Window coverings help control the environment in a home. They regulate the amount of light, muffle noise, insulate, and provide privacy.

Pleated Shades Solid fabric that folds into

horizon tonal accordion pleats which are raised or lowered with cords – usually solid

folds horizontally in pleats when raised – made of fabric

down but pulls up into scallops – can also be stationary with scallops

Can be used alone or with curtains or draperies

Roller ShadesMaterial is hung on a roller with a spring mechanism at the top of the window and is pulled down to close

Austrian ShadesFabric shade that is gathered in scallops when pulled down – when pulled up scallops become tighter at bottom

Blinds

Window coverings made of a series of evenly spaced slats that may be opened or closed by cords

or plastic which hand horizontally from a track which can be drawn up

Vertical blinds Wide slats of wood, metal

or plastic that are hung vertically from a track and are drawn to one side
