Wikis

What is a Wiki?• A wiki is a website that

shares information, that people can comment on and edit.

Benefits• It gives the students an

interactive learning experience. They can relate more to this type of learning.

• I will be using my wiki to give ideas for arts integration in my school.

RSS What is RSS?RSS is a new feed from your favorite websites. Instead of going to websites for new articles, they are displayed on your desktop as soon as they are published.

I used NewsBar and included feeds from Eagles, Kennedy Arts Center, andAlzheimer’s.org

Benefits- Allows you to see the

stories in chronological order as soon as they are published.

- It keeps you current on what is happening on your favorite sites.

- You can use newsfeeds on your wikis and blogs as well.

Blogs What is a Blog?

A blog is a website that offers information, shares experiences, and gives opinions. Whereas a wiki has many authors, the blog has one author, who is constantly posting.

Benefits

- It allows an author to share unique experiences with many readers.

- It is searchable through labels and the blog can contain links to other blogs and websites for further information.

Course Reflection

Accomplishments- I was always

intimidated by the thought of starting websites or blogs. No longer.

- I am proud of my wiki and blog, but they are still a work in progress.

Challenges- The hardest part was trying

to post files/websites to the DCIU website. It wouldn’t let me copy and paste. I spent way too much time on that.

- Not happy that Glogster advertised free APP and it’s not. I wanted to do an interactive poster and had to ditch that.

The Future

• I want to continue developing my arts integration wiki, so that I can share ideas with my staff. I want to add the RSS feed from Kennedy Arts Center to the wiki.

• I plan on continuing my Alzheimer’s blog. I haven’t invited people to share yet. I still want to add videos, links to other sites and an RSS feed from Alzheimers.org.

• Thank you Mr. Kiker. Sorry if I drove you crazy, but I am just a beginner.
