Teaching of English pronunciation is not an easy task. There are many problems faced by teachers as well as by students while learning.

Some problems due to stress and intonation and others due to the sound of English.

There are 44 sounds in English. Some of the sound produce more than two sounds.

Students tend to pronounce the words on the basis of their spellings. They are astonished when they made to listen to the correct pronunciation.

Learners don't come across the peculiar sound in their mother tongue.

Mother tongue Interference

Learning mother tongue is a natural process but

learning second language is a artificial process.

When a student learn his mother tongue his mind is

clear in state about the sounds but while learning

second language the sounds are not clear.

Students happen to compare the sounds with their

vernacular language while in learning.

Poor teaching

It is very essential teacher should know

pronunciation well. If teacher himself / herself utter

poor pronunciation. How can a teacher expect the

pupil to pronounce properly.

Teacher should be able to compare the sounds of

English with the mother tongue.

Teacher should differentiate the aspects of the

sounds.

ENVIRONMENT (AMBIENCE)

The atmosphere is not suitable for their

learning.

They don’t get any chance to speak in second

language in school as well as in their home.

Because their parents may not be educated.

Lack in opportunities.
