advanced towards the German forces. At Mons the BEF slowed the German

advance but still had to retreat.

The Germans pushed on but soon the Schlieffen Plan began to unravel

Belgian resistance and the actions of the BEF caused the German advance to become disorganised.

At the River Marne the BEF and the French army stopped the German advance.

The Schlieffen Plan had failed!
