hat follows Christmas? Life!” The year 2013 is a clean slate upon which we can fill in the spaces to look like last year or we can

live the spaces in a new, exciting way. The choice is ours. There is no right or wrong choice. There is depression, there is apathy, there is anger, there is isolation. But then these are the natural effects of reliving instead of creating. There is joy, there is mystery, there is risk, there is the unknown that lures us beyond the safety of repression in allow-ing ourselves to be led and guided. “What will the year 2009 be for me?” Probably the best year of my life so far. Why? Because I’m not afraid to live anymore and I find that God has an infallible sys-tem that guar-antees me growth, happiness, tears, laughter, loss and love. What will the year 2013 be for you! Life is waiting for you to decide!

WP: What in your youth shaped you to become politically active? TH: I don’t have an explanation for you. I was not raised in a political home, and neither of my parents were political. I did not come from Brooklyn, the Bronx, or Berkeley. However I was, on some fundamental level a non-con-formist, and anti-authority, and that led to ev-erything. But I’m not sure where that came from. I was not a drop out. I did very well in school; what was constant was that I was a veracious reader from a very early age. I also think a lot of it had to do with coming of age in 1960. In high school, I don’t remember much about the Beatnik generation, the Montgomery bus boycott, Little Rock school integration, all of those phenomena happened in the so called apathetic 50s. You look back and they are monumental. They are not signs of apathy.

I suppose the greatest influence was from the Beatnik generation, although I was not a Beatnik. But Allen Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac, the people who wrote the poetry and novels coming out of San Francisco when I was a senior in high school were what effected me. I remember hitchhiking under the influence of Jack Kerouac’s On the Road. The thing that teenage heroes had in common worried me, they were all insane. There was no political alternative, just psychological alternatives, like dropping out or being a hobo, poet, or a hitch-hiker. That did not appeal to me.

I was a young journalist and an avid reader, with a certain amount of idealism, and what struck me as a role model were the black stu-dents in the South who happened to be sitting at the lunch counters in 1960, just as I was going from my Junior to Senior year at the University of Michigan. My path was one of

journalism...crusading journalism. Activism became a real option when I saw students that were willing to die for something they believed in. It was quite different than the beat nick model. I fell in love with them. I never gave up writing, I just blended the writing and activism. People may think of me as an activist figure and protester, but as much as that is true, it’s not really me. I guess I’m more contemplative, interested and observing, but I understand you have to be involved to observe. You get a different picture of things if you’re involved.

WP: You mentioned the University of Michigan, which was the origin of the monumental political manifesto the Port Huron Statement. On its 50th anniversary can you tell us about its inception and how you got involved?TH: In 1960, there was a student movement, largely black in the deep South. This is around Obama’s birth. Students would not settle for the segregated old world of their parents, and they were willing to risk arrest,

beating, jail, and possibly even death by sitting in at lunch counters, and freedom rid-ing on buses and trying to register people to vote. An equivalent today would be the students around the country who are un-documented, advocates of the Dream Act, who are willing to step out and be exposed to arrest because they believe in recognition of their rights to be here. From Freedom Riders to Dreamers, I see a kind of a straight line. So that really galvanized me. That inter-ested me, because as I said the alternatives that I was looking at was the straight life or insanity. And here all of sudden there were people who were willing to die for some-thing. To die for something can lead to some unnecessary dogmatism, or fanaticism, but I don’t mean it that dramatically. But they knew that every time they went on those freedom rides, someone might not come back. It was a remote possibility, but a very real possibility.

They were in the forefront of a youth awak-ening that I think extended to all around the country who could not vote. They felt change was in the air. They wanted to form

nown primarially as a forward thinker, writer and statesman, Tom Hayden has been instrumental in shaping the course of 20th century politics. His political career has spanned more than 0 years;

he’s been an elected official as well as an integral part of social movements which have brought about major change for economic reform, social equality, the environment and world peace. When he was young, his idealism and love of humanity motivated him to get involved, but it was his talent as an investigative journalist which ultimately allowed him greater understanding of the social and political issues of his day. Whole Person Magazine had the pleasure of sitting down with Tom Hayden in his West Side office to reflect on his life and his impact on society.

their own avenue to get involved in North-ern support groups for what was going on in the South. And some of them supported Kennedy and lobbied him for the Peace Corps in Ann Harbor in 1960. So it was in that context that a number of student leaders around the country wanted to form a group which was SDS (Students for a Democratic Society). It was a shell waiting to be filled. It was formally established, but didn’t have any real life for a couple of years. So Port Huron was an attempt to launch a move-ment across campuses that would form chapters that would address student, civil rights and peace issues.

I was only 22, I worked on the Peace Corps in Ann Harbor that was adopted by John Kennedy, but mainly I was a student editor. I was asked to draft what became the Port Huron Statement, and then I served as the National President of the group for a year. After that I became a graduate student and a community organizer in Newark.

WP: What was it like being a community organizer during that time?TH: It’s the same story as Barack Obama. He went to Chicago, and he was aware of this heritage that we had begun of commu-nity organizing in the South and Northern Slums. I think it came from the feeling that the civil rights effort would have to be com-bined with an economic effort, empower-ment as well as jobs. Voting wasn’t enough, and the methods used in the Student Civil Rights Movement seemed right for inner city Chicago or Newark, where I was, or Ap-palachia for that matter. I think it would have flowered or had a major impact but for the war in Vietnam. We were organizing poor people to have a voice and power on their own in contending with city services, bureaucrats, police, and the war on poverty. It gradually became obvious that the Gov-ernment’s attention was going to go to the war on Vietnam, and a lot of these inner city youth were going to be drafted. There wasn’t going to be any money for a war on poverty; it was all going to Vietnam. It was necessary for some of us to shift to anti-war organiz-ing. In my case and the case of SDS, it was to try to preserve the option of domestic movements.

I felt very much that Vietnam was an inva-sion of what we were doing. It was interrupt-ing and preventing us from moving on full employment, ending poverty, civil rights, voting rights and so on. Others were against

it because they were pacifists, Quakers, or anti-war in general. I did not think that would take ten years of my life. Movements go through stages. The Indochina Peace campaign began around the same year the reform of the democratic party finally start-ed to happen in the McGovern campaign. This was an effort by a whole range of peo-ple who came out of the 1960s organizing experiences. They wanted to put an end to the war and get back to the domestic agen-da. It had the star quality that only a Jane Fonda could bring to it, but it had a partner-ship of Quakers, religious groups, unions, and many, many local coalitions. We think of the Peace and Justice Coalitions today, which were concentrated in 7-10 states where the majority of the electoral votes were, and you know it was intent on educating and mobilizing people to support a pledge to get out of Vietnam, and insert that pledge into 1972 politics. But the Indochina Peace Cam-paign lasted until 1975.

WP: do you see any similarities between the vietnam War and the wars in the Middle east over the last 10 years? TH: There are parallels and differences. When we were fighting Vietnam, it was a battle front in the Cold War of our power ri-valry between the United States and the So-viet Union. The cold war is over, but it’s been replaced by the global war on terrorism. It’s very similar because it assumes that because we were attacked on 9/11, that there is mono-lithic conspiracy to attack again. It goes un-der the name Al Qaeda, Islam Jihad, and all of our resources, primary resources should go to defeating terrorism. Just as it was believed that all of our primary resources should go to defeating communism. And the same thing goes on with the global war on terrorism.

When the Iraq war started, Bush said, “You’re either for us or against us.” There are only two sides, for example, in those days, 10 years ago, Pakistan had a ruthless dictatorship with atomic bombs - they were on the American side, the US camp. That turned out to be a foolish perception since Pakistan is really nationalist, and it really harbors peo-ple who are from Afghanistan. It is kind of a replay of the Vietnam War. The President said, “we can afford guns and butter,” which meant we can afford the war in Vietnam and deal with jobs, housing, healthcare and so forth at home. The same thing is occurring today. Fortunately Obama has enough sense

i think our early writings were

another example of what was going on in the world, and it was

being channeled through us in a way.

The Port Heron Statement, sort of,

wrote us.

to end these two wars. The war in Afghani-stan will cost 70 billion dollars this year if he doesn’t end it. But that is just for our troops, that is not for their long term health care costs, nothing else. 70 billion dollars that is not paid for because the Republicans are against the tax increase. So the deficit is not only caused by the rich not paying their fair share, but it’s caused by war after war that is not paid for except by the next gen-eration in interest rates. So all these things keep repeating.

WP: do you find people in general are more apathetic now than in the 1960s?TH: No. I think sometimes people look at that era of the 60s incorrectly. How could we have done so much in such a short period of time? Or how can anyone today accomplish so many things in such a short amount of time? But it’s more like looking at the 60s as more of a climactic phase of an old growth forest, the trees have been growing, the Eco System had been supporting the system for thousands of years. It’s dark and tangled, but there was a lot of life supported in that dark-ness for hundreds of years and there comes a moment when the tree has finally reached its ultimate objective, and that’s to reach light. And it’s called the canopy phase. It’s a very explosive growth moment. I think of the 60s as this short period of time when we reached the light. But it was preceded by growth that goes far back beyond our parents and ances-tors. Not just decades, but centuries. And I see later movements, lesser, greater, even the Obama campaign, as branches of this growth. As a young man, and a young presi-dent, I think he is much more aware than most people regarding the 500 years that it’s taken for some one like him to be where he is. It’s not true that things are achieved quick-ly. The experience can be ecstatic and brief, but the victory phase can be an exuberant phase when old growth trees reach light, and you have to view it as something very long in coming.

WP: in regards to your political life, What are your greatest accomplishments?TH: I’m pleased at being a part of many ac-complishments. I don’t take credit for any of them, and I don’t accept blame for any of them. I was part of it. Sometimes the media singled me out, but as a result of the 60s and the participatory democracy movement there were 26 million eligible people who became

eligible to vote, young people and black peo-ple in the South. Vietnam and Indochina Wars were ended, in large part because of the unwillingness of people here to go along. A couple of Presidents, Johnson and Nixon, were toppled because of domestic unrest. Ar-bitrary military draft was abolished. 50-70 thousand war opponents were given an am-nesty by Carter to return home from Canada. The veil of secrecy was pulled back a bit by the passage of the first Freedom of Information Act. Nixon was was willing to sign the stron-gest environmental, worker, and consumer safety laws that have been passed ever since. On Earth Day 1970 20 million people launched the environmental movement, which is still very much alive. New York passed abortion rights for women in 1970, which became the basis for Roe Vs. Wade in 1973. The War Powers Act was passed. It was the first time Congress had ever demanded and achieved co equal status with the execu-tive branch and the carrying out of wars. And every time you cross a curb side ramp it’s hard to remember people in wheelchairs commit-ted civil disobedience to achieve the Ameri-cans with Disabilities Act. The list goes on.

WP: What do you think it means to be a whole person?TH: 1n 1962, the Port Heron Statement had an emphasis on the whole human being. For example, participatory democracy is described as something to express their dignity. It was not seen as a mechanistic blue print alone, although a lot of hard work was necessary to achieve the vote. And if you look on the section of the work place, there is a passage in there for the need to address work as inherently creative for the human being to be whole. It needs to be more than just about making money. We were very pro union and pro living wage. The reason we said that explicitly in trying to achieve a par-ticipatory democracy was, most people were going to spend 10 hours a day driving to, and being in the work place, and if they were treated like robots or serfs, in those 8-10 hours, it would definitely rain down on their creative potential, clearly to think indepen-dently, to vote, to assemble, to organize. Then add on sleep, there is not much time for anything else left in life.

So the question is, where did that whole person come from? The interesting thing about Port Heron is, the 50 or 60 people there wanted the expression of values and spirituality first in the document. It’s the only so called political manifesto in history, that I know of, that had

a values section or spirituality segment. And it would have been known for that if the guy running the workshop on spirituality and religion had not fallen asleep on the 5th night, while we were assembling everything and leaving. So it got left out, but it’s been reprinted in this book, (Tom Hayden, 2012, Inspiring Participatory Democracy, Student Move-ments from Port Huron to Today. Boulder, CO, Paradigm Publishers). Call it the dead sea scrolls of the Port Heron Statement. In a word, all of us looking back shared a disil-lusionment with organized religion and in-stitutionalized religion, between the gap of what it professed and what it practiced. Ob-viously in the South, Christian Churches were racist but since we were raised in these religious beliefs systems or institutions, just like every thing else, we didn’t want to walk away to the madness of the margins. It was more reclaiming what was salvageable.

Overall it was a blend of existentialism, en-gaged Buddhism, and radical Christianity. It became Liberation Theology five years later. Liberation Theology was announced or pro-claimed in Latin America in 1968, but it had been boiling since Vatican II, the same time as Port Heron. Looking back, the winds of change that were blowing through Vatican II blew threw Port Heron at the same mo-ment. I think our early writings were anoth-er example of what was going on in the world, and it was being channeled through us in a way. The Port Heron Statement, sort of, wrote us. Now on this whole person par-adigm, I actually don’t know many whole people. I know a lot of broken people, and a lot of fragmented people, and a lot of dan-gerously pathological people, and I don’t be-lieve you can achieve social or psychic inte-gration in a society that has so many pressures to fragment them. So many pressures of conformity, and so many pressures for ma-terial desire, competition and striving for gold like status. They all turn out to be tran-sitory in the sense that when you have achieved them, you only want more. I’ve never met anyone who has been satisfied with their successes.

What we felt, and what I still feel is, what differentiates from an SDS approach between the counter culture and a holistic approach is that I think there are still real limits on how successful you can be at per-sonal or psychic integration without society changing. If society is broken, no single person in society can be whole. To learn more about Tom Hayden, please visit www.tomhayden.com

This Oscar-contending documentary is thor-oughly enjoyable and visually surprising with its clever animation sequences, great musical selections from the Rodriguez catalog; su-perb, suspenseful storytelling; and wonderful cinematography.

This film lingered with me for days. As an entertainment professional myself, I had a highly emotional reaction to the film. First and foremost, I thought: “Why didn’t Rodri-guez work harder to make a name for him-self?” I felt angry that he gave up on pursuing a music career after a couple commercial flops. All of the Americans interviewed in the film corroborate this view, including Ro-driguez’s first distributor, Clarence Avant, who matter-of-factly contends that two com-mercial flops would end any career. I interject to differ here, the great director, Robert Zem-eckis, failed commercially with his first two films and it took him a mere five years before he landed Romancing the Stone, then went on to direct mega-hits Back to the Future and Forrest Gump. If Zemeckis had just gone back to wherever he was from to put up dry-wall, like Rodriguez, we’d never have those film treasures he created. While on the other hand, Rodriguez raised three beautiful daugh-ters, who have palpable love for him, and so I guess his further creations turned out splen-didly as well.

Searching for Sugarman is a fascinating film about choices and beliefs. Rodriguez made an active choice not to pursue music on a grand scale after his second album, “Coming from Reality”. Judging from the lyrics of the song “Silver Words” on that disc, my guess is that he simply fell in love and gave up the road to stay home and raise a family with his lady: “But oh if you could see

/ The change you’ve made in me

/ That the angels in the skies

/ Were envious and surprised

/ That anyone as nice as you

/ Would chance with me.” Maybe those two impactful albums were all he was meant to release back then, and he’s saved the best cuts for 2013? He’s on tour now, so it wouldn’t surprise me.

alik Bendjelloul’s crowd pleasing documentary about Sixto Rodri-guez, an early 70’s-era American

folk singer who for decades, enjoyed no commercial success in the States, yet simulta-neously (and unbeknownst to Rodriguez himself) was more popular and sold more records than even the mighty Elvis in South Africa, invites us to entertain the possibility that somewhere, somehow, we might be rock stars and not even know it.

The true story of Rodriguez is simple: in the early 70’s he was discovered by music produc-ers in Detroit, signed to a label, and released a couple critically acclaimed albums which, in commercial terms, were complete failures in the U.S. He was dropped from the label, nev-er to be heard from again, outside of Detroit. However, while the Vietnam protest era was winding down domestically, South Africa was in flames with rage at the treatment of black citizens. Somehow, a copy of Rodriguez’s first album, “Cold Fact,” made its way to the southernmost country in Africa and his pow-erful voice, smooth melodies, and revolution-inciting lyrics like “Cos Papa don’t allow no new ideas here /And now you hear the music / but the words don’t sound too clear” be-came the songs of the anti-Apartheid revolu-tion in South Africa.

Soon South African sales of the imported re-cord were registering in the hundreds of thou-sands. At that time, South Africans were banned by the government from outside me-dia contact, so almost nothing was known about Rodriguez, and an urban legend circu-lated the country saying that Rodriguez com-mitted suicide onstage in America, and this was generally accepted as truth by most in that part of the world for decades.

Come the mid-1990s, two South African re-cord-shop owners set out to track down just how Rodriguez died. After a lengthy search at the advent of the Internet Era, they finally find Rodriguez alive and well, living in his

same old run down house and working con-struction in Detroit. The men then import the aged, rugged musician to South Africa to play seven surreal, sold-out arena con-certs about thirty years too late, it would seem. But the initially skeptical public (they thought it was a hoax) embraced him whol-ly. Rodriguez and his adult daughters are nonchalant about the news coverage, per-formances, and marathon autograph ses-sions with fans, and Rodriguez himself, shy and affable, reportedly slept on the couch in his hotel suite because he wasn’t comfort-able sleeping on a fancy bed.

As long thought dead Rodriguez the person is further explored, curious inquiries in-clude discovering this reclusive man’s inner workings. What is he thinking about all this new-found success? Rodriguez shrugs his shoulders, expresses that he doesn’t really know how to answer that and basically says, “It’s nice.” His daughters describe him as a hard worker and a loving father, who never really cared much for material things.

latent powers that all human be-ings were endowed with, at the dawn of creation. The alchemist searched for redemption, for a complete spiritual accomplish-ment, the full awakening of the consciousness, which in turn will grant the them a direct experience of the Divine, eventually becoming one with it. The alchemists strived, as it is said in the Emerald Tablet of Hermes Trismegistus, to sepa-rate “the subtle from the gross, softly and with great care.” In oth-er words separate what is inferior from what is superior in human na-ture, by means of transmuting the “raw” psychic energies into “pure” and everlasting spiritual capabili-ties. For the general public the al-

endary Philosopher’s Stone, sup-posedly capable of turning common metals into gold or sil-ver, by means of transmutation. The Philosopher’s Stone was be-lieved to be an elixir of long life, and also a “panacea”, a remedy that would cure all diseases, use-ful for rejuvenation and achiev-ing immortality.

Yet, beyond the declared aim, while working in sophisticated laboratories, undergoing exotic and complex chemical experi-ments, the alchemists consid-ered that the central task of their life was a different kind of trans-formation: perfecting their hu-man nature by developing the

1chemists were trying to find a way to transform lead into gold, how-ever the concealed esoteric pur-pose of their life-long work was to turn the “lead of the matter” into the “gold of the spirit”, symboliz-ing the evolution from matter to spirit, from attachment to freedom, from ignorance to enlightenment.

Paracelsus, a medieval famous al-chemist (1493–1591) and forefather of the modern medicine, said “When a man undertakes to create something, he establishes a new heaven, and from it, the work that he desires to create f lows into him”. The highest form of creation for the alchemists, was the Philoso-pher’s Stone. The Philosopher’s Stone was in fact a metaphor for the completion of the spiritual de-velopment, the inner transforma-tion that will allow man to become a mirror of his Creator, ref lecting his divine beauty and will. The Philosopher’s Stone equaled wis-dom (the word philosopher comes from the Greek philosophos, mean-ing “lover of wisdom”). So the al-chemists believed that immortality must be incarnated outwardly in gold, and inwardly by gaining spir-itual wisdom. And once created, this stone gives the body the capa-bility to transcend its physical na-ture and mortality, becoming in-tangible by illness and death.

The alchemists were Gnostics (a spiritual tradition as old as the world itself ), hence they searched for all the answers within them-selves, believing that all of us hu-mans already have the answers in-side ourselves. Consequently, they

believed that only the internal changes are able to attract superior forces in their lives, and by that their destinies will change for ever. Gnosis (meaning Knowledge in Greek) allows any human beings to understand the hidden aspect of the alchemical process. Gnosis was practiced in a wide range of coun-tries such as Mesopotamia, Ancient Egypt, Persia, India, China, in Classical Greece and Rome, early Christianity and in the Muslim civ-ilization. Up to the 20th century, it became more visible and popular in Europe, in a complex network of schools and philosophical systems. And although during the course of the history its enigmatic practices were never truly revealed to the public eye. During the Medieval times, alchemy became more visi-ble in its exoteric aspects, while its true purpose and methods became even more hermetic and enigmatic. Today, alchemical formulas, imag-es and practices are easy to come by, yet they are hiding in plain view their true spiritual message.

For the seeker, looking for spiritu-al regeneration, for ending suffer-ing, for finding the answers to the eternal questions “Who am I? Where do I come from? Where am I going?”…, the doors of alchemy are open and walked through, to-day more than ever.

Page 20: Whole Person Calendar - January 2013

20 on your goal of losing weight, quit-ting smoking, exercising daily etc., know that your brain is rewiring it-self to your desires and your body is being reconditioned in order to prepare itself for that new event. Mentally rehearsing daily what it would be like to experience any transformation creates internal changes that will help you achieve your goal. Here are seven initial steps to start you on the path:

1) INTENTION, INTENTION, INTENTION

Write a simple, clear resolution. This tells your brain that you mean it. Make sure it creates a positive feeling for you. Avoid words such as not and don’t. Make it specific. Instead of saying you want to eat healthier, say, “I will eat a healthy salad once a day so that I feel better about myself.” Your intention is your mental compass. The clearer, the better you know where you are going and how you will get there.

2) SPONSORING THOUGHTS

List strong specific reasons about why you want to change. This is the biggest secret to making it stick. You should feel passionate about each one of these thoughts. For ex-ample, if you are interested in los-ing weight, one reason could be to wear your mother’s wedding dress for your wedding in five months. Your sponsoring thoughts are the fuel to get you going toward your intention.

3) REVIEW, REMIND AND PRIME

Create a plan. To get and stay in the right state of mind, review your specific behaviors for the day when you wake up and/or before you go to bed. This sets up your day so that you stay conscious of your change. If you imagine yourself

Functional imagery has also prov-en that we can change the brain just by thinking differently. For example, people that never played the piano were divided into groups. The first group physically played scales and cords, and as a result of the new activity, their brains changed. The before and after results of the functional brain scans showed new areas of the brain activated. When the sec-ond group was asked to mentally rehearse the same scales and cords in their mind for the same amount of time, they grew the same amount of brain connections as the group who physically demon-strated the activity. Simply put, when we are truly focused, the brain does not know the differ-ence between what is happening in our minds eye and what is hap-pening in the external world.

So when you take the time out of your busy schedule to intention-ally dream a new reality, or focus

onrary to what you might think after having set

out to keep your New Year’s Resolutions in the past, only to see them dissolve in frus-tration and failure, the brain is the organ of change. The concept in neuroscience called neuroplasticity dem-onstrates that the brain alters itself every time we learn something new.Our nerve cells are arranged by what we learn, what we remember, what we experience, what we feel and what we envision. Our 100 bil-lion brain cells are always commu-nicating with the rest of our anat-omy. One new bit of information causes tiny brain cells to make new connections within your living lat-ticework. So when we really change our mind, the brain changes...and we can effect permanent transfor-mation.

Not more than thirty or forty years ago, there was a unanimous belief in biology that the brain was hard-wired, born with a certain amount of neurological connections. But with the advent of the latest technol-ogies in functional imagery, it is ap-parent that it is very possible to make the brain work differently. Research out of the University of Wisconsin has proven something as simple as attention is a skill just like golf or tennis. In other words, the more you practice being mindful, the better you get at it.

C

Make TransforMaTion sTick

by Dr. Joe Dispenza

Page 21: Whole Person Calendar - January 2013

21making the necessary decisions for that day, you will begin to prime your brain to automatically follow your intentions. Mental rehearsal installs the neurological hardware and software so that you have the circuits in place to use when execut-ing your changes. Ask questions like: “What do I have to do to get there?” Write down the steps. “When do I need to have those steps taken?” Decide what steps you can take today or right now. Review and remind yourself of the entire plan, and take a step.

4) ALIGN YOUR BEHAVIOR TO MATCH YOUR INTENTION

Your daily goals will always be in alignment with your ongoing inten-tion. Hold yourself accountable by demonstrating change in your en-tire day. One of the hardest parts of breaking a habit is not to make the same choices you’re used to. When you decide what you are not going to do that day, it will help keep you on task. The biggest reason most people fall short relates to giving in to familiar feelings. Get clear on when those mischievous cravings come up that drive you to concede so that you have the will not to.

5) TRACK YOUR CHANGES

Create a reward system for yourself that you can review daily, l ike a chart, and check your wins off on it. You will begin to make your chang-es a new habit...and build a new feeling of self-esteem, worth and belief that you are doing it. If you fall from grace one day, make the choice to get back into your routine the very next day without wallow-ing in failure and guilt which just undermine your efforts and incite a return to the old self. It’s important to see how far you have come.

6) COME OUT OF YOUR RESTING STATE

When in the midst of change, it feels unnatural, unfamiliar and un-certain because we are no longer ‘being’ the same person. We are changing how we think, how we act and how we feel. Therefore, each day you must raise your ener-gy and lift yourself into a new state of being. Questions like: “How need I be today to master my day?” “How would I feel when I am this person?” I like to say, “I cannot stand up as the same person who sat down, I must be in a new state of being and live from this level of energy.” Get excited that you have ascended this way.

7) CUE YOUR ENVIRONMENT

Have reminders in your life to keep you on track. Place pictures, notes, phrases, and/or vision boards where you can see them daily. At your desk, on the refrigerator or pasted to the bathroom mirror. Play motivational CD’s in your car or inspirational music while you exercise. These will keep you on task as reminders that what you are doing is important. The more you stay conscious of your future, the more inspired you will be to over-come your present reality.

While there is much more that can be done to ensure it to stick, simply know that true transformation is possible–and it is possible for YOU!

take us fully to a spiritual plane. When we speak our higher truth, and speak it with honor and integrity, our 5th chakra comes into it’s full expression. It is through this full expression that we then begin to har-ness the will and vital life force that will assist us in the expression of our Soul’s Song, or life purpose.

When we do not live from a place of truth, honor and integrity, our 5th chakra be-comes weak. We lose energy as the vital life force leaks from a non-realized 5th chakra. If we are not living from our deep-est and highest truth and speaking from that place, most likely we are living from others’ truths. This is not only detrimen-tal to our own expression, but weakens us for our day to day activities of life and drains our willpower that we need to “harness” for higher spiritual pursuits.

Chakra 1 and 7 are the two chakras with only one aspect. Chakras 2-6 have two as-pects to them. A front and back. The third chakra reflects and metabolizes the life energies of self worth, self-esteem, confi-dence and personal power. When we ex-perience “imbalances” in these realms, it is our Soul’s wisdom calling forth a time of growth. Instead of seeing these as im-balances see these as opportunities for transformation, for every physical plane imbalance, there is an aspect of our Soul ready to bring forth the wisdom, love and transformation. It is the exercising of our free will that calls this into being. It’s all yours for the asking!

Integrity, Honesty and The Fifth ChakraThe 5th chakra is the second of the spiri-tual chakras and is truly the first chakra to

Everything is Energy… Chakra is the Sanskrit word meaning “wheel” or “turning”. Chakras are energy vortices that can be found supporting the human physical vessel. It has been my personal understanding from working with these vortices, and the teachings from spirit, that these energy centers sup-port physical life from the non-physical or spiritual realms into the physical. These vortices when off balance, or not metabo-lizing fully, can create distortions in our reality. When a Chakra has been “out of balance” for some time it can and does lead to physical disease. All disease begins as an energetic imbalance which stem from something within your internal landscape needing attention. When we begin to work and honor these natural, organic systems within the body we truly begin to master our health and well being as well as evolve into higher conscious-ness.

“Be Impeccable With Your Word. Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against

yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth

and love.” ---

Miguel Angel Ruiz

Questions to Reflect on your Integrity:Do you know the importance of personal integ-rity?

Can you stand and speak for what you believe no matter the opinion of others?

Can you sense it when another is lying or per-haps being untruthful?

“Real integrity is doing the right thing, knowing that nobody’s going to know

whether you did it or not.” --- Oprah Winfrey

Spiritual Evolution, Will-power and the Fifth ChakraWhile often we think of will as something to overcome in our spiritual journey, which is true when speaking about lower will, willpower is something that we need to harness to gain the strength, fortitude and conviction of our own beliefs in order to rise above the “white noise” of day to day life and reach for the higher calling of our Soul’s Song. It is in the 5th chakra that we also begin to surrender personal will, to that of higher will or Divine will. When these two wills come together and begin the dance of surrender, you will most like-ly feel the pressure in the throat center. It takes a balanced, aligned will to make this happen and simultaneously surrender lower, personal will.

Invocation to Begin the Dance of the Wills within the Fifth Chakra:I’m now ready to experience the truth of my Divine Self! I call forth the dance of the Wills within my own Souls’ journey.

Knowing that it is My Divine Self that de-cides this, yet also my conviction as a Hu-man that more is possible! SO BE IT! …and so It Is…

Creativity and The Fifth ChakraThe Power of the Spoken Word! In an-cient Egypt it was only the chosen few whom were allowed to read and write. One of the reasons for this was they be-lieved that when one spoke with convic-tion and belief, these uttered words would become manifest. This is a perfect exam-ple of higher creativity and the 5th chakra.

In our society today, we still revere the power of an orator who speaks, and that shall be so! A great example is The Don-ald. Yes, Donald Trump, no matter what you think of him he is one who has this down to a science. Even before he became famous for the phrase “you’re fired” he would speak with such conviction that

Continued from page 25

those around him would automatically do his bidding. We might consider this a shadow example, but a great example non-the-less.

Questions to Probe Creativ-ity in The Fifth Chakra:Do you consider yourself to be creative?

Do you bring creativity to your day to day life?

Can you see where you might bring more cre-ativity to your work?

Take note that as we move from the Pis-cean age and into the Aquarian age, every person now has the ability to access their true creative force and the ability to call forth the energies of creation.

life by appreciating what was.

What is it that you are trying to change? This pattern in your present that you want to change: How has it served you? What were the benefits of this pattern in your life? Physically, mentally, spiritually, socially, family, financially, vocationally? Who did you meet? What did you learn? How did you grow? What did you attract?

For example let’s pretend that you want to begin with a healthier diet this year. What were some of the ad-vantages of having eaten not so healthy? Did you experience certain tastes? Meet certain groups? Learn more about Health?

Indeed, there is a purpose and equal advantages and disadvantages in all of life. As we begin to appreciate our

hat we are really talking about is changing habits. But why can it be so difficult to change habits? Quite simply, our habits become our identities. Through our habits we perceive our being. Our habits determine how we show up in the world. They determine our thoughts, words and actions. There is no greater comfort and security than us believing in, and being consistent with whom we believe ourselves to be.

At the same time, human beings seek to grow to the stars, to trans-form, to overcome, and to tran-scend. So then, how do we actually let go of old identities and keep to our New Year’s resolution?

Get clear on what it is that you would LOVE to change in your

past patterns, it becomes a lot easier to let go of patterns and a LOT easier to manifest our next experi-ence. What we resist persists.

What will be the disadvantages of you actually getting this New Year’s resolution?

The reason that we make resolutions is because at some level we believe that our lives will be better as a re-sult of these changes. As already touched on, there will actually be equal disadvantages in your life, even with this resolution. The grass is truly greener on the other side. By becoming more balanced in our per-ceptions, our resolution becomes a lot more real in our minds to mani-fest. In addition, instead of setting ourselves up for unrealistic expecta-

Thanks Be To Our animal

companionsdreaming, fantasizing and imagination can be magical ex-

periences. at the same time holding onto fantasies that

never seem to materialize can cause deep internal turmoil,

sometimes to the point of simply giving up. So how do we

set up a new Year’s resolution to instead of revolve around

the same old patterns, to allow ourselves to evolve towards

liberating the dreams inside our hearts?

W

Turn Your ResoluTioN from a RevoluTioN to an evoluTioN

Page 29: Whole Person Calendar - January 2013

2

tions, we become more balanced and appreciative with our new-found res-olution.

For instance, say your resolution is to earn more money. What is the ex-change here? Well, earning money will take thought, time, effort and en-ergy. You might have less of a focus on your family. You will have to learn many things that will cost money. People will become jealous indeed. There is NO gain without a loss. A balanced perspective optimizes your ability to manifest.

Where have you AlReADY manifested, iN some form, this New Year’s resolution?

This might sound a bit strange at first. The whole idea of a resolution is to manifest something new, isn’t it? Well, yes and no. If you look closely enough you will discover there are many aspects of your resolution that you have indeed already attracted into your life in some way. In example, let’s go with that your New Year’s res-olution is to quit smoking. Well, what emotions do you expect to experience as a result of quitting smoking? Pre-tend it is that you will feel free and healthy. Where have you felt free and healthy in the past?

Also, you were NOT born smoking, at one point you were free of it. You have “quit” smoking in the past, in between each cigarette! By honoring where you have ALREADY lived this resolution, it becomes a lot easier to believe and a lot easier to manifest and maintain as a resolution.

By becoming more

balanced in our

perceptions, our

resolution becomes a lot more

real in our minds to manifest.

“How will my New Year’s resolution serve me to live my highest values?

Your values are what are MOST im-portant to you in your life. The most effective way to create a new habit is to link it to your value system. What-ever you spend the most time, effort, energy and resources on are your highest values.

Let’s say that your highest values are your family and your work. Your New Year’s resolution is to quit smoking. It would be wise to list out all the ways that quitting smoking would serve you with your family and your vocation. You might have more money to spend on your wife and more vitality at work. Find as many links between your values and your resolution that you can. By con-sciously observing greater value, you become more inspired to keep the resolution.

There are very fine lines between our dreams, fantasies and our inspi-rations. Our dreams and fantasies are not actual. Our inspirations are the manifestation of us in spirit. By balancing our perceptions, by be-coming more balanced in our emo-tional approach to life, and by better communicating with our unique val-ue system, we become more able to manifest and actually keep the reso-lutions that are the inspiration of our true essence.

tioned’ right there, I gazed at HIM lying face down, entrails pouring out onto the ground. I observed HIM with complete awareness and saw that his breath was gone. No air was pushing through His rib cage.

I looked at the woman driving the car that HE was lying in front of and warned her not to let her kids see anything. An immediate understanding developed be-tween us and she got busy divert-ing her kids’ attentions which seemed to be my cue to ‘automat-ically’ begin directing traffic. That’s right…just like a cop! And things ran smooth as silk…it was beyond me.

I shouted to everyone, “Call 911, the police, the fire department. Call everybody,” I said and a woman yelled back asking me if I thought she should move her car

About two weeks ago, I was driving hrough an intersection in Los An-geles where I witnessed a fatal auto accident. A black Lexus and a wild, multicolored motorcy-cle mysteriously collid-ed and veered in two different directions. I saw the motorcycle fly-ing 20 feet above my head while pieces of the bike were breaking off and falling on my car. I knew that the body of the biker was lying in the street one car ahead of me. So I went to HIM… It felt like I was floating.

A force of energy blew right through me guiding me effort-lessly out of my car. It was as if I was being pulled by the biker’s body’s energy, like a magnet placing me squarely before HIM. Then having been ‘posi-

to block the oncoming traffic, “Right away,” I quipped, and it was done!

Now that I’d had some time to feel what was happening, I was drenched in a vibration of glory which seemed to pervade the scene. I looked at HIM and though it was not a pretty picture, that had no affect on the remark-able presence of grandeur spread-ing from around HIS body.

A windy atmosphere began to kick up etheric gusts that blew through the intersection. The mood changed like the weather and it was heavenly. I felt a surge of awe for what I sensed was oc-curring…that HIS soul was ele-vating up, out of HIS body. HIS Spirit was awesome, pure grace penetrating the surrounding area for about 200 feet. All the people gathered around the intersection forming a circle as if in an altered state, trying to understand what happened. The intersection seemed to be pulsating right up into the sky.

I felt a sense of calm pouring through my whole body, my sa-cred vehicle was filled with the most vital f low of life. Compas-sion along with a sense of honor and respect allowed me to be ex-traordinarily caring and respon-sive. As if there was no Me. Wheeh! Maybe that’s how HE feels too as he seems to be feeling pretty good…at least to me…though ‘dead’.

Then I saw the dreaded expres-sion of the Lexus driver, so I ap-

proached him as he searched my face. “What happened” he said, “did anybody see what hap-pened?” But what was so amaz-ing is that no one had seen any-thing. It was like an accident that just came out of nowhere and no one knew who hit whom or how, or from what direction they were coming.

Finally the firemen arrived to cover HIS beautiful, mutilated body and so I was relieved me of my ‘duty’. My role was over. And as I began to leave, the woman with the car full of kids asked me to sign her paper about what a special time this had been. “You took care of everything,” she said.

After writing my signature I felt ushered out, as if signing my name led me to being pulled through some magical exit, lead-ing directly away from the traffic jam. I started my car, pulled a U-turn and drove towards the open space of an empty city street where I pulled over…to rest. I dropped my head and reveled in the light of what had happened.

An awe-inspiring witnessing of how we are all taken care of NO MATTER WHAT. And we are so distinctly connected. I had always yearned to feel the well-known term “No worries”, until that day. Now I share this sacred trans-forming experience, and, I bid you, “No worries”.

Astrological

A notably interesting thing is that your intensity, your natural intensity will still be there. At first you will experience the ‘slowing down’ and the ‘falling away’ as having your foot on the gas and the brake at the same time. This is okay because as soon as you notice this phenomena, you are ready and able to ‘go with the flow’.

In the future, once you have some expe-rience with this shift in how you show up and how you process, how you react to and what you make out of the cir-cumstances of life, you will have a rich-ness of know-how that will benefit you benefiting others, that you will want to share.

GEMINI - 5/21 – 6/20It is time to clean house, because the opportunity to do so with minimal pain has arrived. This house cleaning is about taking responsibility, rather than projecting or blaming others. You will have to dig into the depths of your childhood and uncover, dis-cover where the projecting began. This will take a willingness to notice whom modeled for you the art of project-ing onto others what is yours. As you do this housecleaning, hold compas-sion in your heart and know that most people who care about you did the best they knew how; and just clean house.

One of the best tools to do this that you can have in hand is innocence. Inno-cence allows you to dig in with curiosity rather than resentment and blame. Find a well of innocence waiting for you in your heart of hearts. And render much patience as you open this up. Along the way, some of you may find yourself in a bit of a ‘dark night’. Stay relaxed and proceed with curiosity and patience be-cause a ‘dark night’ is a gateway to your life purpose–a real gift.

At the urge to act on the need to tell your

ARIES - 3/21 – 4/19It is time to notice that you have been holding back, thus time to move out of your cocoon of comfort and get into some new action. In your heart you feel that change is necessary, change is com-ing and change is wanted. As you get into action, know that in silence you will find the rudder, the accelerator, and the brake.

One of the things that has kept you fro-zen in place is ‘politics’. The ‘politics’ will call for you to engage in activity in a way that calls for some give and take. As you take action, some feathers will be ruffled. Feather ruffling is okay when action is taken with integrity, sensitivity and from your heart, making a posi-tive difference for you and for others.

The biggest challenge for those that get their feathers ruffled is that they are holding on to what they have, so tight, that it hurts. As you ruffle their feather, you are actually relieving their pain and suffering. You will know how much ruffling to do and to whom as you dive into the silence in your heart. Eventu-ally, those whose feathers you ruffle will have the maturity to be able to notice the change is good for them.

Your future is full of breakthroughs that are unimaginably good for you. First things first though; get into and take action.

TAURUS - 4/20 – 5/20 At this time you are having a falling away of what is over, done, and completed. This falling away can bring some dis-comfort, as that which is falling away is known, and you have a place of comfort within where that which is falling away lives. Even so, as soon as you notice, al-low yourself to ‘go with the flow’ of What Is. You are well prepared to allow, so encourage and support a ‘going with the flow’ to happen. Now is also a time to be slowing down. As you slow down, your decision making will sharpen, and a finer discernment will emerge. Wow!

family what you are discovering, instead, the best thing to do is to move on with-out creating the opportunity for any of your family to feel bad or to get defen-sive. You may also notice that some of the projections you discover are societal, a great awareness for you to come to.

One of the ways you will know you are progressing in a wholesome and healthy way is that in the future you will start feeling quite ordinary.

CANCER - 6/21 – 7/22Trust. Trust yourself to realize the signs that are always there. Trust life around you to sing on key what you can ben-efit. Trust your loved ones to trigger in you what is hiding from your aware-ness. There is a huge magnifying glass that is intensifying the circumstances of your life. The great intensity is magnify-ing the forest in-between the trees. The in-between is a gateway, a blessing, and an opportunity. There is a constant fall-ing apart and a traveling upward which you already know to some degree. Now deep inside, you have a very old ten-dency to fight or at the very least you are always prepared to fight. There is a left over armoring, a covering from fighting in the past. These are some-what unconscious to you. What is re-ally good about you Cancers is that you have some awareness of being patient. This patience comes to your rescue when these issues around fighting come to light. You can sit with what is and be with it. Even if there is an explosion, you very quickly can reconstitute com-ing back into balance. The good news is that all this fighting and armoring is due to past conditioning. The addition-al good news is that each and every ex-plosion gives you an opportunity to re-move another layer of conditioning. So, the way you view yourself and the way you view the reactive circumstances and the effects of that, are very invaluable.

Now it gets tricky and sticky. Morality comes up for consideration. Morality must be defined and understood by you. The constantly evolving and constantly unfolding call for a constant evaluating by you. You are called to take a discern-ing look, often. An evaluating of what you can and must do. What you already know is that you are constantly trans-forming and you have enough experien-tial insight to know that ‘all that appears’ is more and less than what is made out of it. While you are sitting back in some regards enjoying the fruit of your suc-cess, there is a fracturing of the reality you lean on. Standing up now will assist.

In the future you will be called on to compromise in ways that are unbeliev-able to you. The compromising will at first appear to be impossible for you and then the conditions you understand to be in play will reveal to you layers upon layers of insight, knowledge, un-derstanding and experience for which there are no words.

LEO - 7/23 – 8/22You are exceptionally receptive this month. This can be a double-edged sword, so how and what you receive is the key. While most of us want and expect the best to come our way, the strongest light on our path is one of learning and unfolding. At each juncture there are opportuni-ties to deepen our ability to discern what is for us and what we are done with. Stay tuned to the subtle signs and more and more success is yours. Along the way you are going to be and feel all alone. This is good news at times and will feel odd or off at other times. Again, stay tuned into the signs and you will find great suc-cess in what is ‘good news’ and what feels ‘odd or off ’. All these experi-ences and circumstances are custom-ized for you highest good to unfold.

It is time to celebrate what you have already received, and to rest in grati-tude as you dance in the depths of your heart. The more sensitive you be-come, the more balance you will find.

VIRGO – 8/23 – 9/22Much of the stress you think you have in life is from your own doing. This can

be very good news if you have the ca-pacity to take responsibility for the cir-cumstances you find the stress in. While you are ready to celebrate and dance, the dancing can be much more fun and sweeter when you dance for the pure joy of life. Versus drugs and alcohol which are sometimes used to reduce stress, it never does; it only attempts to cover it up or distract one from the circum-stances. One wanting circumstances to be different than what they are, causes stress. You have the innate capacity to have deep understanding. Understand-ing of what is behind the circumstanc-es. As you are willing to see and know the truth, more will be revealed, as your capacity is indeed there to receive.

Part of the stress that you carry revolves around a fear of losing what you have. Is your glass halfway empty or halfway full? Please decide and act accordingly. Generosity supports the inflow of great wealth of all kinds from all quarters. As you practice and become more fluid with What Is your capacity to receive will constantly increase. Be in the mo-ment. Notice going from moment to moment is the key and the joy of a life.

LIBRA - 9/23 – 10/22Going with the flow is always a good thing, except when it is not. Know-ing when to go with the flow and when to stop is key. It is through the refined awareness that this distinc-tion can be made. It is your highest good. It is smart to just stop and smile into the awareness that is al-ways available when unsure. When you take your time to decide which way is best for you, you are more than likely to have a breakthrough. Even though what is broken through is unconscious for the most part, nevertheless, with patience and a progressing awareness, there will begin to be a comfortable expecta-tion of the unknown revealing itself.

The hindrance you face in ‘going with the flow’ is the need to fight. We are talking about fighting as if the re-sponsibility for what is, belongs some-where outside yourself. On some level you know the source of All That Is, All that Was, and All that Can and Will Be. That which you know be-

comes clearer as your inner voice is seen, recognized and trusted.

The ego is a great politician. It wants credit, it wants to be the center, the limelight and always in charge. The ego wants to have perfect under-standing all the time. Travel the path of the ego, and you will have a mind that is Schizophrenic, stretched be-tween two immovable barriers, never at rest and never satisfied. The stress here is self-inflicted, and at some level there is knowing that you are hold-ing the string, and that when pulled, collapses your support; or at least it looks that way to your mind/ego.

Think of this dance with the mind/ego as an adventure that a small child is walking into curiously and full of hope. If you get tired, just lie down and get some rest. And when you arise, you will move forward with yet more curiosity and hope. Consider this and you will evoke the Master within.

SCORPIO - 10/23 – 11/21Overwork the mind and you will have smoke and fire instead of the peace and satisfaction you seek. Most have unreasonable expectations of the mind, or believe there is nothing of value there. Those that say, I’m just no good at that, whatever that may be, have copped out rather than real-izing that there are infinite possibili-ties only limited by what is decided in the mind. The mind can thus be-come a great robber. You know that projecting your so-called shortcom-ings onto others is just an excuse designed to make you feel better. You have so much more available to you than you can imagine. Al-low what you already know, ‘going with the flow’, to guide you into a direction that is familiar and yet new.

Notice that your tendency to hang onto what you have for safety rea-sons, is holding you back. When you notice this holding back, sit in it, and know that there is a creative side of you that wants out.

SAGITTARIUS - 11/22– 12/21Know that your capacity to be play-

Page 42: Whole Person Calendar - January 2013

2

some aspect of yourself that is off, that is less than you thought it was or that is out of balance. Spend your effort and energy on bringing out the best in yourself rather than beating yourself up.

AqUARIUS - 1/20 – 2/18The future is a continuation of being a reb-el. You are going to be breaking the chains that bind and hold back. You will be light-ing the torch into the field of possibilities. This is what you have to look forward to, and to get there, and to be in balance, and more importantly to survive, you will have to face yourself like never before.

Your mind will have to become a co-con-spirator in seeking the highest good. You will have to consider the world and what is good for the world by working to unload-ing the past that you are clinging to. You are ready to have breakthroughs. Hang on, because you haven’t seen anything yet. The burden that you are carrying is mostly invisible to you because if you knew, you would cry and give up. How-ever, your heart is good and big and you can handle a little at a time, which is how is works anyways; one little breakthrough after another, then one big breakthrough after another. Only what you can handle comes. There is sorrow from generations that you will know, and in that sorrow you will know the depth of the totality of All That Is. Your awareness will pierce all il-lusions, one at a time. From time to time you will want to stop or postpone what is right in front of you. You will think you are tired or that you have had enough. This is natural and when you do, allow the in-finite depth of your creativity to open up to you. In this you will be comparing your inside to others outsides in so many ways. Again this is natural and when you notice that you are, forgive yourself and move on. You will be making compromises in ways that would have been impossible without the uncovering of a depth of courage you knew nothing about prior.

Your morals and principles will be called into question and you will want to fight and protect yourself. All this fades into

sweetness as you inner voice is recog-nized. Take this recognition deep within, into that place of silence, for there to be a completion. This completion must hap-pen before your mind will agree to par-ticipate. Go.

PISCES - 2/19 – 3/20There is currently support for you to travel. The traveling can be geo-graphically or the traveling can be in-wardly. Either way you are challenged by hanging onto what you have. Hanging onto what you have for fear of losing it, is no way to be. The Cre-ator within you is your constant ally, loves you, and is there to support your every step. All you have to do to begin is to set an intention to do so.

In so many ways there are situations in which you compare your inner re-sults to others’ outward appearances. These comparative analyses are of no value and in fact produce barriers to your progress. Projecting aspects of yourself onto others is another bad habit. Take a little time and look into what is behind the habit of projecting onto others. You will find great value in what you discover about yourself and who is responsible. Learn to want the responsibility for your fate.

There is an aspect of yourself that knows how to compromise in the most difficult of situations. Dis-cover this and your journey into self will be much more peaceful. Usually what you think you want turns out to be less valuable than it was originally thought to be. This is because what is behind something sought is your very own self.

Lastly, in the future you will know si-lence. In that silence you will discov-er wonders. Practice silence daily.

ful and engage in playful behavior is important. It is important to keep in balance and to access that which is wanting to come into your awareness. Your inner guidance has been there and often comes to you in a playful way. Notice and act in kind. As you learn to trust yourself and receive your inner guidance, the more you will live the life you are meant to have. There are break-throughs very close to you right now and the playfulness is the right element to open the door for that breakthroughs.

The future is going to require your con-tinued vigilance, inner guidance and trust, because you will be holding more and more of the strings.

CAPRICORN - 12/22 – 1/19I want you to examine your rules op-erating within you that allow you to decide who and in what circumstanc-es you allow yourself to be friendly. While there are some circumstances that are clearly either unsafe or inap-propriate to be friendly to strangers, most people miss many opportuni-ties to connect. When we connect in a friendly and heartfelt way, we nurture our soul and we nurture the soul of the other. If there is any re-luctance to be friendly when it is safe and appropriate, then there is prob-ably some belief system interfering. Or, you may be moving so fast with all that is going on in your life that you are oblivious to your surround-ings. In this case, slowing down to smell the roses is prescribed. Re-member we are here to integrate into a grand balance. We are here to inte-grate all aspects of our life. Integra-tion means balancing at the deepest level. If in the depth of your heart of hearts there is only love, then how can you miss an opportunity to express that love?

As you wake up to what is and to what is possible with what is, you awaken more and more to the source that you are. Quite a proposition and quite a journey. One caution though: be kind and easy with yourself. Be kind and easy when you discover
