Child Soldiers William Landaw Child soldier’s are a sad fact that our world has to contend with. In fact, it has been found that child soldier’s participation is at 75% of the armed conflicts all over the world. There might not be exact figures on the number of child soldiers, but it has been estimated that there are more than 33,000. The ratio of the children to adult soldiers is 1 in every 10. These child soldiers can be as young as 8 years old. Child soldier’s presence in the armed forces is due to their vulnerability to any influence. Children are immature when it comes to their emotional and physical attributes. Because of their naivety, they are more prone to hardcore and extreme influences. They are easily manipulated. Forcible abductions, sometimes of large numbers of children, continue to occur in some countries. Refugees who are poor, orphaned, and separated are at a higher risk of being manipulated into recruitment for the armed forces. Others may be promised food or security.
