#ToolibinLake Head of the Blackwoood River and a wetland of international importance, Toolibin Lake is home to a myriad of resident and migratory birds. It is also one of the last remaining inland freshwater lakes in southwest Australia - so rare it’s classified as critically endangered in WA. The lake is a seasonal wetland filling on average every 3 years. This cycle of wetting and drying has formed a wooded wetland with extensive stands of sheoak and paperbark trees. A signposted 1.6km Recovery Walk highlights the engineering solutions for the lake. A perfect spot for a picnic with facilities available. #AlbertFacey Albert Facey’s bestselling autobiography ‘A Fortunate Life’ is loved worldwide. Born in 1894, Albert Facey lived the hard frontier life of a sheep and broadacre farmer, survived the gore of Gallipoli and raised a family through the Depression. Despite enduring hardships we can barely imagine today and personal trials from a very early age, Facey always saw his life as a ‘fortunate’ one. Pop into his home and see for yourself the way our early settlers lived. #LakeYealering A place of water and trees, Yealering is thought to be the only country town in Western Australia with a lake within the town boundary. The beautiful Lake, headwater of the Avon River, is home to black swans and a variety of birdlife and wildflowers during season. Scenic BBQ facilities are available as are fun playgrounds for the young at heart. #Wildflowers Harrismith is internationally recognised for the wide variety of wildflowers that grow in the area including; orchids, verticordias, grevilleas and banksias. A well-defined walktrail with informative signage surrounds the town and showcases the magnificent display of wildflowers. Birdsong will keep you company the whole way round. Keep a look out for our fauna, too! #HeritageTrail In Wickepin, hop across the railway line behind Facey Homestead and discover an easy access walk trail along Yarling Brook. Heritage buildings and a surprise sculpture (or 20) can be seen. Spot the empty nest anyone?
