Why Security Window Films are a must

for Schools

Higher numbers always don’t denote positivity as is the case with shooting incidents that have

happened in US schools in the past one and a half decade. The number is a whooping 160 total incidents

and the mortality caused by them is not pleasant to be recounted or remembered. The victims are

mostly innocent young kids brimming with life but sadly put to sleep without any cause or reason. Sadly

the culprits can still come but is there any reason for the innocent souls to suffer? Although school

shooting incidents are nothing new as they have been happening since past two centuries but the

incidents have increased in an unprecedented manner in the past two decades. The reasons and causes

are the matters of evaluation for psychologists and criminologists but what about the people who suffer

from such incidents and are left to brood for rest of their lives.

Rise in Consciousness

Upgrading school security is a matter of great concern and the government has taken it seriously after

the Sandy Hook Elementary School incidents. The incident shook the government and school authorities

together and steps have been taken towards ensuring the school safety by installing monitoring

cameras, card reading entry system and security window films for better school protection. Funds are

being allocated and resources are getting mobilized slowly and gradually.

The Main Factor - Access Control

Access control can be one of the biggest deterrent for such incidents in which the culprit cannot gain

access in the premises till the help arrives. It usually takes 3-8 minutes for the police to arrive after

getting information to such incidents so if the culprit cannot gain access in the premises for that long

many casualties can be averted. Also blind firings are the main reason of higher number of casualties

which can be defended only if the windows and entrance glass doors provide any sustained resistance.

If the windows and the glass doors provide ample shield even for few minutes the children can be

secured in a place where they can remain safe till the first responders arrive for help.

Action on the ground

After the government took the initiative of helping the schools in bracing themselves well against such

dangers by securing the entry, many schools have taken the right decision of installing security window

films on the entrance doors and windows till the first floor of their building so that any burst firing can

be handled in time.

Many more schools are following suit. Installing security window films is also a right decision because

the other alternative of installing bullet proof glasses is not only very expensive and unaffordable for

many schools but also very time taking. The main advantage of security window films is that it gives just

enough response time to the school authorities to take action to save many precious lives.

give you time to run

No protection cover can hold forever even the forts couldn’t do so. The main motive is to show

preparedness which wasn’t there for a very long time and sadly it took a shock affect like the Sandy

Hook Elementary school incident. However installing security window films gives one more added

advantage. It protects casualties resulting from shattering of glass doors and window frames during

storms and cyclones which are more frequent than shooting and cause more damage comparatively but

never garner news, sympathy and counter measure as they are beyond human control. But nevertheless

they also cause a considerable damage which can be substantially reduced if security window films are

used over the window panes and this process is not only easy and quick but also very cost effective.

Conclusion

If priorities are to be consider then nothing could be more important than the ensuring the protection of

young innocent kids who are oblivious to all such threats and come to schools with complete trust and

assurance that they have come to gain knowledge and lose nothing and they should have no reason to

think otherwise. School safety and access control is the duty of the government and school authorities

and the ones who have not started taking appropriate measures must start upgrading school security

for better protection against all such threats and at least brace for the known and repeated ones.
