Station Construction Adjacent to BNSF
FasTracks, with over 26 miles of shared use corridors, challenged RTD to resolve several key issues
BNSF was asked to
accommodate commuter
rail service in several
communities; the result was
establishment of its
“Commuter Principles”.
Railroad right-of-way’s provide contiguous linear corridors between communities which may provide the ideal situation for transit expansion. These corridors are the life-blood of an established interstate commerce network for the freight railroads and shared use must be carefully implemented.
The presentation focuses on the interactions and processes involved in the implementation of the Eagle P3 FasTracks project from the perspective of the freight railroad. Attendees will learn the processes utilized, challenges overcome, opportunities presented, and lessons learned throughout the planning, design, and construction phases of the RTD program.
