Introduction Political objective of the EU is the increased

exploitation of RES. White Report - EU members double RES in

energy consume by 2010 (whole Union about 12 %).

CR committed to produce 8 % of energy from RES in 2010.

Principle of Magnus effect

Bernoulli's principle - the pressure is lower on the side where the velocity is greater, there is an unbalanced force - Magnus force.

Wind tunnel - models, separate rotating and non-rotating cylinders.

Calculating methods developed. Most repeated velocities 2 - 6 m.s-1 (blade turbines are

not effective). Working range - 2 - 40 m.s-1 (5 - 25 m.s-1 blade).

Energy generation and daily working period are increased in 2 times and greater.

Optimum power range is 30 - 500 kW; maximum is up to 2 MW at a wind wheel diameter 15 - 50 m.

The experiment plant is in Ogata, Japan - proof of efficiency of a Magnus Windmill.

Magnus Windmill is better than propeller type - power generation efficiency and cheaper construction cost.

Magnus wind turbine can be used in a wide range of wind velocities including storm winds.
