The U S has 300,000 square miles of shoreline to watch …..

That Security is the job of the U. S. Coast Guard & Auxiliary.

They can’t do it alone, and need you.

U.S. Coast Guard Commandant instruction

16618.8 established the America’s Waterway Watch program on February 10, 2005.

The program’s purpose is to raise national awareness among those who work, live, or recreate on or near the water.

C.A.N. needs members who live in view of navigable waterways, to assist the Coast Guard with their missions.

C.A.N.

Is a group of volunteers dedicated to the guardianship of America’s waterways.

If you are a:• tow boat operator• marina operator, • or otherwise live or work around America's waterways, • the Coast Guard wants your help in keeping these areas safe.

You can do this by participating in C.A.N.

What CAN members do:

Fill out a CAN application.

Be available when the Coast Guard calls to:

• Give whatever information they’re capable of,

to aid the Coast Guard in their mission.

• Report anything that seems unusual on the

waterways to the Coast Guard.

Citizen’s Action Network Application Form

• By submitting this form, you are agreeing to the release of your information to the U.S. Coast Guard. • This applications gives location and other details

about the member’s residence to the Coast Guard.

The Coast Guard maintains a CAN member database…

Citizen Action Network (CAN)

Data is added only by Coast Guard personnel and is not shared with any other law enforcement databases.

Auxiliary CAN members can be given special equipment

such as night vision goggles and special binoculars.

The Auxiliary would like to offer training to all CAN members.

What C.A.N. is not:

• C.A.N. members are not agents of the government.

• C.A.N. does not emphasize that individuals engage in surveillance or other activities that are intrusive or illegal.
