2. WINDOWS 8.1 DEPLOYMENT METHODS

2.1 REFRESH SCENARIO

Similar to a new installation, the refresh scenario performs a clean setup. The difference is that the

target computer already contains Windows, for which files and settings will be preserved. This

scenario is especially useful in the event that preserving the user state is a priority.

3. Refresh Installation Procedure

3.1 Press the Start button and type the following: software

Note that Software Center appears in the search results.

3.2 Select Software Center

3.3 In Software Center tick the box “Sanlam Group – Windows Diskpart” and select

Install Selected

If the Computer being refreshed contains one partition continue from step 3.6

Windows Diskpart will now convert the Windows 7 system partition into one. The c:\ and d:\ drive

will now be converted into one drive.

3.4 Note that the Sanlam Group – Windows Diskpart status is shown as installed

3.5 Go to My Computer and confirm that the drive has been converted successfully into

one drive.

3.6 Go to Software Center (as shown in 3.1 & 3.2) and tick the box and select Install

Selected.

Note that on the Available Software tab Windows 8.1 Update 1 is now ready for installation.

PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF THE FOLLOWING:

3.9 The Installation of Windows 8.1 Update 1 will take several hours to install. It also

depends on what Software is linked to the users profile on SPS. After the installation

you will be greeted with the New Windows 8.1 logon screen. The installation can

take approximately 4-6 hours.

This concludes the installation procedure.
