The symposium offers graduate and undergraduate students involved in soft material research at universities a forum in which to share their results and meet their peers.
You also may want to consider attending the ACS Colloid & Surface Science meeting that precedes SoftMatt‐2008.
Note that each symposium requires separate registration.
VVeennuuee SoftMatt‐2008 is organized in conjunction with the international 82nd ACS Colloid & Surface Science (ACS CSS) Symposium, June 15‐18, 2008 (http://www.colloids2008.org). Participants of SoftMatt‐2008 are encouraged, but not obliged, to attend the ACS CSS. SoftMatt‐2008 will commence on June 18, 2008 in the evening with a banquet that will bring together both participants from the ACS CSS meeting and those attending SoftMatt‐2008 (see program). The SoftMatt‐2008 symposium will take place on June 19, 2008 in Engineering Building I on NC State’s Centennial Campus.
PPaappeerr ssuubbmmiissssiioonn Submit a maximum of two (2) 8‐1/2" x 11" pages of text (single spacing, minimum font size 10, margin 1”), including any number and combination of figures, tables, and references. The papers must include the name, affiliation, student status (undergraduate/graduate), e‐mail address of the student and name, affiliation, and e‐mail address of the faculty advisor. Since the emphasis will be on the student's own work, the number of authors should be minimal. However, acknowledgements of colleagues and citations of other key research in the area are encouraged.
EEvvaalluuaattiioonn Papers will be evaluated by a committee of 5 judges (3 faculty members, 2 graduate students) based on scientific content, merit, and presentation quality. Five (5) graduate students will be chosen based on their submission and invited to deliver a 25‐minute lecture (plus 5 minutes for questions) each at the Symposium. All remaining students will be asked to present their research work as a poster. Awards will be given to the talk presenters and top three poster presenters in both the graduate and undergraduate categories.
CCoossttss There is no registration fee for SoftMatt‐2008. All participants are responsible for covering housing and travel expenses. The ACS CSS symposium organizers will reserve inexpensive housing in NC State’s Wolf Village. The participants selected for the oral presentations will receive complementary two‐night housing from the organizing committee.
