WHS Management Plans
What is it?
• A WHS management plan sets out the arrangements to manage work health and safety on a construction project.
• The intention of a WHS management plan is to ensure the risks associated with a complex construction project are managed, as there are usually many contractors and subcontractors involved and circumstances can change quickly from day to day.
What is it?
• The WHS management plan must be in writing.
• It should be easily understood by workers (including contractors and subcontractors).
• It may not be necessary to communicate the entire WHS management plan to all workers, however, they must be made aware of the parts that are applicable to the work they are carrying out.

• An WHSMP must be prepared before the first soil is turned and should be subjected to an ongoing review as the project evolves.

WHS Safety Management Plans
• The level of detail required for a WHS management plan will depend on
– Complexity of the Workplace – The number of persons on site– and the risks involved in the work.
WHS Management Plan must Include
• the names, • positions and health and safety
responsibilities of all persons at the workplace whose positions or roles involve specific health and safety responsibilities in connection with the construction project

• Indicate the site evacuation and emergency response procedures • Outline the accident/incident notification, reporting, recording
and investigation process • Outline disciplinary procedures.
What Should it Contain
• Contain the Workplace Health & Safety Policy, • a copy of the Workers Injury • Management and Rehabilitation Policy and other relevant
policy documents • Define the roles and responsibilities for key personnel, in
particular – the Contract Manager, – Responsible Officer and – Site Supervisor – as well as reference to the general duty of care all employees;
contractors; sub-contractors and their employees; designers; manufacturers; suppliers; and installers.
