Summer School Food Service Fact Sheet
Where
Breakfast and lunch will be served by cashiers on site in the cafeteria. Sequoia is the exception,
their breakfast and lunch will be delivered.
When
Breakfast will be served starting 30 minutes before school until the bell rings to begin school.
Lunch will be served during brunch time.
What
For breakfast, students will be able to choose between cold cereal or a rotating hot entrée. All
students who receive a breakfast are required to take some type of fruit (whole fruit, cupped
fruit, or fruit juice) and are offered milk.
For lunch, students will be able to choose between our daily offerings such as cheeseburgers,
chicken sandwiches, salads, deli sandwiches, or rotating hot entrées. Student who receive lunch
are required to take a fruit and/or vegetable with their meal and are offered milk.
Students will also have the opportunity to buy snacks and beverages that are compliant with
the Smart Snack federal regulations. All food sold on campus must be compliant with the Smart
Snacks federal regulations.
Who
All students will be able to receive food in the cafeteria. The computers are programmed so all
students in the district are visible at every serving line during summer school. All students who
were eligible in the 14/15 SY at the William S. Hart UHSD for free or reduced price
breakfast/lunch will be able to receive their free or reduced price breakfast/lunch during
summer school. If a student from outside the school district is interested in the free/reduced
priced meal program, they can be directed to the district website to get an application and turn
it into Monica Kirk at the district office.
A Few Things to Keep in Mind
During summer school we are still on the National School Lunch Program which means we must
follow all state and federal regulations. Food Service is here to feed healthy meals to all of the
hungry students on campus during the school day. All Smart Snacks regulations apply to any
food sold on campus during the school day, which is defined as from midnight to 30 minutes
after the last class is excused.
Please let the cafeteria know if there will be any special events during brunch. If it involves food
then we won’t make as much food, which cuts back on waste. If the students will be busy until
the end of brunch then we will make arrangements to accommodate. Most activities on
campus will usually affect a student’s eating habits and we would like to take that into
consideration when figuring how much food to make for the day.
