OverviewMy magazine is aimed at 16 – 25 year olds who enjoy listening to alternative music. This is not the only definitive element of my audience though, as the people who make up this niche group may also have many other interests in common. These interests may relate to the mood-board I previously created, some of the things I listed on their would be the readers buying habits, fashion style and film interest. All of these elements help to bring together a view of the kind of people who would be willing to buy my magazine.
My Moodboard
The next few slides are comprised of people who help to make up my target audience…
Lorrain As Lorrain is aged 17 she fits into the
required age category for my target audience
As well as this, Lorrain listens to alternative bands like ‘The Kooks’, ‘Two Door Cinema Club’, ‘Kodaline’ and ‘Mumford and Sons’
Lorrains lifestyle is quite quiet – she doesn’t attend gigs and concerts but enjoys spending time with her friends, cooking and reading
My magazine would specifically appeal to Lorrain as it gives recommendations of new bands/albums that she would not be able to access anywhere else
My magazine would also suit Lorrain as she is a keen ‘Instagrammer’ and the monthly Instagram competitions held with each edition would definitely appeal to her so that she can show off her photography skills to the rest of the magazine readers
Matthew Matthew is 23 meaning that he
suits my target audience age range perfectly
As a full time worker he has little time to himself, but when he does have some spare time his hobbies include baking, watching TV, reading and playing games
My magazine would suit Matthew as he enjoys listening to alternative artists like ‘Hozier’, ‘Haim’ and ‘Lorde’
This magazine would be useful for Matthew as he enjoys attending festivals, and Vinyl include recommendations for the best festivals with top alternative artists and bands
As he has a short commute to work every morning, this magazine would be perfect for him as he could read it on the go – this would be more convenient than using a website as he could easily slip the magazine into his bag
Jess Jess is also 17 She enjoys listening to ‘Bombay
Bicycle Club’, ‘Catfish and The Bottlemen’, ‘Peace’ and ‘The Kooks’, these are all examples of indie/alternative bands
Her taste in music is one reason why this magazine would appeal to her as it offers music recommendations and album reviews of her favourite bands
Another reason why Jess would enjoy this magazine is because she is a keen shopper. Her interest in fashion would also make her a target audience for my magazine as ‘Vinyl’ also looks at changing trends in fashions and occasionally gives away offers to popular shops which Jess buys her clothes for college from, ie. Urban Outfitters and Asos
Jess is also a keen collector of CDs and vinyls, meaning that the free monthly give away of a vinyl would help her to increase her collection
Jacob Jacob is 16 and helps to represent
the youngest part of my target audience
As a student, he often has spare time to enjoy listening to artists like ‘The Show Ponies’ (an alternative band) whilst also playing games and watching TV.
This means that Jacob would read ‘Vinyl’ as he would appreciate and enjoy reading reviews on his favourite bands and artists
The magazine would also appeal to Jacob as it occasionally features reviews on popular TV shows and films
Jacob would rather receive recommendations from a paper copy of a magazine as he can take it into school with him to read on the bus – this is much more effective than using your mobile as it can easily be rolled up and is less damage prone than a phone
Laura Laura is 25, she is almost 26 and so
is almost out of my target age range
She is a keen festival goer and so will benefit from the festival and gig review section in the magazine, as she can use it to decide on the next festival she wishes to attend
As well as this, Laura enjoys shopping – she will buy her clothes from Asos and so, like Jess, will benefit from the offers which are occasionally available with the magazine
Laura also enjoys to watch films in her spare time, but as she does not watch the TV very often, will rely on a magazine or newspaper to inform her of new films and TV shows
This magazine would also be convenient for her to read on her half hour long train journey into work every morning too
