Challenge: To intensify, diversify and expand further offshore economic activities in Europe‘s seas

Means: developing larger scale activities offshore by overcoming technological and non-technological challenges and using the most promising and sustainable business models

One approach is to combine different activities at the same location

Aims and Objectives

INVESTMENT Use the consortium’s diverse network to introduce project stakeholders to key

advisors and potential investors.

CHALLENGES Provide information on the socio-economic context and the key technical and

non-technical challenges facing these projects based in part on lifecycle

learning.

OPPORTUNITIES Identify opportunities for Blue Growth sectors to combine with other sectors via

multi-use of space or in multi-use platforms and assist in the development of the

most promising projects within these combinations. Took recently EU funded

projects such as those under Oceans of Tomorrow as a starting point.

Albatern is working with AquaBioTech investigating the potential of wave energy technology providing power to an aquaculture farm in the Mediterranean basin.

JJ Campbell & Associates engineering firm is working with the Centre for Renewable Energy in Dundalk to develop an integrated floating wind and wave platform for a project Atlantic.

Floating Power Plant (FFP) developing a multi-use platform combining wind and wave technology for a project in the Atlantic. The company is entering the commercialisation stage, based on over 8 years of R&D, testing and business development. FPP has successfully operated a half scale offshore prototype for over 2 years – making FPP the only company in the world that have successfully provided power to the grid from wave and wind at the same time. The company is backed by 156 private shareholders and leading industrial development partners.
