Dear Parents/Carers

Comic Relief

As it was our book week the week after

Comic relief, we asked the children to

dress up as their favourite book

character, and, as you can see from the

pictures, we had some hugely imaginative

costumes. Well done to everyone! The

donations amounted to £169.24

Lewis and Ollie together with mums Heidi

and Emma, made an amazing £60 (in

addition to the above amount) with their

biscuit sale for Comic Relief. Again a

fantastic effort, well done!

We had to investigate which trades were in Wicklewood in 1900 using the village's trade

directory, who ran the business and by using an 1887 map of Wicklewood, record where

the trades were in the village. It was amazing to see 4 family names that the children

recognised as still being in Wicklewood today!

CASMA

Lapwing Class took part in

the musical event,

CASMA, at St Andrew’s

Hall last week. It was an

amazing opportunity to

join with many other

schools to sing together.

The children were a real

credit to the school

Swift Class assembly last

week took the audience on a virtual tour of

All saints Church, Wicklewood which the

class recently visited. If you couldn’t make

the assembly but would like to know more,

take a look at the displays in their

classroom.

Goodbye: we are sad to have to say

goodbye to Miss Atherton and Miss King

who have been working with Swift class

since the autumn term. We would like to

wish them the best of luck in their next

schools and for their future careers.

Books: there has been a fantastic effort

in raising money for books.

working on as part of our project to revamp the library.

an ever-popular biscuit and cake sale last

Friday and they raised £102.70.Thank

you to everyone who contributed- what a

brilliant effort!

During Book week the children have also

had the opportunity to hear teachers

reading their favourite books, and to

pair up with children in different year

groups to read together, as well as

enjoying the Travelling Book Fair.

Suggestions for other strategies we can try for anti-bullying: having a bully

counsellor (this is already happening)

Better communication between staff and MSAs.

Find common interests between children who may not interact very well giving them

activities to work on together.

Outside speakers e.g. school nurse : these ideas will be considered by the BIG team

Section 2 Reports

The majority of people wanted the reports to be either 1-2 sides or 3-4 sides. (%)

The majority would like an explanation of the Nat Cur levels (%)

Most preferred the report format that we already use (2) because of the way it is

personal to the individual child and because it is easy to understand.

One person liked the concise nature of number 3 and the way it indicates key areas to

support your child.

Analysis comments:

Everyone who needed a response and who gave their name has been contacted .The

question with the most number of negative responses (22%) was about the governors.

The Governors’ booklet is being updated and will be sent out again to everyone in the

near future. It is also now on the web site.

Finally, thank you to all our parents. You are amazing: incredibly supportive and always up

for trying new things. We, as a staff really appreciate all of you!

Winners of the prize draw for the questionnaires were Mr McLeod and Mrs Florence.

Well done to them!

The children then held an assembly yesterday to explain to the school how it will work,

and to introduce themselves. They have also been to every class and have run activities

with the classes as part of the pre-launch. These children are all volunteers and are

completely committed to this on-going project. We are very proud of all of them.

Willow weaving;

Last week, Kingfisher class spent an enjoyable

day working with an artist on an eco-activity

for our Comenius project- weaving willow

frames for plants to grow up. You can see them

on the field, and if the weather ever improves,

we may even have some plants growing up them

later next term!
