Whole School Uniform Rules

We hope that our students take pride in wearing the school uniform that identifies them as

a member of the Lewes Old Grammar School community.

We recognise that there are pupils who may prefer more flexible uniform options. Please

contact our Head of Pastoral Care, Mrs Lucy Roberts ([email protected]), with any

individual queries. We want our uniform.

Please note:

Pupils are expected to look smart at all times.

Any pupil temporarily not wearing the correct uniform requires a letter / email from

a parent or guardian explaining the reason. This should be sent to the form tutor.

Pupils who do not follow the uniform rules will receive sanctions.

Every item of personal clothing should be named. Schoolblazer offer a name-

taping service

Where it states (optional) this means that it is not compulsory to purchase.

However, if one of these garments is required it must be purchased

from Schoolblazer.

Please read these rules carefully to avoid issues.

responsibility, and the school will not be held responsible for loss or theft

Maroon ‘V’ neck jumper with contrast grey trim, sleeved or

sleeveless (optional)*. No other jumper may be worn.

School blazers must be worn at all times and school jumpers may only be worn

under school blazers.

Shoes and socks

Black or dark grey ankle socks. White socks are not allowed.

Smart, plain black leather shoes which must be polished. Visible logos are not

allowed.

Dark navy or black coat or LOGS crested storm proof coat(optional)*

PE coats may be worn. Brightly coloured coats and hoodies (any colour) are not

allowed.

GIRLS

Blazer and Skirts

Mid grey fitted jacket with school coat of arms*

LOGS tartan kilt *. The kilt needs to be of a reasonable length, not too short. Girls

must NOT roll up their skirts or hem them up.

Girls may wear trousers*; these must be purchased from Schoolblazer.

Blouses and Jumpers

White open necked long/short sleeved revere blouse to be tucked in at all

times. Shirts with a top button are not allowed.

Maroon ‘V’ neck jumper with contrast grey trim, sleeved or sleeveless. (optional)*

No other jumper may be worn.

School blazers must be worn at all times and school jumpers may only be worn

under school blazers.

No tie.

Shoes, Tights and Socks

Smart, plain black leather or patent shoes which must be polished with a maximum

heel of 5cm. Visible logos are not allowed.

Black or natural tights, without holes or ladders.

Short white or black socks.

Socks on top of tights must be plain black, without stripes/motifs or branding.

Large colourful or floral clips are not allowed.

Extreme hairstyles are not allowed. Hair colouring should be discreet and natural.

It would be advisable to contact the appropriate Head of Year to discuss any

drastic changes to hair style / colour beforehand.

Only discreet make up is allowed.

Pupils will be asked to remove excess makeup.

Nail varnish, acrylic nails or nail extensions are not permitted.

Fake eyelashes or extension eyelashes are not allowed.

trim (optional)*. No other jumper may be worn.

School blazers must be worn at all times and school jumpers may only be worn

under school blazers.

Jewellery

In addition to a watch, a single discreet item of jewellery may be worn. This may be

either a necklace / chain (not ‘chunky’) or a bracelet or a ring.

Up to two small earrings may be worn. No other visible piercings are allowed.

Jewellery must be removed during Games and PE, and possibly at other times, for

Health and Safety reasons. Items of jewellery are the pupils’ responsibility; the

school will not be held responsible for loss or theft.

Hair

Extreme hair styles are not allowed. Hair colouring should be discreet and natural.

Long hair must be tied up for practical activities and at any time that it is

considered to be a hindrance. If applicable, a hairband should be carried at all

times.

Hair-cuts should be no less than a grade 1.

Excessively all over short hair is not allowed

It would be advisable to contact the appropriate Head of Year to discuss

any proposed drastic changes to hair style / colour before they are made.

Charcoal grey school skirt*, a choice of two styles is available, or charcoal grey

trousers*. Skirts should not be rolled up and must not be shorter than 18” (as measured

when worn). These items must be purchased from School Blazer.

Blouses and Jumpers

White open necked long/short sleeved revere blouse to be tucked in at all times

Charcoal Grey ‘V’ neck sleeved or sleeveless jumper with maroon trim (optional )*

No other Jumper may be worn

Sixth Form

The Sixth Form dress is ‘Smart’ throughout the academic year, and at all formal school

events. The following is the dress code which the school expects the pupils to adhere to:

Gentlemen

Charcoal grey suit will be the default uniform supplied by Schoolblazer

Smart jacket and trousers or suit

Long sleeve shirt and silk tie (Sixth Form Tie for men only)

Ankle grey socks

Black or dark brown shoes no trainers

No sweatshirts, tracksuits or hoodies.
