New Online System

CISD is excited to announce an online student registration/data validation system for the upcoming

school year, powered by InfoSnap. The system is a secure and green process which allows the district

to verify all student demographic, emergency and medical information for your child prior to the start

of the new school year. This first year, you will need to enter information that we do not currently

have in digital form, such as your student’s Health Information form. This online process replaces all

the hard copy student registration forms that your child brings home on the first day of school.

When it is time to fill out the online forms, you will receive an email from the Conroe Independent

School District with instructions on how to access the system for your student. The email will contain a

link and a secure “snapcode” that links directly to your student’s information. You will create an

account, that you will use each year for this process, and submit a form for each student in your family.

To make the process easier for families with multiple students, you will have the option to copy all

generic family information to all other students in your family.

We would appreciate all the families to take action and complete these forms as soon as possible after

receiving the letter/email. Your student’s registration will not be complete until the forms have been

submitted. If you do not have access to the internet there will be computers available at the school to

complete the forms. We are very excited to bring this new process to the district. We believe that you

will find it a much easier way to update your student’s information each year.

Knowing Where Your Child is After School

When you are a parent/guardian seeing your child come home from school is an exciting time. Our goal

is to ensure your child comes home each and every day at the time you expect and through the

method you anticipate. We care and want to ensure everyone is reunited appropriately, whether it be

by bus, bike, car, or walking. Every day we have over 700 children arrive home just as the plan was

meant to be. But, on an almost weekly basis we have a situation where a child chose an alternative

plan on his/her own after school without alerting a parent or guardian. Please echo our suggestions we

make to our kids to ensure your child notifies a parent or guardian if the child unilaterally decides to

change his/her plans. We have a phone available for free use by students in the front office all day

every day until 4:30 p.m. There are many dangers associated with students having cell phones and by

no means are they required. However, late in the afternoon or early in the evening cell phones are a

great tool to find your child when otherwise it may be next to impossible for anyone, including us. Also,

some devices have the ability to be located by a parent or guardian to narrow down the location of the

phone and presumably the child.

Use of Photo and Video in Areas of Which There is an Expectation of Privacy

Our campus cares deeply about all of our students and works very hard to educate and protect them.

Across the country the presence of smartphone technology in the hands of young people presents the

opportunity for our students, your children, to suffer serious and potentially lifelong consequences as

an offender and/or a victim. Issues associated with students taking/sending improper pictures or

recordings continue to dominate both local, state, and national news. Our goal is to keep all students

safe and free from harm caused by inappropriate phone/camera use. To protect your child, our

campus strongly recommends that you, as a parent or guardian, share with your child the below

information about several Texas laws that apply to this issue.

Page 3: Wilkerson Weekly Update 5-12-17wilkerson.conroeisd.net/.../43/2017/05/WWUpdate-5-12-17.pdf2017/05/12  · Wilkerson Weekly Update – 5/12/17 5/16 – 5th Grade SS Benchmark 5/16 –

INVASIVE VISUAL RECORDING

Photographing or videotaping another person in an area where the person being recorded expects

privacy (like a bathroom) or, when a person electronically sends a photo or video that shows someone

in an area that is expected to be private IS a crime. Nudity does not have to be depicted in the photo or

video for this to be a crime. Texas Penal Code §21.15

ELECTRONIC TRANSMISSION OF CERTAIN VISUAL MATERIAL DEPICTING MINOR

Electronically sending pictures or video that shows minors in sexual conduct, including nudity, or being

in possession of these material can be a criminal offense. Texas Penal Code §43.621

Social Media Info All Parents/Guardians Need to Know to Ensure Children are Healthy and Safe

The information below is very important if you are the parent or guardian of a child who has access

to the internet via phone, your home, or at a friend’s house. Our goal is to help ensure all of our

children are happy, healthy, and safe. The information below is being shared because it is overtaking

the lives of our students and much of what we do administratively each day on campus. We want to

inform, help, and assist in preventing family stress as much as possible.

Our campus and every other school has no control over student social media accounts or the internet.

We have no ability to delete a social media account of individual students including their Instagram,

Snapchat, Vine, Twitter, or any other platform. We can enact school consequences if the inappropriate

posting can be proven to have occurred on campus or if it interferes with campus operations.

Depending on the situation, criminal charges may be filed and if you believe threatening online

postings have occurred the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department has jurisdiction.

This sounds simple, but the single best way for your child not to receive negative posts or be

involved with potential online bullying is for them to not have a social media account. We realize

that is not popular or probable. Furthermore, if as a parent/guardian you want to ensure your child is

not involved in online bullying on either end it is important to have access to their real social media

accounts and the private area of each. These accounts often look very different once you enter the

private realm reserved only for those invited to the account. Often times the public area is purposefully

misleading or mundane.

We will try to help should an outside of school bullying situation exist. This is something we do

routinely to help children. Please note in advance we have no jurisdiction over outside of school online

virtual worlds or the real world.

Young people live much of their lives through these virtual worlds. It cannot be overstated how

important phones and social networks are to our kids nor can I overemphasize how many problems

they create for schools, including us.

We deal with arguments, hurt feelings and conflict on a regular basis. Our staff and administration go

to exhaustive lengths to intervene, counsel, and do everything possible to prevent these. In the

majority of these incidents the catalyst for it involved social media. If you have concerns about a

potential situation we constantly encourage our students to call the C.I.S.D. anonymous tip line at 1-

888-KIDCHAT. Our goal is to prevent problems. Students can also come at any time to any staff

member with a concern.

Page 4: Wilkerson Weekly Update 5-12-17wilkerson.conroeisd.net/.../43/2017/05/WWUpdate-5-12-17.pdf2017/05/12  · Wilkerson Weekly Update – 5/12/17 5/16 – 5th Grade SS Benchmark 5/16 –

On a somewhat related subject note almost daily there are faux accounts that are created to mimic

legitimate individual accounts. Additionally, many students create faux accounts to confuse or mislead

parents and guardians. It happens constantly. Thank you for taking the time to read this. It is a great

day and age to be a young person. Our goal is to help you make it the best life possible for your child.

We care.

Student Emotional Health and Suicide Prevention

Our staff care deeply about the emotional health of our students. Young people undergo a lot of stress

due to expectations both real and perceived. We work hard to counsel and encourage students who

need emotional guidance. If you have a child you are concerned about please contact us staff to

update as needed. When we have concerns we will work hard to let you know also. If your child has a

concern about another individual please encourage them to let one of us know so that we can be

aware and assist.

News from the Nurse~

We often get questions about head lice. Although only considered a pest, not a disease, a case can cause great

anxiety and fear for impacted families. If you would like more information on prevention or treatment, please

see the attached flyer.

Immunization Requirements for 6th grade students entering 7th grade in 2016

Forget Something?

We offer a drop off table in the Front Office where student lunches, instruments, work or other

forgotten items can be dropped off. Due to the high volume of Front Office traffic and the multiple

interruptions to instruction, we are unable to call into classrooms to notify teachers that items have

been delivered. Students will be allowed to come to the front throughout the day (with a pass from

their teacher) to check for items if they anticipate a drop off.

Moving?

If you are relocating to another school, especially outside of Conroe ISD, it is very important that you

notify our Registrar, Mrs. Figueroa, in advance and complete the required withdrawal forms. Please

contact her by phone at 832-592-8928 or email at [email protected] if you have any

questions.

Attendance Policy and Reminders

All students are subject to compulsory attendance laws. (Texas Education Code 25.085) Your child must be in

attendance a minimum of 90% of the school year. This means a child is allowed no more than 18 absences in a

year, and no more than 9 absences in a semester.

1. Students may enter the building at 8:00am. They are dismissed to the classroom at 8:35am for

announcements and beginning of the day preparation. The Tardy Bell rings at 8:50am and instruction

begins at that time. If a student is not in the building by 8:50, they are counted tardy. If a student

arrives after 10:00 am, he/she is counted absent for the day.

2. After 8:50, a parent should accompany the child into the building to document the reason for the tardy

at the front desk. It is the parent’s responsibility to sign-in the student. Students with excessive tardies

or early dismissals may be subject to administrative action.

3. All absences, whether Excused or Unexcused count as an Absence on attendance records and report

cards. For an absence to be considered excused, a note or phone call explaining each absence is

required. When a child is leaves school and returns on the same day, or is tardy, but arrives to school on

the same day due to a dental or medical appointment, and a note from the physician is provided to the

school, then the absence is coded “Health Care Provider (HCP)” and is not reported as an absence on the

report card. If an illness results in absences longer than three days, a note from a health care provider is

requested.

Texas Education Agency requires Wilkerson Intermediate to comply with attendance laws. Wilkerson may file a

judicial complaint on a child’s parent(s) for failing to comply with the compulsory attendance laws. Additionally,

18 or more absences could result in the child not being promoted to the next grade. Your child must be in class

to ensure success in learning.

Parent Access and Email Accounts

Email is our primary communication tool for all school events and information. Additionally, Parent

Access is a vital information tool. Once you register for a PA account, you will have access to grades,

report cards, attendance, discipline records, cafeteria accounts, and more. *You must have your child’s

6-digit student ID to register for your account. If you have forgotten this number, ask your child their

lunch number. This number is also on previous copies of report cards or progress reports. In addition,

we can provide this number for you through the homeroom teacher or at the front office. Follow the

simple steps to complete your Parent Access Registration at http://www.conroeisd.net/student-

parent/pac.asp

Student safety is our biggest priority. For this reason, all visitors to our building must check in at the

front office and present their photo identification. Additionally, during afternoon dismissal, we will be

using a barcode system to help us account for all car riders, walkers, bikers, day care and bus riders.

Car riders will be dismissed through the front doors and placed in cars with the proper CAR RIDER

SIGN. Any parent who does not have a car rider sign will be asked to park their car and wait until the

pick-up line has dwindled (usually by 4:15pm). Students or parents may request additional signs

through their homeroom teacher or the front office. At that point, parents may enter the building with

their photo identification to obtain a dismissal pass or new sign. To save you time and ensure the

safety of your child, it is imperative that you have the car rider sign with you each time you come

through the line. The sign should be prominently displayed through the entire line process and not

removed until your child has loaded your vehicle. Student name(s) should be written in large, bold

print with a black marker. Please do not enter the Front Office between 3:50 and 4:10 and expect to

get your child. Each staff member has a specific duty during this busy dismissal process. Interruption

of these duties hampers our ability to dismiss all students correctly and safely.

If you need to change your child’s normal mode of transportation, you must send a signed note to

his/her teacher that morning, notifying them of the specific details. Should an emergency occur,

requiring transportation to be changed later in the day, you may fax a signed request to the

receptionist @ 832-592-8910. Please CALL US at 832-592-8900 to make sure the fax was received. To

make the change by phone, you must provide the receptionist with the safety code word listed on your

child’s emergency card. Without this code word, a phone change will not be accepted. Because we

cannot guarantee that emails will be seen or received in a timely manner, this mode of notification will

not be accepted. Any changes in transportation must be received prior to 2:30 pm. After this time,

your child must ride his/her normal mode of transportation. Please know that requests to ride the bus

home with friends will not be permitted.

Please note that we will provide a “Drop Off” station in the front office for items that you bring to

school for your child such as lunches, forgotten instruments, homework, etc. We will not disrupt the

classroom with phone calls to notify the student of the drop off. They may, however, check this table

on their way to lunch or between classes with teacher permission and a hall pass.

Cell Phone Policy

Cell phones are permitted but MUST be turned off and concealed prior to entering the building. The

cell phone may be carried with the student in his/her backpack. For safety purposes, your child may

contact you outside the school doors upon arrival or dismiss to let you know their location. Your

student may not respond to a call/text on his/her cell phone during the school day. Doing so will

result in disciplinary action for your student. You may contact the school and we will assist you in

reaching your child. Electronic readers are allowed for reading purposes ONLY. E-Readers must be

turned off during class time unless given permission to use by the teacher. Cell phones may not be

used as e-Readers.

Food and Drink Policy

Healthy Snacks and water are allowed in the classroom at teacher discretion at various times of the

day.

Allowable healthy snacks for the classroom include:

• Fruit, vegetables, crackers, or other teacher approved healthy options that do not require

utensils, stain furniture or carpet or create a mess.

• The only drink allowed in the classroom is clear, unflavored, non-carbonated water. Water may

be bottled or stored in a refillable container.

All other food or drink must be consumed in the cafeteria during the designated breakfast time from

8:00-8:45am or during the student’s regular lunch time.

• Drinks such as coffee, soda, tea, juice or flavored waters may only be consumed during these

designated times in the cafeteria. Students may not drink these beverages in the hallways, at

recess or in the classroom.

• Breakfast foods and other items that do not fall under the healthy snack category may only be

consumed during these designated times in the cafeteria. Students may not drink these

beverages in the hallways, at recess or in the classroom.

• Lunch may not be delivered directly from a restaurant or food vendor as we cannot verify that

the parent initiated the delivery or approved of the food. Parents may personally deliver or

drop off food from restaurants or other food vendors.

Please note that any food or drinks not consumed during breakfast or lunch in the cafeteria must be

sealed and stored in the student’s backpack or lunch box or discarded before leaving the cafeteria.
