It is potentially motivating, stimulating and challenging. Itusually results in building student confidence, self esteem and

autonomy as well as improving students’ language skills, content learning, and cognitive abilities.

It isCooperative

RatherThan

Competitive.

It culminates in an end product that can be shared with others, giving theproject meaning and real purpose. The value of the project, however, liesnot just in the final product but in the process of working towards it.

It is studentcentered.

It leads to the authentic integration of skills and

the processing of information from

varied sources, mirroringreal-life tasks.

“Projects are multi- skill activities focusing on topics or themes rather than on specific language targets…Because specific language aims are not prescribed, and because students concentrate their effort and attention on reaching an agreed goal, project work provides students with opprotunities to recycle known language skills in a relatively natural context” Haines, 1989
