pitcher’s plate.

On my desk is this Christmas Card signed by all in

the group, and each day I see a name that reminds

me of a face and happy days to be remembered.

Celebrating Father’s Day ~ June 15, 2014

If you’re blessed with a dad you admire and respect,

how would it affect your life to make such a decision?

Would you be inspired to set sound priorities, live with

integrity, be a positive role model to the young people

you influence? For all of us — children of the only

perfect Father — may our prayer and intent be:

God, while earthly fathers are a mix of strengths and

flaws, you give yourself to us as our heavenly Father,

wholly loving, kind and passionate about our best

interests. May we, in turn, seek to reflect positively on

you. May my life spread far and wide your love, kind-

ness and passion for the best interests of all, and may

others see you in me. Amen.

Renowned actor Sidney

Poitier once said, “I decided

in my life that I would do

nothing that did not reflect

positively on my father’s

life.”

Come Celebrate With Us!

Join us here at our Lindenwald Church on

Sunday, June 15 at both the 9:30am and

11:40am worship services when we will

celebrate Father’s Day . . . a day to honor

our earthly fathers and father figures as

well as our heavenly Father.

Thank You For Your Music Ministry

On behalf of our Lindenwald Church, I want to

express my heartfelt appreciation to our wonder-

ful Choir, our Choir Director, Charlene Elam, and

our organist, Nancy McCormick for their faithful-

ness in serving the Lord through the year.

We are all grateful for their leadership and their

dedication in our worship services as God uses

them each Sunday to inspire us through their mu-

sic and song. We will miss the Choir’s music min-

istry this summer, but we look forward to their

participation in our worship services again in the

fall. Again, thank you for serving he Lord!

Greetings from Teen Guard

Director, Tony Brown …

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing

them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the

Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have

commanded of you. And surely I am with you always, to

the very end of the age.” ~ Matthew 28:19-20

This passage is the theme for the Youth Conference that 14 of our youth will attend June 13-15 at

Lakeside, Ohio.

In this passage, Jesus is commissioning the disciples to make all people disciples of His Good News …

Not who we choose, or who we like, or who we think are acceptable … all people! Jesus is asking us

to drop our preferences and to open our minds and hearts to everyone. What a theme for our youth.

Every day teens in this world are subject to conforming to their peers in order to be accepted.

I believe teens should be transforming their lives so that they can understand “diversity” and learn

to love all for who they are and not what they want people to be like.

Also in this passage, Jesus uses the word always. “And surely I am with you always” … What does

this mean to a teens life? Most teens feel Jesus in their lives only when they attend youth group,

services, or anything affiliated with the church. It is important that teens understand that the triune

God is always with them, not just at church, or when they pray, or when convenient for them … but

always. Likewise, our teens need to understand that they are a reflection of Jesus always. You

cannot turn off that reflection to fit in or look cool, a true disciple of Jesus understands that their

reflection button always has to be on.

I look forward to experiencing this conference with our youth and to seeing the impact it has on

their lives. If you see a youth after June 15, ask them what the conference meant to them!

Teen Guard will have three summer sessions on July 2, 16, and 30 … The topics for these nights

respectively are Peace, Joy, and Love. If you know of any teens that would like to share their Jesus

stories and would like to apply Jesus to their lives, invite them attend these sessions from 5:15 –

7:00 (Dinner is served 6:30 – 7:00pm).

I look forward to giving the message at Sunday services on June 29 and hope that all of our lives

continue on a path of righteousness through Jesus Christ. God Bless!
