Texas 4-H Outdoor Challenge
Williamson County was represented by two teams at the Texas 4-H Outdoor Challenge Competition held at the beautiful facilities of Collin County YMCA Adventure Camp. Our junior all-male team consisted of Cason and Sterling. Our senior all-female team consisted of Heather and Mandy. With the exception of Mandy, all of our participants were new to this event. The teams met several times before the event to practice and learn new skills. The competition consisted of a full 1 ½ days of both mental and physical events, in-cluding, archery, rifle, first aid, biological skills, wildlife identification, gear judging, shot-gun, knot-tying, canoeing, and fishing.
Our junior all-male team brought home 2nd place and a pair of BB Target Traps. Our senior all-female team brought home 1st place for the second year in a row. Everyone had a great time! Please watch for details on next year’s event to be posted on the 4-H website at: http://texas4-h.tamu.edu/outdoor

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: The Wolf Ranch Farmer's Market will be each Satur-day from 9 - 1 and they have invited us to have a booth there. What a great opportunity for 4-H promotion in our community! We need 4-Her's to volunteer to work the booth from 9 - 11 or 11 - 1. We will have promotional give away items and the 4-H brochure to hand out as we tell people about 4-H in general and our club in particular. The thought is to rotate among 4-H clubs so that our club would do it once maybe twice a month depending on what we want to do as a club. Chase Heffernan is organizing this project please contact the Extension Office 512-943-3300 to see how you or your club can help him and get involved with this. Here is the link to view more about the farmers market: http://www.wolfranchfarmersmarket.com/
The State Fair of Texas is a celebration of Texas culture. And there is no
place better to learn about agriculture and Texas heritage than a walk
through the Livestock barns. Watch for Liberty Hill 4-Her Madison
Woolery with her pig Olaf pictured here .
4-H and FFA have been involved in character education for more than 100 years. Quality Counts is our way of showcasing this character education and at the same time showing our commitment to producing a safe and wholesome livestock product for the consumer. Verification of Quality Counts is a natural extension of this effort to demonstrate that 4-H and FFA youth have a base knowledge of the principles of quality assurance and good moral character. Now and in the near future many local and major livestock shows will require that a youth exhibitor demonstrate this base knowledge by taking the online Quality Counts Verification test and obtaining a Verification Number. This can be accomplished through this web site! http://agrilife.org/qualitycounts/
