Have you ever thought of Christian Science nursing as an activity of Church? Our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, literally made Christian Science nursing a church activity—one that supports the Christian Science practice and healing—by providing a bylaw for it in the Church Manual. We are therefore appreciating Christian Science nursing as part of Church. We believe development efforts for Christian Science nursing supports fellow Christian Scientists in our vast region, and ultimately the Cause of Christian Science and all mankind.

“...a Christian Science nurse shall be one who has a demonstrable knowledge of Christian Science practice, who thoroughly understands the practical wisdom necessary in a sick room, and who can take proper care of the sick.” —Church Manual, p. 49

Wide Horizon currently employs 22 nurses working three shifts 24/7 providing:

❖ Christian Science Nursing Care. Different levels of Christian Science nursing care are offered to meet a wide range of needs for guests who may require some assistance during their day to those with significant physical challenges to overcome.

❖ Outpatient Services. Christian Science nurses minister to individuals who can travel to Wide Horizon but don’t need to stay at the facility, caring for various physical needs such as cleansing and bandaging wounds.

❖ At-Home Care. Christian Science nurses at Wide Horizon may be able to arrange for a CSN to visit your home to provide care when needed, in some cases on an emergency basis.

❖ Telephone Consultation. We are always available for consultation regarding Christian Science nursing. Call to speak with a Christian Science Nurse Supervisor, 303.424.4445 ext. 3033.

Wide Horizon also makes available Rest and Study and Supervised Residential Living at Horizon House for those students of Christian Science who seek a respite from daily cares and a peaceful retreat for spiritual renewal.

In addition to Wide Horizon’s Annual Fund, we have developed a five year plan—“Wide Appeal for Sustainability.” Our goal is to raise an additional $3.5 million for investments. Our objective for this plan is to provide sustainability and continuity of Christian Science nursing at Wide Horizon for the long term.

❖ Estate Plans — An estate plan enables you to leave a lasting legacy to both your family and the organizations you value the most. The most common documents in an estate plan include the following:

• A Will and/or Trust. The best means for transfer of your wealth depends on your financial circumstances, your plans for the distribution of your property, and the state in which you reside. Decisions on the choice of documents and their preparation usually require the assistance of an attorney.

• Charitable Organizations as Beneficiaries — An easy, direct way to provide for your best-loved charities is to change the beneficiary designation on an IRA or life insurance policy to the names of those organizations. When these assets are gifted to individuals, they are considered as taxable income; when they are gifted to a charitable organization, they are tax free.
