The Wilson County fce Best of the Best award was given to Ms. Ina Neal of the Tuckers Crossroads fce Club. Ina has been a long time member focused on making her community better through a variety of service projects. The Best of the Best award recognizes and honors outstanding members of TAFCE who have given over and beyond the norm in the performance of du- ties as a volunteer, through unselfish acts for the betterment of their community. Penny West, Tuckers Crossroads fce Club, was the recipient of the Heart of fce award. This award is a national recognition that pays special tribute to the unsung grassroots members who have made a difference in their communities through their fce work. Penny was chosen because of her dedication to various projects that have made a significant difference in Wilson County and Tennessee. I am proud of all our Wilson County fce members and the contri- butions you make on a daily basis to our community. Wilson County fce Awards Presented at Annual Luncheon
The annual fce luncheon took place on Friday, May 11, 2018 at the James E. Ward Ag Center in Lebanon hosted by the Green Hill fce Club.
Two prestigious awards were presented to two deserving Wilson County fce members.
The Wilson County fce Best of the Best award was given to Ms. Ina Neal of the Tuckers Crossroads fce Club. Robin George Completes FCL Training
Congratulations to Robin George for completing the Fami-ly Community Leadership (FCL) Training held by the TAFCE in Lebanon. FCL is an educational program jointly sponsored by TAFCE and UT Extension. This program of-fers leadership workshops to prepare participants for in-volvement in public policy decision making affecting fami-lies and communities. We are so proud of you, Robin! Great Job!!
Summer Sun Protection
Limit sun exposure between the hours of 10am and 4pm, when the sun is the strongest.
Wear a wide-brimmed hat to protect the face, neck and ears. Apply about a palm full of sunscreen with protection factor (SPF) 15 or higher
to dry skin 30 minutes before going into the sun. Check with your doctor to see if the medications you are taking will interact
with sun exposure. Stay hydrated!

It does seem that Summer sure is coming. I want to thank everyone for your calls, cards and prayers during my recovery. I enjoyed seeing many of you at the annual luncheon and am looking forward to seeing all the members again real soon.
Lets not forget to make plans to attend the Preemie Quilt Workshop scheduled for Friday, June 15th from 9am to 3pm in the Gentry Building at the James E. Ward Ag Center. Please call Shelly at 615-444-9584 to RSVP. This will be a great way to make something new to enter into the fair.

Hello fce Friends….
The signs of summer are always welcomed. I look
forward to summer and getting out of the cold
weather clothes. I also look forward to gardening,
more hours of daylight and the abundance of local-
ly produced fruits and vegetables.
Many conversations have been started with weath-
er and concerns or observations about the weath-
er. It seems everyone has weather in common.
Our weather this year has given us lots to talk
about as we have experienced warm and cold and
then warm and then cold and even snow on April
16. We have had lots of rain. The redbuds have
bloomed, the dogwoods are blooming now and the
black locust trees are beginning to bloom. I have
also seen some beautiful azaleas blooming. I am
looking forward to spring honey as my 2017 supply
is getting low.
A spring/summer beauty is the strawberry. US
grown strawberries have been available at the gro-
cery for some time now, but locally grown straw-
berry availability is just around the corner. Straw-
berries are lauded for their nutritional and health
benefits. They say they are good for the immune
system, are high in antioxidants and vitamins and
even saw one claim that they reduce the signs of
premature aging. WOW, bring on the strawberries!!
Strawberry producers have had lots of challenges
this year. An overabundance of water, weather pat-
terns that caused sleepless nights with concerns of
freezing temperatures and some warm days that
hastened blooming. Hopefully we will have an
abundance of locally grown strawberries. I encour-
age you to look for and support locally grown
whenever possible. Happy Summer to all.

Community Bean Supper
News from Cedar Hill fce Club
Our Cedar Hill club recently took part in the yearly “Books from Birth” fundraiser on April 12, 2018 at the Wilson Coun-ty Expo Center. We bought a table of nine. Our theme was 101 Dalmatians, which consisted of Barbara Bell, Delores Butler, Amelia Gibson, Judy Dyer, Faye Williams, Patri-cia Kopp, Cathy Maggart, Linda Partlow and Georgia
Franklin going as Cruella de Vil.
We had a lovely table made up of 101 Dalmatian artifacts! Everyone met at Georgia’s house where Georgia’s sister, Virginia Edwards and niece, Stephanie Hollis McCaleb made up our faces! This was truly an inspirational evening, seeing the many tables made up as different books, different peo-ple giving testimonies concerning this wonderful cause! Our club won the “Most Whimsical Creation” award at the 2018 Wilson Books from Borth Imagination Dinner! News from Tuckers Crossroads fce Club
Tuckers Cross Roads is so excited about all the new things, going on in our club. We have new members. Our county fce president came to visit our meeting. {Thank you, Mrs. Dorothy}. We have a crafts day scheduled for May and June. We had several members participate in ceramic painting, which we can enter in cultural arts at the Wil-son County Fair.

The Oakland fce Club members would like to invite you all to a Community Bean Sup-per at Friendship Christian School (5400 Coles Ferry Pike) on Friday, July 20, 2018 at 6:00 PM. Beans and Dessert is $5.00, Children 5 and under are Free. There will also be a dessert auction and door prizes!!

Congratulations! Dacio Carter is the 2018 Wilson County fce Character
Counts winner. Dacio attends Water-town Elementary School. His award
was presented to him at his church on Sunday, March 11, 2018 by Penny
West, Wilson County fce Vice President.

Dorothy Dunn is our current Wilson County fce President and was a member of the Carroll fce Club before it disbanded. Mrs. Dorothy's super power is love. The love she has for everyone and her boundless energy for details for any task make her a Wonder Club Woman for sure. She will always give you a tap on the shoulder when you need it. Mrs. Dorothy is my Super Hero. Love you, Mrs. Dorothy. P.S. Thanks for the tap!
Frances Baker has been the President of the Leeville fce Club for the past 5 years. She is a recent County fce Presi-dent and has participated in numerous fce sponsored events and activities including the hand gun per-mit class and the Self-Defense class. She is the current chair-man of the Adult Family and Consumer Sciences Department at the Wilson County Fair and participated in the Caps for Cancer and Angel Gown projects. She was the captain of our Walk Across Tennessee team and is a member of the Wilson County Fair Board. She also serves on the Senior Mrs. Wilson County Pageant and works on the state contest. She is a wonderful as-set to our club and we (as members) are proud to have her as our President. Her mother and grandmother were both mem-bers of fce She is our Wonder Club Woman!
Penny West is a member of the Tuckers Crossroads fce Club and also serves as our club Secretary. There’s not a lot that Penny doesn’t do. She works tirelessly to help others in need and comes up with exciting ways to get others in-volved. She is the current Vice President for our county fce program and head up the Angel Gown project among many others. She is currently working hard to make the Sampler Quilt Competition at the fair a legacy project with a college scholarship on the horizon. She recently completed the Mas-ter Gardener Intern class, became a Beekeeper and was rec-ognized as a nominee for the Governor’s Volunteer Stars award program through the county mayor’s office. We are proud to have Penny as part of our club. We love learning from her and with her as she demonstrates what is to be our Wonder Club Woman.

two fce sponsored contests for fce members only. If you

Certified Master Gardeners will be at the Extension office on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9am to 11am. They can help with all your gardening questions!
It’s almost Summer! My name is Lucas Holman and I am the new Horticul-ture Extension Agent for Wilson County. Anytime you have issues with your lawns, fruits, vegetables, or any plant, feel free to give me a call. Right now is an excel-lent time to start watching for any insect, disease, or pathogen that can affect any of our plants. This can be done by visually looking at the plants on a regular ba-sis. The best way to fix the problem is to catch the problem early! Periods of rain coupled with the high humidity that we are so blessed with in Tennessee can cause quite a few fungal issues. Before you spray a general pesticide, be sure to spray the right stuff for the right situation! Contact me if you’ve got any disease, insect, or any pathogens that are sneaking around in your yard!
Overnight Oatmeal with Berries A mixture of milk, yogurt and raspberries combine with dry oats to become a smooth
make-ahead breakfast. Just mix and refrigerate overnight for the next day. Ingredients 1/2 cup low-fat milk 1/4 cup Greek yogurt, fat-free 2 teaspoons honey 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract 1/2 cup uncooked rolled oats 1/4 cup raspberries, frozen Directions Combine all ingredients (save berries for last) in a container or jar with lid. Gently fold in raspberries. Cover and refrigerate 8 hours to overnight. Enjoy cold or hear as desired. Source: https://whatscooking.fns.usa.gov
