He was actually a major English Romantic poet who, with Samuel Taylor Coleridge, helped to launch the Romantic Age in English literature with the 1798 joint publication Lyrical Ballads.

He was also Britain’s Poet Laureate, a poet officially appointed by a government and is often expected to compose poems for state occasions and other government events, for seven years.

British Poet Born April 7, 1770 in Cockermouth, Cumberland, in the Lake District

Continued his studies at Cambridge University.

He made his debut as a writer in 1787, when he published a sonnet in The European Magazine.

Same year he entered St. John’s College, Cambridge, from where he took his B.A. in 1791.

In 1795 he met Coleridge. Wordsworth composed his

masterwork, Lyrical Ballads, which opened with Coleridge’s “Ancient Mariner”

In 1798, he started to write a large and philosophical autobiographical poem.

He wrote several poems , including the enigmatic ‘Lucy’ poems.

1802 he married Mary Hutchinson

He was appointed official distributor of stamps for Westmoreland.

he spent the rest of his life in Rydal Mount, Ambleside

Wordsworth died on April 23, 1850.

The Interpretation of his poem:

a poem about a girl named Lucy.

No one admired her and no one gives her credit.

She lives a normal life.

“She dwelt among the untrodden ways

Beside the springs of Dove.

A Maid whom there were none to praise

And very few to love.”

1st Stanza:

“ A violet by a mossy stone

Half hidden from the eye!

Fair as a star, when only one

Is shining in the sky”

 she shines and she's beautiful but only fairly when compared to others

2nd Stanza:

“She lived unknown, and a few could know

When Lucy ceased to be;

But she is in her grave, and, oh,

The difference to me!”

only some knew her existence

the poet expressed his feeling about her death

3rd Stanza:

This poem is written in laments of the loss of a loved one. This loved one is named Lucy by the poet. In this poem, it is expressed that Lucy is an unpopular beautiful girl. People see her plain and usual, but for the writer she is as shiny as any star. The poet also expressed that beyond the view of any people, Lucy is way more special. Her death cause pain to the poet and others may not care, but there is such difference on how the poet feels.

William Wordsworth was an influential British Poet because he contributed a lot of masterpieces and masterworks in the field of poetry. Being an orphan at the age of 13 was not a hindrance to him to reach his goals and dreams in life, instead he used it as an inspiration to make his life better together wit his beloved and neurotic sister Dorothy. Lyrical Ballad was his first masterpiece that gives a lot of privilages to him as a poet. In the following years he started to write large and philosophical poems. William Wordsworth made a big impact in the field of poetry and was a successful poet during his time and became a patriotic, conservative public man.
